For those that do time payments
« on: October 21, 2013, 08:28:24 AM »
I'm sure some of you guys know this and have known it for a while. It's new to me since I hadn't really done many time payments till this last year or so. Apparently though with Paypal if you're doing time payments and even if the multiple payments are within the 45 day window you're not covered for the full amount. It makes sense now that they explained it to me, and I kinda feel silly not just realizing that before. Anyway though

I've not done time payments but this is good to know in case I ever do.  What exactly are you covered for in this instance?

Only like one of the payments.

I received an item (not pony) earlier this month I did short time payments on. I had three separate payments in my Paypal. The item arrived damaged and the seller is ignoring me. My options were to send it back for the amount of my last payment or just keep it. If you do time payments you void your buyer protection at least on the full funds apparently.

Can't you just file item not as described on all three (or however many are still within the time frame)?

They wouldn't let me when I called. I'm assuming no.

Yup, I've heard that as well. When I did layaway on a doll I was warned that only one of the payments would be claimable if something happened.

Yep that seems to be the case. I just hadn't thought about it. I'm happy tht the person that will be doing repairs for me is being so kind. She isn't charging me a ton and Paypal was nice in that they gave me the amount I needed. I know they are a business and I guess can "afford it", but I honestly just wanted the seller to do it. Had insurance on the package there is no reason why she shouldn't. Maybe she did who knows, won't answer my emails.

Something else that everyone should be aware of: if you purchase something privately, you are not covered in case of an item not as described case. I ran into this problem, and was told by ebay that because the buyer could not prove the condition of the item at time of purchase, the claim was not valid.
