Customs / Re: Making Pony Molds?
« on: April 10, 2014, 07:05:17 PM »

I actually JUST tried JUST this-  I tried making molds of the "color me pony" mane and tail for the Luna pony-  so that she could have badass clear mane and tail!  I followed the instructions SO CAREFULLY for making a lego mold-  but despite spraying liberally with "mold spray" - the two halves stuck and are now permanent. :(  My artsy friend said that she used to pour wax between the two halves.  Whatever- I've given up.  But I know SOME people have managed a clear mane and tail- check out THIS Luna! http://groovebird.deviantart.com/art/Princess-Luna-373211578
I love that artist! He also does the one that has a light up horn. Yeah, I can see lego molds being hard to work with silicone... I think it will be fun to play with once I have the financial ability.

HECK YES. You can even put little LEDs in them as the epoxy solidifies (Or just make them hollow, whichever) and hide a switch in the body of the pony. I got the idea from a sculptor that made Luna glow in the dark. It was gorgeous. I wanted one. Then I decided I'd just make on myself someday~

Even though it's expensive and difficult, I've considered making pony mane/tail molds (mostly for Celestia and Luna). But I think I'd only make them for myself... I'm more interested in making molds for replacement parts for the older gen ponies. (like the charms that go missing and the three dimensional cutie marks that fall off).

But then I would make my own mermaid tail if I had the money, so I obviously don't care about difficulty.

Anyway: If you have the money, time and patience and are only doing it for your benefit (like, not selling them) it sound like tons of fun!

Pony Corral / Re: What kind of collector are you?
« on: April 10, 2014, 11:33:04 AM »
I'm sort of a weird collector. First, if I decide to collect something, I decide to collect ALL of that thing. It's obnoxious to my family and means I never have enough storage XD

I will accept any condition, because I can do anything with that condition. Somewhere in my house is a headless g3 Tropical Surprise I was going to turn into a pony I called "sleeping sickness" until I lost her head. I have a suspicion I lost it to my ex-husband in the divorce. Anyway, so I'm planning on turning her into a centaur. So, if I can't repair it, I can at least make it awesome some other way.

I almost want two of each thing, so I can have one that stays in box and one that I can display better. If I can't get two of each thing and I have one in-box, it will stay in box.

Basically, I'm the most expensive collector.

Honestly, the easiest way to get into the animation industry is with the much much much muuuuch smaller groups. The groups that animate tiny one shots or ads or stuff for websites.
Or, if you're okay working in 3-d animation, gaming animation is more prevalent in the US. I think there's like five in my state, probably because we're rather lax in the way of unions.
Buuut first you need a good school. And in that good school you need to intern for like four years. Most are non-paying and if they do pay it's very little.

And this is why even though I have a degree in animation, I haven't worked one animation job XD

Pony Corral / Re: I want to fix all the g1s!

I happened upon a really well documented ebay pony, and I can totally do it! They're attached by eyeglass screws, so I can repair them with the right plastics. There's a mold-able quick plastic I know that would work awesomely for this.
Thank you all for the links! I can't wait to repair some ponies! Now I just need money, lol.
Thankfully my disability hearing is soonish (June) So I can start on my various dreams. My "my little pony museum" can have a repair shop in the back, along with an area for conventions.
Until then I'll read and learn and continue mooching off of my parents.

Very pretty works of art, Luna looks so dreamy and lovely, and I'm a big fan of sculptures. Yours has a great composition, I like the ponies' poses a lot! I'd love to see more when you have the chance to post them. :)
Thank you! I actually have a lot of sculptures, I just don't post them on sites outside DA because I don't want to let people believe the characters are mine. Here's some of them though!http://mistylake.deviantart.com/gallery/37096308

Pony Corral / I want to fix all the g1s!
« on: April 09, 2014, 01:51:56 PM »
I keep running into Secret surprises and all of the winged ones that are missing saddles and wings...
I keep wanting to find a Secret surprise with saddle, carefully remove it and make a mold. And copy the wings of the winged ones and print them out on transparencies so that I can give them their wings back.
Anybody else feel bad for the little ones missing parts of themselves?

Maybe someday when I have money I'll start repairing some little ponies.

Introductions / Hello!
« on: April 07, 2014, 09:07:56 AM »
Hello everyone! You can call me Karma or Kara, I've randomly gotten it in my mind that I need to make a My Little Pony museum. I have a disorder called EDS that's made me disabled, but the bright side is that gives me loads of time to surf looking for ponies.
I'm an artist, I write, paint, sew, make jewelry, sculpt, wood carve... Basically if it's a craft/hobby I want to learn it, if I haven't already.
My other really odd dreams are to care for animals that can't be released to the wild, be a mermaid, and foster/adopt children.
