I'm working my way through two graphic novels: the first volume of NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind and then The Last Unicorn.  I'm also reading At the Back of the North Wind (love old children's books with lovely Golden Era illustrations).

I love it!  I lived in Japan when the anime was released and watched it every week.  I bought binders and collected all the trading cards, bought Nakayoshi every month (yay furoku!) and sent away for two cute CCS bags,  bought all the manga, all three art books, the Kodansha biligual comics volumes 1-6, a Sakura doll and a Syaoran doll, a "life size" Sakura poster, another costume for the Sakura doll, and the Clow cards.  I still have the art books and the shitajiki that came with the first one I think, the bilingual manga, the Clow cards, the bookmarks that came with the original Japanese manga, the art books and a few random trading cards.  I hope to buy the new collected volumes 7-12 in English soon and maybe the anime series eventually too although it's so difficult to capture the intricate beauty of CLAMP art in animation I think.  I have a few of the songs too because they are cute!

Off Topic / Re: Show off your Sailor Moon merchandise! (COLLECTION UPDATED)

Oh, sorrow, more reminders of stuff I used to collect and also of how old I am.

Sailor Moon came to the USA when I was a freshman in college.  I joined the fan club (still have the certificate) and got pens, a notepad, window decals (which died on my dorm window) and some stickers (the art for the club's goods wasn't from the manga or the anime - I don't know who did it but it didn't look good).  I collected all the cards from the Toys R Us machines.  I bought all the frankly weird looking inner senshi dolls and the crescent moon wand, the Cosmic Crescent Jewel Box, the first season transformation brooch (NA version), the totally out-there Moon Cycle (I did wait until it was on clearance because where did it come from?).  I got all the original Japanese manga and the third art book from Japan.  I bought the two children's books "Meet Sailor Moon" and "Friends and Foes" and I bought both NA soundtrack CDs.  A dear Japanese friend also bought me this lovely tiny tin with beautiful Sailor Moon bandages in it.  I had a birthday party with the officially licensed piƱata, the invitations, the plates and napkins and my grandma even got a crescent moon wand put on my cake for me (I was turning 19... I'm having a Pony party this year).  Of course I also had some bootlegs (cards, stickers and posters) which I didn't know at the time.

Then I moved to Japan (yes perhaps the two were somewhat related ).  I bought Sailormoon furikake, won giant trading cards and double sticker trading cards and mini trading cards, got all the inner senshi dolls which looked adorable, an Eternal SM water glass, two or three sets of boxed chopsticks, a plastic handled cup, a karuta game, two puzzles, all the manga all over again for much less, the Cosmic Heart Compact, the Sailor Moon Crisis Compact, the Eternal Sailor Moon Transformation Brooch, art books 1, 2, 4 and 5, all the other manga published by Takeuchi Naoko, two sets of stationery, lined paper for binders, a binder, clear file folders, post it pads, an inflatable toy, some UFO catcher dolls,  telephone cards, several shitajiki, a stamp... I think that's about it.

Stop me if you've heard this before, I sold it all back in the early 2000s when no one cared and no one paid much. Maybe and I do hope so, but it's a long shot, I stored some stuff at my sister's but as of now I currently have in my possession the crescent moon wand, one shitajiki, the karuta game, the tin with the bandages and the art books (which are stunning).  I also think somewhere that I have one lone crescent moon wand that came with the NA dolls...

Introductions / Hello everyone!
« on: September 16, 2012, 02:50:07 PM »
I'm a 34 year old from Colorado (USA).  I pay the bills as an administrative assistant with the Water Quality Control Division so if you want to discus how totally amazing good tap water is, I'm your girl!

I'm happily married to a man who is planning my 35th birthday party next weekend and independently decided to make it Pony themed (so many party goods!).  He then decided there would be six activities based on the six main ponies in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (which he watches with me along with Jem and Ruby Gloom just as I watch Silver Surfer, The Avengers and Full Metal Alchemist with him).  Yesterday he was sharing with me the questions he has created for Twilight Sparkle's trivia game.  I didn't know the answer to about half of the questions!  I had to add some of my own to make it easier for our guests.  We also each brought a cat to the marriage.  (Mine is quite a bit like Rarity's Opal.)

I've been collecting since 1983 or maybe 1984.  I received Glory and my sister got Moondancer.  By the early 90s my sister and I had amassed a collection of around 120 ponies and 7 buildings.  When we moved at 14 years of age for me and 12 for her we gave most of them to the little girls in our neighborhood.  I know, it severely pains me to type that at this juncture in my life.  We kept our favorites and our firsts and some of the adorable goods (our favorite game was "mall" where we laid out all the goods and set up households) in the Lullaby Nursery.

Since then I bought two MLP key chains in Japan -- where I was living when the 80s returned; I then bought Silly Sunshine in a fit of nostalgia; and then my mom bought me a My Little Pony Magnetic Travel Play Set, a Pinkie Pie Play Doh stamp with pink "Doh" as well as an Easter Cheerilee from 2009 with the bunny ears because she used to always buy us Ponies for every occasion (she's getting nostalgic too).

That's where I was until I decided to watch MLP FIM since it showed up on Netflix.  Now my loving husband has sorted through boxes of blind bags with me in search of "cool ones," I own a Gen4 Rarity (I do still like the "original" pony toys more) and stickers and a coloring book and a Busy Book and then this party -- I'm full on eight years old again!  What fun!

I like all the pony goods I've seen save what I believe is called Gen 3.5 when they left behind the look I recognized for a Littlest Pet Shop look that just looked wrong to my elderly eye.  It took me a while to warm up to the Gen 4 ponies after that because they did look different although not so extreme but I love them now too.  What I'm getting at is that anything that has a MLP logo on it gets at least a cursory examination from me.

I still probably have the greatest love for the classics but I also have to sadly admit that poor Glory who I at some point decided needed rouge applied to the end of her horn as well as applied in lieu of her worn off star will never again look as lovely as Rarity.  So there's nostalgia for the old but appreciation for the un-child-loved pristine condition of the new too.  I guess that's what drives my collecting.

I think that's plenty about my collection although I could go on and on because so few people care to hear and if not shared here, where can it be shared?  :P
