Off Topic / Re: Have you had an encounter with a famous person?
« on: May 30, 2021, 09:50:08 PM »
I’ve met famous people at cons but only while asking for sketches from comic book artists and signatures from comic book authors (MLP mostly, PPG once). Oh, and Christy Marx who was sitting rather forlornly at a table with not much at it and happily signed a Jem picture and chatted with me about it for a while.

I hung out with or at least talked with a fair number of indies bands from the Osaka area and a few from Tokyo, including Daigo Naitō back when he was Daigo☆Stardust. He might not be very well known outside of Japan and the rest weren’t even well known inside Japan.  ^^;

I also had a best friend from high school who became a pretty well-known podcaster. Well known enough that he has sold books, gone on tour and branched out to other media. That’s really, really surreal. Last time I spoke with him he got me free tickets to his show but standing in line with fans to talk to a friend? Not the best feeling and there was barely any time to catch up...

If you want Honeybuzz and Diamond Rose to display in their packaging, I must warn you that these particular releases came with a mini DVD that blocks most of the pony while in the packaging. I can take pictures if you would like to see what I mean.

I have had the following four ponies in a bag to return to Target for... years. I keep thinking maybe someone would want them but not getting around to asking. Is there any interest here in mint-on-card Playful Ponies: Diamond Rose, Twinkleshine, Honeybuzz and/or mint-on-card Crystal Princess Celebration: Sunset Shimmer?

That looks amazing! And such a cheerful space to be in! May I ask after your rainbow light? I've wanted one for a while but haven't found one with good reviews.

Oh, this is amazing! I can't believe the skill this showcases and it looks so pretty! I'm in awe!

Pony Corral / Re: Who was the first pony you bought as an adult?

Silly Sunshine. I think I found her in a drug store. All my childhood ponies (and my sister's) were boxed up in my sister's basement. I was newly back stateside and when I saw my first G3 pony, they looked so much more like the ponies I remembered from my childhood that, on the spur of the moment, I bought her and popped her on a bookshelf.

My husband became obsessed with trying one (he failed to realize there was no coffee in it, despite me showing him a list of the ingredients) and we went to three Starbucks to find one that still had the "magical unicorn dust" available. He didn't like it very much, nor did I, although it wasn't awful and between us, we finished a tall. It is very pretty but very obviously full of dye.

If you want the experience yourself, get a vanilla milkshake, some mango syrup or purée (although it didn't really taste mango-y to me) and most vitally some sour Fun Dip or Pixie Sticks. Add the pink and blue powder to the milkshake, top with whipped cream if you like and sprinkle some more powder on top. Voilà!

So, I did give up on the second item. With a hope that this would protect other sellers and buyers from his tactics, I called eBay. They canceled the sale and returned my money which is not the outcome I wanted since I really, really wanted the collectible I won. Now, however, his listing of what appears to be the same item (which he put up before I started my request) is still up, still offering free shipping, still saying it isn't actually free unless the auction ends above $15 in the description. I am disappointed.

To catch my kind advice-givers up, the seller shipped one collectible to me saying no one had ever remarked on his invoicing for postage outside of eBay before and that I could send the $4 once I received the item. He didn't, however, send the first collectible I won and now he appears to have relisted it.

When I asked (through eBay's ask the seller) if due to his shipping one item and not the other, I still owed him $4 for the first item and $1 for the other or if due to being shipped separately I needed to pay $4 for both, he replied that he was totally confused and believed he shipped the first item to the wrong person and gave me his phone number to contact him.

This is getting stranger and stranger and despite the first item I won being something I have wanted in my collection for years, I think I'm going to have to give up on this. I reported the listing to eBay and started a request for the item he hasn't shipped to which he responded I needed to send a "PayPal transaction confirmation number for the shipping." At this point, I don't even know how much he wants!

Thanks for your advice everyone. I will try contacting the seller and seeing if I can get re-invoiced through eBay so we are both covered. I don't want to not give him a chance to fix the mistake before taking it up with eBay. Oh and LadyMoondancer, thanks for the information, I didn't know that about buying on my phone. I am pretty sure I bought both items on my computer but I'll be keeping an eye out from now on!

I won two auctions from a seller who advertises "Free Shipping" on their auctions. However, in the description it actually reads: "FREE SHIPPING IS FOR ANY ITEM SOLD FOR OVER $15 OR ANY GROUP OF ITEMS THAT TOTALS $100 OR MORE THAT ARE SHIPPED TO A UNITED STATES ADDRESS. YOU MUST LET US KNOW THE ITEMS THAT YOU ARE PURCHASING FOR THE CUMMULATIVE FREE SHIPPING OFFER. otherwise, the shipping IN THE UNITED STATES is a flat fee of $4 for the first item and $1 for each additional item. International shipping is flat fee of $10 per item."

Okay, that's weird, right? I've had people offer free or reduced shipping if you purchase a certain amount or if you buy so many items but the listings themselves, individually, have the shipping costs included. That way if you win auctions you ask for a combined invoice and then pay the reduced or free shipping. Easy peasy. Now I've paid for two auctions and just now received an email (in my spam folder) saying I owe $4 shipping (nothing about the auction I won ten days ago).

This feels off to me. He just told me "You have a $4 shipping charge.  Please pay by PayPal" If I just send him money through PayPal, unconnected to an auction, I'm not protected at all, am I? I don't know if he sent a similar email about the last auction and it got lost in my spam folder too. So now I have two auctions that ebay and Paypal say I paid for quickly and completely but which may never be shipped because the seller is telling me I need to pay shipping. What are my options at this point?

Maybe this has been mentioned before but I just got Volume 4 of the IDW Friends Forever trade paperback for Christmas and Rarity is wearing the Great Skates outfit from G1 on the cover! Flashbacks to dressing my Glory in that outfit. I think my sister still has it because we loved that pony wear. My guess is artist Amy Mebberson liked it too. :)

Here's a link to the cover: https://www.idwpublishing.com/product/my-little-pony-friends-forever-vol-4/
