Would like opinions for FIM inspired hair bow
« on: June 14, 2012, 06:29:33 PM »
I love crochet and I've gotten into crocheting hair accessories; headbands, bows, and bobby pins. My boyfriend thinks I need to make some hair bows based on the mane 6. I'm really into that idea and am already buying up the yarn colors I need and designing the bows in my head.

What I would like from you all is your thoughts on the type of bow that could represent Rainbow Dash. She of course isn't as "girly" as the others and really isn't inclined to be a ribbon wearer herself. So how should I make a so-called "girly" accessory inspired by her?

I won't be using any images of the ponies, and debating on including symbols. These hair bows will only reflect the colors and style of each pony.
Here are examples of hair bows i've made previously

The pink one says Fluttershy to me, it would suit her with the curls!

For Rainbow Dash, I think the one on the end best suits her. I would not do the lace though, instead I would think about how to incorporate a rainbow or lightning bolt into it :)
Man who wear lampshade on head is bright!

Maybe for Rainbow Dash you could do a prize-ribbon styled hairpin? Like, crotchet a round medallion sort of thing like the flower on that green bow, and then trail down blue ribbon ends coming from beneath it?

Of course, that's wouldn't really be a bow if it had to be pinned in.

Oh wow! I so want that! :D The one in the middle with lace is very pretty. For Rainbow Dash, maybe a different type of bow that resembled a medal? Like, make a loop-shaped bow, but add a little circle shape in the middle so it looks like a medal you could win in a competition?

Edit: LOL Nonnavlis, we think alike. XD This is the third time I've taken too long writing a reply and you've beaten me to the punch.

That was what I was going to suggest too! Or, didn't one of her outfits in the show have a laurel wreath headband? That might work.

I may have to do some episode re-watching, it might be fun trying to reproduce in crochet some of their actual accessories

I think for Rainbow Dash you could make it rainbow-ish with some lightning bolts (Similar to her cutie mark, of course.) scattered across it... Otherwise, your work seems really nice. Good luck with the rest! :B

sonic rainboom headband.... urr, that's not a bow. But she did wear a headband in the show, lol. (or I agree with little laurel clips)

Your bows are very darling.

I'm glad you all like my stuff. I was thinking traditional hairbow but now I also want to a laurel headband or maybe little laurel leave clips? or bobby pins? that one can attache wherever they please
