The Love Duck episode (technically "That's a Baby Show!") is truly immortal, thanks in no small part to its hilarious dialogue - the self-deprecatingly bizarre cold opening ("what is a cow doing in my room?") and the scene in the CD store are particular highlights.

Life's What You Make It by Talk Talk. Given their unusual trajectory of evolution from an early-80s new wave band (basically a hybrid of Duran Duran and Roxy Music with a splash of early-period OMD) to producers of sprawling ambient post-rock suites, I've recently undertaken a listen-through of their entire back catalogue, a feat I've also undertaken with several more well-known bands this summer (as of the time of writing, I've completed the Beatles, ABBA, Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Tangerine Dream (up to Le Parc, at least), the Bee Gees and the Electric Light Orchestra).

So several months ago I received these wondrous magnum opuses from an eBay seller: visitors can't see pics , please register or login(The title on the left translates to 'Harry Potter and the Filler of Big', or, technically, 'The Big Funnel' - yes, that's an illustrated Harry head crudely photoshopped onto live-action Daniel Radcliffe's body - while the title on the right translates to 'Harry Potter and the Waterproof Pearl', although entering it into Google Translate or Yandex merely yields the translation 'Harry Potter and Water Beads') Resultantly, I rapidly set to work, armed with Google Translate and Yandex's, uh, inconsistent photo-to-text Chinese script translator, and began to peel back the reality of these fabled knockoffs. Below are the opening pages and first chapter of "Filler of Big": visitors can't see pics , please register or loginPlot summary on the inside flap of the front cover. Note the similarities to the plot of Chamber of Secrets (save for Dudley, translated from his literal Chinese name 'Dali', hilariously dating a 'belly dancer', which I suspect derives from the author's misinterpretation of the series' emphasis on Dudley's obesity) - the 'prophecy of Bat Bug' is effectively the warning of Dobby (an elf with bug eyes and bat ears, hence the translated name) and the 'wooden stools' may be a facsimile of the Chinese for that book's 'petrification' (otherwise students being 'frozen' into immobile state, almost akin to static, deceased wood). visitors can't see pics , please register or loginYes, Richard Gere is Voldemort's reincarnation. 'Tis a plot point that Rowling could only dream of conceiving herself. Note also that Ron (or 'Ryan' as per Yandex's version) is described as the friend of 'Lee' - both algorithms frequently mistranslate Harry's name as this, possibly due to a misreading of his Chinese name, which I suspect is 'ha-li' (I guess 'li'='Lee' to the software) phonetically. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginSpeaks for itself. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginNote the further similarities to Chamber of Secrets - 'sad party' appears to be synonymous with the first chapter of the book proper, 'The Worst Birthday' (in addition to sounding like the name of a forgotten mid-2000s emo rock band). While not pictured here, the chapter headers appear to feature clipart swiped from a generic animal encyclopedia for some reason, presumably in a limp attempt to emulate the Mary Grandpre illustrations of the US editions. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginYou read that right - Dudley's 'coquettish' bellydancing girlfriend is named ROWLING. The author of the series is Dudley's bellydancing high school flame, you say? My mind cannot process the enormity (or sheer unadulterated wonder) of this revelation. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginAllegedly Dudley has dated multiple bellydancers prior, attributed by the book to a 'psychological process of youth'. A truly masterful character study, ain't it? Also note that Harry is now a 'teacher' (at sixteen?) at the Honiton Wizarding School, presumably in an attempt to cosmetically differentiate the plot from Chamber of Secrets, unless this is explained in some previous bootleg book I'm unaware of. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginHarry is apparently 'still a good girl'. Have the 2003 Glitter Celebration version - her pearlescent mint green colouration is remarkably appealing, a trait intriguingly shared by a number of other G3s (essentially the only generation to recurrently utilize this particular tint for reasons unknown).

I'm located in the UK, unfortunately (as noted in the OP post) but thanks for the Gaspode suggestion - I had already ordered numerous issues missing from the early MLP & Friends run by the time I created this thread, which aided immensely in reducing the number of remaining issues. Any users around here with any of the higher numbers I still need?

So the comic's distribution was becoming increasingly erratic by 1993? Given both the declining prevalence of G1 MLP in the UK at the time and the scarcity of the Tales issues (having witnessed only two or three copies of numerous issues for sale across nearly a decade of collecting myself - the final monthly MLP & Friends run from 1994 appears to be particularly scarce), this seems to be a likely explanation.
Your views on the relative dearth of comprehensive G1 comic resources and material online are also on-point - given that I have only nineteen issues left to complete both sets (11 from the MLP run and 8 from MLP & Friends, excepting a handful of seasonal specials), I've often contemplated compiling (at least) an organized websites displaying photos/scans of each issue alongside recurring characters and plot elements (both the ponies themselves and the immense recurring humanoid/fantastical secondary cast, some of which recur years following their initial appearances given the comic's surprising dedication to long-term continuity). Someday...

Greetings all from lockdown! Over the last few months, I have gradually taken inventory of my G1 comic collection (which, for pre-2014 users, you may recall as a longtime collecting aim/folly of mine) and found that only ten issues remain altogether to complete both the MLP and MLP&Friends sets collectively, which are as follows:
MLP ISSUES: 177, 199, 213, 214, 222
MLP & FRIENDS ISSUES: 26, 35, 36, 47, 49
Does anyone have any of these issues for sale/in duplicate form? Located in the UK - given that I'm aiming to finish the collection this year, any PMs or replies would be hugely appreciated.

As a sift through this site's archives probably reveals, I've been collecting the G1 comics (both UK Egmont runs) for several years now (I've basically lost count at this point, but I thiiiink I have around 32 remaining to complete both the MLP and MLP&Friends runs... ah, Baby Lickety cloning issue, why do you continue to evade me?), although my pursuit of this... lofty goal has led to some unexpected side acquisitions, most notably a pile of UK Activity Club merchandise I received in a lot a while back (including luminously illustrated wall friezes, drawstring bags, the 1987 calendar and the UK variant of the Adventures in Ponyland game complete with playing tokens for Mountain Boys Sunburst and Lightning). It's an overall rewarding collecting sidebar, although the interim between notable lots can elapse into months and the coveted set-completing issues which do emerge from the ether can fetch comical prices ($31 for MLP & Friends 26... surely you jest) before subsequently disappearing for the next two years or so. The magic wishing bananas, bizarre set origins ("JEWELS! JEWELS IN YOUR EYES!") and Majesty antics are well worth the price of admission though.
