I really want to see this!! I want to custom build shelves in my pony room, and make custome risers as well, and this thread would be great for help!

I hope someone comes along soon with some ideas...there is a great custom riser tutorial floating around as well - I think it was SailorEarth who posted it - its really clever.

Well, within the next week my dad is going to be building me some pony shelves. I will be putting pictures up in the brag forum if you wanna check in. I will finally be able to get all my G3s out of storage and display them in all their pony glory.

I really need to re-post on the new site, lol. The risers are sitting on shelves that I made from pine boards and brackets. They're really easy to set up and are adjustable. You just screw the rails to the wall (try to hit at least one stud) using a level to make sure they come out nice and even. After that you just pop the brackets in where you want them and place your boards on top. For short shelves just 2 brackets would be okay but if they're long like mine (60 inches) it's really best to have one bracket on each end and one in the middle to keep the shelf from bowing in from the weight. I got everything I needed for the shelves at Lowe's but any hardware store should have similar items. The mounting stuff is in the home organization section and the boards came from the lumber section. They do have pre-finished white planks in the shelving section but they're more expensive, unable to be cut to size and are made from particle board so they're super heavy. Lowe's will cut the lumber to size for free up to a certain number of cuts.

OMG...SailorEarth! Those shelves are awesome AND very inspiring! I think I may just do the same. Unfortunately, my vision of ponies in a glass display case with lights shining on each shelf is starting to seem impossibly expensive...

I have the same set-up as sailorearth... love having pony stuff on my walls. I covered the boards with wrapping paper (I don't know what kind of wood it is, it was cheap, and it was seeping some type of sap for awhile after I purchased...). :o)

SailorEarth, those are some really fantastic shelves! I'd love for the ones my dad is making me would be that Epic, but there is no room. I'll be happy with what I get, though. ^_^

I did the same as SailorEarth except I've used Conti-board (white plastic coated chip board, dirt cheap but sturdy) instead.
