BRING ON THE TOYS! #TTTMU3
Yaaaay! I hope they get some really good interviews!!!!!I only watched the girl toy episodes admittedly so I assumed they sort of followed the toys through the years, I'm pretty sure they did that with the Barbie Episode? or maybe they didn't
I doubt there will be a focus on Bronies since the modern ponies are not "the toys that made us"
Do you guys think they will handle it with respect? I worry there will be a lot of unnecessary focus on Bronies from a negative 'look at these cringey people' Stand point

>>> Im a little worried to but... poniiiies :D All will be fine I guess
edit : thinking.... who will they interview for their collection? o.o OMG, imagine it could be...you! Or you! ...wondering if they already picked someone.

Ugh, yeah I dunno. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this show and/or the editing process when speaking to toy designers who were working in the 80s. The first season, the He-Man episode actively made me mad because of all the "She-Ra is the death to He-Man" garbage.
Well, obviously it should be Summer Hayes. She did literally write the book :D
#tbt That time that #thetoysthatmadeus interviewed us and filmed at Summer's house. #icollectponies #tttmu #mylittlepony #mlp #80stoys #vintagetoys
Say hello to Summer Hayes! She’s the author of #PonyGuides and an avid MLP collector, herself!
I hope we get some crazy behind-the-scenes bits like with the He-Man one.
"We can't possibly use this tiger, see how out of scale it is?"
"Looks great, PUT A SADDLE ON IT."
One more of Summer posted on TTTMU Facebook page. So nice to know someone so passionate and knowledgeable about MLP and early MLP in particular has been interviewed.QuoteSay hello to Summer Hayes! She’s the author of #PonyGuides and an avid MLP collector, herself!

Meet Kirk Hindman! Known as the mad genius at Hasbro, he has been working on My Little Pony since Generation 1 in the 80’s! Still today, he lends his hand to some freelance work for MLP!
The extremely talented writer/animator, Lauren Faust! She is the creator of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Lauren also grew up a HUGE fan of My Little Pony!
I've watched almost all the Season 1 episodes by now and they are GREAT. <snip>
ALSO. Check out those prototypes... the ones with the marbled bodies. Gorgeous!
I spotted those marbles ponies too. Maybe they were going to be the celestial or something? They don’t look quite ‘right’, but I guess that’s why they’re prototypes.

When you see them up close they aren't really marbled but have a pattern of different items all over them(teapots, butterflies, hearts etc). There is a friend of Kirk Hindman who likes to tinker with toys to come up with new gimmicks for the ponies. These transfers placed over the ponies was one of his ideas that he'd tried out. :)
So in the photo with Bonnie Zacherle, who are the two other people?
Also, I found this picture on The Toys That Made Us's facebook as well:

Edit: Well, the picture didn't work but it was a shelf of G3 ponies. There's also one of a book shelf full of G1 ponies . . . and Chucky the evil doll! LOL.
yeah was gonna say Summer and I pretty sure KKV :-) that is just so cool they got an episode :-) yes I have really enjoyed watching that series

Apparently, the bunny prototypes up at the front are unreleased Moondreamer designs.
nah me and a few others like to hide our nirvana so no TV for us anons ;-) all good ...
kitkatvintage :-) total shout out hug to the amazing folks that create/organize/run the U.S.fair :-) so glad this morphed to an episode
Man, they had me up until the “Lauren Faust” interview news. Nope.
Did you see one of the comments on that Instagram post with Faust "MLP owes a lot to Faust" lololololol haha
I haven't seen evidence of it yet but I don't know that they have posted pictures from all their interviews or if there are still interviews to be done.
Did they do any interviews with G2 and G3 designers?
Just because there's an interview with Lauren Faust doesn't mean her interview won't be "about" G1. She had loads of G1 toys as a kid. I mean, it's likely to touch on G4, but could be along the lines of "playing with these great toys as a kid was why I was interested in being involved in a MLP show as an adult". She is literally pictured with a table full of G1 ponies.Did they do any interviews with G2 and G3 designers?
I am very interested in seeing if MLP's Forgotten Generation, G2, gets a mention!
The G2s were designed by recently acquired Kenner employees, and they did interview Kenner employees extensively for the Star Wars episode. So it's possible they would also interview them for the MLP segment?
Edit: I believe the designer pictured with the Moondreamers bunnies has molded ponies for G1, G3, and G4. He's truly left his mark on the brand!
*wiggles* So glad the show is embracing the original G1 so much. Of course they would have to, because without G1, there would be no G4 and Lauren Faust would have just have had to contend with "improving" some other CalArts animated show... ;) She is married to the creator of Powerpuff Girls, after all!
oohhh, those Moondreamer bunnies..

Didn't it used to be a rumor/story that the Power Puff Girls where named for MLP? Seems it might be true since Faust has said in a panel before that she owned Bubbles as a child.
The show just posted the following on Facebook!QuoteCALLING ALL COLLECTORS!

The ultra talented Andrea Hollis! She was one of the sculptors for the first generation of My Little Pony!
So is MLP featured on this show now or is it coming soon? I'm glad that Summer's on there though because she will give a proper opinion about classic MLP collectors. By proper you don't get someone who mainly collects G4 and believes anything before G4 is garbage and they give their false opinion about what G1's and G3's were all about.

Right...
I don't know whether she did or did not make the statements about G1 attributed to her, but she hasn't done anything to dispel them, thus I cannot respect her or consider her a genuine fan of G1. It has nothing even to do with G4, I'm fine about that being involved...but someone involved in FIM which also involved creating misapprehensions about G1? Has no place in a show about real MLP for me I'm afraid.

You have to keep in mind...before she was the series bible creator for FiM, Lauren Faust was just a nostalgic hungry vintage pony collector like the rest of us. Whether you agree with her methods, or disagree with them, deciding whether or not someone is a "true fan" or not in that way isn't helping either.
I have no issue with G4 ponies but for me FIM has damaged MLP and its possibilities of being reinvented or completely fresh and new in the future if rebooted. And that's kind of hard to forgive. I'm not going so far as to say Faust ruined MLP. But FIM - and hasbro's obsession with mane 6 - has.Did you see one of the comments on that Instagram post with Faust "MLP owes a lot to Faust" lololololol haha

I agree.
If someone played with ponies as a kid, and still cherishes those memories today-- they are a fan.
I need to speak up on Lauren's behalf.
I introduced her to Bonnie, and you can't fake the emotion she showed in that moment. That day she had a My Pretty Pony, with its box, and hoped I could help her get Bonnie to sign it. You can't fake how genuine she was about it. I handed her tissues during the Creators Panel when she told Bonnie how much My Little Pony meant to her.
2 years later at EQLA 2017, she had worked a long day, and had signed a lot of autographs and met a lot of fans, and at 10 PM she still wanted to go leave the convention venue to see my pony room instead of go home. She couldn't have faked the joy and enthusiasm for the collection as a whole and mostly for the rare G1s I have, and as it was just the 2 of us she had no reason to.
She's the real deal, guys.
A sculptor on the G1 My Little Pony toy line, Bill Culbertson played a huge part in expanding the toyline and creating some of the most unique My Little Ponies around!
I attended Kirk's panel at the Pony Fair. Wasn't Bill the one who designed the Dance 'n Prance and had the body mold they used to reverse engineer the 25th Anniversary Ponies? How exciting to have an interview with him!
All this. Will not be watching this thing.Did you see one of the comments on that Instagram post with Faust "MLP owes a lot to Faust" lololololol haha

To look at the quality of most girls’ cartoons -...- more expensive animated productions for girl audiences may look better, but the female characters have been so homogenized with old-fashioned “niceness” that they have no flaws and are unrelatable. They are so pretty, polite and perfect; there is no legitimate conflict and nothing exciting ever happens. In short, animated shows for little girls come across as boring. Stupid. Lame. She's not wrong. MLP G1 (I passed by G2 when I was younger) and MLP G3 really do fall into that category.
There are currently six people (including Summer) interviewed for the show that were heavily involved in the early generations to only the two g4 people. I really feel like refusing to watch the show because Lauren Faust is in it is throwing the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak.
Sweet Daes, I agree that it's not a good idea to start picking out individual people and claiming they aren't a fan of mlp just because they approach their expression of it differently. Though I do acknowledge that there are those people out there who are fans of the show only and not the brand as a whole. In fact, that's one of the ways I explain it to non-fans when I'm trying to explain why I don't like being labeled a brony.
I disagree with the vehemence with which some of my fellow collectors express their views. But I do want to explain why you sometimes see that reaction around here, at least from my point of view as a long time collector who grew up during G1.
So My Little Pony the toyline was like our very best childhood friend. It was the main point and the reason we all connected to the brand. The various cartoons for MLP was like that childhood friend's kid brother. The kind of kid brother that was quarky, often annoying, and certainly had it's faults. We like picking on it when it's just us.
But since FiM became popular on the internet, it's like we came upon our best friend's kid brother being beat up by a mob and our best friend taking hits because she's related. That's kind of what it's like when I'm out there on the web. Used to be that MLP was something we enjoyed in our own little corner. But now every time something old school is posted in a public forum there is a whole group of people who just feel the need to groan and make not pleasant comments about the thing I cherish from childhood. Even when it's something innocuous like MLP Facebook page just acknowledging that there was a history to MLP before FIM.
It tends to make us defensive, annoyed and angry, even those of us who like the show and g4.
In short, TTTMU is not going to be a good representation of the fandom as a whole, regardless of who they interview.

It's not going to be a representation of the fandom at all. This show is not about fandoms. It's about the toys and the toy industry. I read an interview by one of the creators and he stated that he didn't want to do a show that was about fandoms, there are already lots of those types of shows. He wanted to concentrate on the actual toys. I've watched all of the episodes and adult collectors/fandom are mentioned very minimally, if at all.
Curious, did any mlp members here enter their collection? I'd be very excited to see u & ur collection
They could learn a thing or two and some misconceptions could be corrected, which might help with some hate and attitudes.
I know that in the Hello Kitty show they used without permission parts of a video of a youtuber I watch, she said that they never contacted her to ask if they could use her video

The incredible artist, Khipra Nichols! He went from studying automobile design to designing some of the very first My Little Pony playsets!
If we go by previous episodes it'll be how the brand was established and end it with where it stands today. I can't see them emphasize on each generation equally within 45 minutes, realistically G2 will probably be tied to the decline in the US and G3 as the prequel to G4.
Former VP of Girl’s Toys at Hasbro, Maureen Souza was a HUGE part of getting the My Little Pony line onto shelves and sustaining popularity for so many years!
The incredibly lovely, Roseann Radosevich! She was one of the key designers for My Little Pony in the 80’s. Roseann also went on to become one of the lead designers for JEM and the Holograms!

*wiggling* cannot wait for this episode!
Yeah, the show is about toys . . . not fandoms and not animation.
When they talk about cartoons, it's to tie it into the toyline, i.e. "the He-Man cartoon really made sales take off" or "thanks to the cartoon, Prince Adam was introduced, even though the toy company had never intended He-Man to have an alter ego."
If you guys haven't seen the show yet, I highly recommend it. It's fascinating and, a lot of the time, really funny. ("If it's as big as a horse, PUT A SADDLE ON IT!" :P )
TTTMU3 has another VIA (Very Important Artist) in the #Season3 line-up! Any guesses as to who?
Interestingly, they are interviewing John de Lancie.

I have seen the Brony doc with his smug self, so I don't expect him to say anything positive about gen 1-3.

While a positive thing might not be said, I can't imagine the director would allow something negative to be said.

Ugh. Having this dude on doesn’t really help me want to see this thing.
You've probably heard this guy's voice a million times... Ben Patrick Johnson is one of the top trailer and promo voices in Hollywood! He's narrated trailers for films, such as, Trolls, Boss Baby, Mike and Dave, Peanuts Movie, Woman in Gold, Big Eyes, Book of Life, the Oscar-winning Philomena, and OF COURSE the #MyLittlePonyMovie!
Ehhhh I like John deLancie, especially from his time on Star Trek. :) I am sure the show is doing its best to come up with a well-rounded episode. I am sure the Star Wars fans had lots of negative things to say about their episode. "They mentioned the Holiday Special! AUGH"
They have to touch on all generations! I'm only a G1 collector, used to watch the G1 series as a kid, and am an occasional FiM watcher, but every corner of the fandom should get its due, even Bronies.

The Toys That Made Us is pretty good about letting people have their joy, but focusing more on the making-of industry stories.
Let's see if us European G2 buyers get as much exposure as Bronies then. We kept Hasbro's toyline alive when the US wasn't buying any.
Bronies already have a ton of documentaries about them. Made by themselves, so it's more like watching a propaganda vid
G2 and the shadow years of MLP are the least talked about aspects of the brand.

It was the Toys That Made Us post not Hasbro’s. Hasbro gets blamed for a lot but I don’t think this one’s their fault.
I'll say it again, I'm not even that big on G3s but if the episode does not give G3 proper credit then it's worthless.
They interviewed Michael Bay and his segments weren't used at all.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I definitely won't view it as 'worthless' if they thoroughly cover G1, regardless of what else they do or don't cover. :) The Transformers episode skipped a lot of generations and it was still great. Though personally I suspect G3 will be covered. They covered "The New He-Man" from the 90s, and that was the flash of an eye!
Incidentally, just because they interview people doesn't mean all of them will be in the show. They interviewed Michael Bay and his segments weren't used at all.
IMO there is no point in interviewing VAs like Tara Strong, etc. as they have nothing to do with either the toys or even the conception of the brand's media.

They have included voice actors in the series from other franchises like Peter Cullen who voices Optimus Prime.
