Has anyone removed the ridiculous scene on the side? It's a different texture to the usual paint, can it even BE removed? I'm hesitant to touch it myself before confirming it can be done, I don't want to ruin my Soarin.
-
I don't have those ponies, but I'm quite certain something can be done.
Use a cue-tip and try those substance on a very very small portion, on the border of the markings, to experiment without fully ruining it :
- Cleaning alcohol
- Acetone
- Acetone-free nail polish remover (I'm almost certain this one should work since it's good at removing pony symbols and eyes)
Does any of these works ? Use it ! And be careful with what you want to keep of the pony (eyes, symbols and all that). At last, rub the pony with a wet cloth and dry your pony and it should be good. ^^
Hope that helps, have a good day !
Rose.

I was wondering this, too! I'm sure they probably _can_ be acetoned off, but I'm not really one to mess with my ponies.. I'd love to see if anyone else has done it, though :)

Manda Panda on youtube removed it like she removed the other decals and there was a white layer underneath.

Really..... That is annoying, and thanks for sharing.
-
*blink blink at that weird whiteness on de-graffitied MLP* That would be very off-putting to customizers wouldn't it...
-
That white looks like it can still be removed... I think I have two of Big Mac so I can try tonight and see what I can do.
I find it interesting though that she used printer paper to do the symbol work

agree, it just looked like thicker paint. Some more acetone/np remover and elbow grease should do the trick, if my eyes aren't decieving me (looked like it started to come off in places?)
(and yes, indeed... I feel like painting it would be easier xD Also please any customizers out there please do not use nail polish ;_; it doesn't last well (gets sticky, flakes off), and can make plastic behave weird over time. off topic but just... please. don't use nailpolish D:
eta: no offense to mandapanda if you're on here, but like.. nail polish just isn't made to last.
/end of off topic nail polish rant)

Yeah that is what I'm seeing. It looks like it started to come off in places
I'm pretty sure Soran might not have that white splotch because he's a light color anyhow
Edit: Ok just tried to remove a bit of it... Basically acetone barely phased it.. I had to use my nail to scratch it off after using the acetone and well this is how it looks =/

I'm interrested too, as I really don't love those ugly design... unrealistic and sad because the ponies aren't existing with normal symbols
-
Ooh I know I've seen people do it successfully...
I think Pyrosdarknessanny on here may have?
-
I'd like to know the successful means of removing it, mainly because yeah I don't like that whole scene on the ponies

Without having hands on I can't really say, but by looking at it, I've removed some paint like that before. Possibly if he was lying on his side in a dish of acetone and soaked for 30 minutes or so, and then scraped with a flat metal object like the back edge of a knife, it would come off more readily.
-
I was thinking the acetone soak but I'm a bit worried about the plastic.. I actually think I did do a tiny bit of damage to the hoof because of the acetone.. I just cannot be sure..
-
Well I mean, hey, on the bright side, if you did this to Soarin you wouldn't be able to see it much, right?
Maybe? xD
(I really don't like the All About ponies overly much but I really do like Soarin, even the mural thing. It's just so blue.)
-
Glad someone posted that video because I tried using pure acetone without even a smudge! Darn you Hasbro lol.
-
Ive done a big mac. You do NEED to soak them to get that crap off but it leaves the plastic matte .
Use an old tooth brush to gently scrub the paint whilst it soaks in 100% acetone.

Good to know

What gets me is that after years of producing ponies with a symbol on one side (since G3!!)--presumably to save a tiny amount of paint--they suddenly SLATHER one side of the pony with this elaborate decal. Just. Just please, Hasbro, regular symbols on both sides.
(Although I am at least happy that Big Mac has his normal symbol on the other side. I am too lazy to remove the big decal so I just face him the other way.)
-
Aw man, this looks like so much effort. Goddammit, Hasbro!
-
I wonder if Hasbro even cares at this point, I really like some of the new molds, but these scenes bother me. I would rather have something like that on a coffee mug.
-
It's Shadowbolt Dash (and her hair glue) all over again! I was considering getting another one to play around with, but the effort hardly seems worth the gain...
-
Yeah and for some reason hasbro decided to give every boy pony a mohawk instead of normal hair. I dont know what I can do to make it lay flat :(

its quite easy all you need is a rubber or hair band , some sort of water dropper and freshly boiled water.
Use tne rubber bamd to hold the dry hair down , then drop the boiling water over the hair as it wets down it will lay flat. Leave to dry and walla

has anyone tried sandpaper?

has anyone tried sandpaper?
I did try, to my surprise...it did nothing to this stupid paint. All it did was rough up the plastic. Seems long acetone soak and scrub is the only way so far.
Which is such a shame...Starlight has my new favorite G4 pony pose. And of course it came with this situation.
-
Maybe if we used knives, we could whittle the paint off? Of course, then we would have bumpy whittle marks . . .

I actually did a little of that too with an exacto blade lol. No dice. So now one side looks like a small animal bit her leg from the sanding and there's little scratches from the blade. I gave up and scrubbed with acetone eventually and it got some off, but I didn't soak it like suggested here yet.
