Who remembers my mouldy Windy?
« on: December 29, 2012, 05:36:11 PM »
She'd got up to all sorts of adventures in a previous life.  What those adventures were, we'll never know.

Here's what she looked like before:

This is Windy now:

Doesn't she look great now?

And thanks again to Endocat for helping me with her!

:faint: OMG! What amazing work - I can hardly believe she is the same pony.

Did you need to sun fade her or was it all surface removable? And even her head/body mismatch is much less noticeable!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Can hardly believe it's the same pony. Congratulations on a job very well done!
I would like to know what all you did to clean her up.

I cleaned her with a magic eraser to get the bulk of the mould off, then Endocat scrubbed her with a toothbrush and toothpaste which got rid of even more of it.  Windy has been sitting in a sunny window for the past 4 months (hooray for living in the Southern Hemisphere!).  The sun killed all the remaining mould and faded it away.  The sun is also what fixed her head/body mismatch, I didn't even think it was something that could be fixed!  Her head and body are only a shade different now, I can barely notice it at all.

Holy Magikarp!  Super work, both of you (and the sun, too!). :cheer:  Now I really can't wait for summer again (well, for sunfading *and* for no more shovelling... owies... :snow:).

What did you end up doing with her? She looks great! I have a Glory who looks like that but worse. I was having some luck with hydrogen peroxide soaks, but it was going really slow and I ended up having to put the restore project on hold, and haven't gotten around to working on her more yet. Huge congrats on your Windy!

It's amazing what you can do to restore an old pony

I noticed that the tail was super frizzy, I've never had luck with getting friz to get so tame on ponies, is it even the same tail or did you rehair it?

It's the same tail, I fixed it up last night with a hair straightener, then left conditioner in it overnight and washed it out this morning. :)

And just in case anyone has any doubts about whether this is the same pony, this girl has a factory flaw of a small indent on the inside of her raised leg.  You can see it clearly in the 'before' photo where she is facing left.  Here's an 'after' photo which also shows the indent:
