Pony Corral / Re: Hasbro G4 Prototype Boards (pic heavy)
« on: July 30, 2012, 09:37:07 AM »
Thanks for these pictures, they're fascinating.

The thing that struck me was how cool that prototype castle in the first picture was. What they ended up with is just a facade, but that first castle looked like a proper playset.

I'd never heard of Alicorn before G4, it's a word that doesn't really *mean* anything to me (I hadn't heard that it meant the horn substance either).

I've mostly gone with Pegacorn, simply because in my little brain Unipeg sounds like something with one leg. I know that's not logical, but that's how my brain works. I think the technical term should be Winged Unicorn, really.

Interesting note- one of the sites that popped up when I googled "Alicorn" said there's a ruby at the base of the horn called a carbuncle. Now I'm SURE that is something else, and I would not want one stuck to my head! *pirate voice* "D'ar, all me power comes from carbuncles!"

Yeah, in the Narnia books Lewis writes about precious carbuncles and one of the characters even uses it as an endearment. Threw me completely. I genuinely thought it was sarcasm to start with!

Oh, I thought this would have been about whether the symbols themselves are ever mirrored from how they were displayed before, like having Rainbow Dash's lightning bolt zigzag curve right instead of left, that sort of thing.  Has anyone tried keeping track of whether ponies who have had symbols on both sides have identical symbols on both sides, or mirrored symbols which would make them symmetrical overall?  At least having to mirror them for one side would explain all those mistakes in musical notation in Friendship is Magic where notes have stems going up on the left side or down on the right side.

I have two Cheerilees, the single and the one from the CMC set. The symbols are both identical despite being on different sides, so one has a big flower with two little flowers closer to the tail, the other has the two little flowers closer to the head.

Pony Corral / Re: What ponies have been spotted in the UK?

Round here Toys R Us had the wave with Cherry Pie and Diamond Rose since at least June 9th (I know this because I bought them on my birthday!) and I've seen all the singles at some point except Blossomforth and Sugarcup, but I think that's because I missed them, not them not being around.

I'm afraid I don't really pay too much attention to the other lines, but I think we've had most things *somewhere* it's just the distribution is crappy.

The baby dragons are adorbs! I have the regular pink Dream Castle version, plus Firey and Flash; I have to admit I'd like the cartoon eyed verson just so he'd match better with the Princess dragons.

Gosh, I'm so conflicted! I love that Hasbro are trying something new, I like the molds and I think they're creative and fun looking... but drawing on toys is so wrong! I had 'look after your toys' drummed into me so hard as a kid that the idea of encouraging it doesn't compute at all.

It's not just me thinking with the collector part of my brain; my parents made a big deal about how if they were spending good money on toys I should jolly well take care of them and I don't think it's a bad lesson to learn. Bah, I feel like a grumpy old woman sometimes.

Pony Corral / Re: Can we talk about G1 ponies?
« on: July 24, 2012, 03:43:00 PM »
So many lovely pictures everyone. All these G1s just make me grin like an idiot (and also make me want to spend a fortune, so stop it :P )

Picture Disc ponies, in my mind these girls are the epitome of G1 ponies.

Pony Corral / Re: Question about Rainbow Curl ponies
« on: July 24, 2012, 03:33:13 PM »
My first Rainbow Curl pony I sat and separated her hair out, if took sooooo long, mostly because I could only stand doing it for bursts of a minute at a time (after which I turned into this guy  ot maybe this one  and could no longer tell colours apart!) Looks good when done, but I don't think I'll ever do it again...

Pony Corral / Re: Wait.. What? Rainbow Dash Plush!
« on: July 22, 2012, 08:53:07 AM »
Oh, these are adorable! Rainbow Dash particularly suits the fabric hair.

The other thread says they're about 5", so bigger than regular G4s but smaller than FS, right?

I hope they come out over here :)

I think the koala, pig and tortoise are my favourites and I like that AJ came with Winona, but what I really really want is Pinkie's Gummy. (And I kinda wish Twilight had come with Spike, though I know he's not actually her pet)

Question: How many people bought the luggage pony Mane Six wave just for the new pets?

Thanks so much for posting this, it's fantastic! Most hilariously bad pony art I've ever seen - I love that the credit goes to the whole company, as though the individual illustrators working there all refused to be named on this thing; "It wasn't me, it was him!", "No way, I was mixing the cocktails, it was her!"

I can't wait to find out what happens next... Will Sailaway ever sail away? Will the palm trees ever learn to dance? Are the Rainbow Ponies intersted in cannabalism or an orgy?!

Pony Corral / Re: Rainbows, Unipegs, and Fillies, Oh My!
« on: July 01, 2012, 06:38:29 AM »
I'm okay with there not being more unipegs in the range, and I'm on the fence about the fillies (I think that them not having cutie marks puts me off a bit at the moment) but more rainbow ponies would be lovely. Anything that means more colours in general gets a thumbs up from me!

Pony Corral / Re: Would like opinions for FIM inspired hair bow
« on: June 15, 2012, 06:53:10 AM »
Maybe for Rainbow Dash you could do a prize-ribbon styled hairpin? Like, crotchet a round medallion sort of thing like the flower on that green bow, and then trail down blue ribbon ends coming from beneath it?

Of course, that's wouldn't really be a bow if it had to be pinned in.

That was what I was going to suggest too! Or, didn't one of her outfits in the show have a laurel wreath headband? That might work.

Pony Corral / Re: Have MLP been featured on PBS' Antiques Roadshow?
« on: June 15, 2012, 06:49:26 AM »
They've definitely had things newer than 75 years old on the show before, but it's always very rare and/or unusual stuff, like a record signed by all four Beatles or the Aslan prop from the BBC Narnia series (that was so cool I literally squeed!). MLP is too mainstream and too common. Perhaps if someone had a large collection of MIB G1s they'd get featured...

I agree that showing ponies on the show would only raise the price in the secondhand market so I'm not too disappointed not to have them shown!

Pony Corral / Re: New release pony pic - Flower Wishes

I love the green hair, but I think I'm doomed to be disappointed about the number of pink ponies in the line. The glitter is a nice touch too.

Any word on whether the TRU Collectors Set will go worldwide or just the US?
