Woolcraft thread
« on: January 13, 2023, 10:05:03 AM »
Because I knit, & Black Curtains wants to start knitting, I made this thread (pun intended) so we can share our yarns about woolcraft. Crocheters also welcome here. I'm currently working on my first circular knit, which is also my first ribbing. It's going to be another tail-skirt for Bakana, so yaiy for that!!!
My Mascots (so far): Twisty Tail, G2 Trixiebelle, Starcatcher, Twilight Sparkle. All variants & pictures of these are appreciated. Piccies courtesy of Griffin, Blumiere, Littlebabyribbon, & Starscout

Oh, I don't have my supplies yet ^^;

The project I mentioned in the other thread was not a kitting project, sorry if it came off that way!

edit: I hate to have to put my mod hat on, but this thread would be better suited to Arts & Crafts. Especially if we're going to show off our projects :) I think any type of knitting, crochet, weaving, spinning etc. can go here too :)

Yes, that's fine :)

Have you ever bought raw wool and cleaned and dyed it yourself? That's something I've been thinking of doing. Raw wool is really cheap. I can't spin it into yarn but I was thinking of using it for my needle felting.

Nope. Don't like the feel of it (folks live on a croft & we've had sheep there so I know the feel of it). Big fan of acrylic yarns though

Ah, okay! I try to use all natural in my crafts using fiber. The yarn that was suggested to use as a beginner knitter is a wool/polyester, so it will be my first time using that type of yarn.

Hopefully, I will have money in my account this coming week so i can buy my supplies :)

Saw that xxx
My bog project is taking a while to do & I had to get a second ball as it will need to be longer. I work on it a little each day, just getting it done, because a couple of rounds is better than no rounds.
Meanwhile I have other needles & other projects, including small simple ones.

ooh woolcrafting! I do a ton of yarn/woolcrafting. (I even run a knitting podcast xD ) I knit, sometimes crochet, spin, design patterns...
I'm about to cast on for a cowl that I'll be pattern testing, for which I dyed the yarn.

BC - raw wool is great, but you want to look at what kind of use you want to get out of it. not all wool is suitable for crafting (and some are for some crafts, but not for others). You'll also want to clean it thoroughly before dying it. Dying is so much fun though!

Welcome Shaiyeh! A knitting podcast? Sounds fun!

Thanks for the tips about the wool :) I would look for needle felting wool. I know someone who write a book about cleaning and dying wool too :)

spinning is greatttt, I will always enable spinning if I can. a drop spindle takes up no more space than a paintbrush... ;) and if you've already got wool... xD Sorry! I just love spinning so much haha.

awhh thanks :lovey:
