Does her hair type not show up on Dollyhair under the color listings?

Surprising not but using this site https://sites.google.com/site/mlphaircolorguide/ (which I only realized I had bookmarked a few hours ago) I could find the exact hair colour I would need. Which turned out to be Sour Grapes.

I think for tinsel there are a couple of sites listed on the MLP Preservation Project page. Have you tried
Donna Bella Hair? I think there is a good variety of tinsel types on that site.

No, because this was the first time dealing with a pony that had tinsel in their hair. I have re-rooted and customized quite a few ponies but never a tinsel pony.
The site looks like it has what I'm looking for.

Thank you for your help!

Glad to help~
Make sure to post pictures when she's finished, I'd love to see how she comes out! ^^

Does anyone else have any advice for hair plugs? Or any restoration tips for that matter? I am a beginner and I am looking for pro tips on how to do the best job~

Well done! I would never have the guts to do something like that. Your girl looks so beautiful. :lovey: and I'm sure both you and her feel so much better, the difference in her before and after photos are definitely noticeable.

Thank you so much! I definitely think she looks so much better, especially next to my other ponies that are in much better condition.

And thanks ^^ She is a lovable doofus of a dog, and she loves to photobomb~

She's beautiful!!

Thank you! ^^

She looks so beautiful! I never thought how the flocking would make rehairing a So Soft kind of annoying. I wonder if there's some sort of tool you can use to get the hot glue inside the head without it smearing around too much? Some kind of cap for a glue gun? Perhaps if you were quick and precise about it you could use something long and thin to take the glue from the dispenser and smear it in a line along the inside?

Whatever you decide to go with, congrats on a beautiful restoration!

Thank you so much!
And yes, it was a glue gun. A cap would be a good idea; just so that I would be able to reach further inside the head to be able to reach the bases of the plugs. I'll have to look into it.
I am thinking maybe a Popsicle stick would be a good option for smearing the glue inside over the plugs, provided I move fast enough before the glue gets a chance to dry.

Thank you for the advice!

I wish you the best of luck in restoring her! I just finished my first a few days back, and it was a blast!

Pony Corral / Chelsea's Restorations- G1 Rescued Peachy *NEW 12/7*
« on: August 25, 2015, 10:32:10 AM »
Hi Guys!
I plan on completing a lot of restorations now that I am collecting MLPs, and instead of posting new threads to show my work each time I have decided to just make a general thread where I will post links to pics showing the restorations I have done, as a sort of archive. This way I can still ask advice for rehairs, customization, etc, and not clog the forums with my junk ^^

What I Have Done So Far
G1 Peachy
G1 So-Soft Paradise
G1 TE Bright Eyes (WIP)

G1 Peachy

Last month I was in a grubby flea market at home when I saw this absolutely filthy Peachy sitting in a bin with a bunch of other dirty toys. I bought her and took her home, where I washed her (intensely) and conditioned her dull hair. Interestingly she was missing her tail and only a few parts of her forelock and mane. The rest of her mane remained intact, which led me to wonder why her hair was cut in certain places and ignored in others. Anywho, I bought Tea Rose from Dollyhair and gave it a shot. I only used the Dollyhair to fill in the plugs and make a tail, so some of the newer hair is a bit brighter than the old. Here is what I got!

So-Soft Paradise *Summer 2015
So recently I completed my first restoration of an MLP doll. She's an 80's So Soft Paradise, and was in pretty lousy condition when I purchased her. Her coloration had dulled to a beige instead of her normal white, and someone had cut the top part of her mane and forelock off. The hair may have also been trimmed in other places, and it was pretty faded and formless. After much restyling of her hair, I decided I wanted to just try my luck at restoring her and so I did.

I then proceeded to place her in a hydrogen peroxide bath for about 3+ weeks. I also removed her hair. I barely lost any flocking, and this was the result! She isn't completely brilliant white, but is a lot less yellow than previously.
3

I ordered some Firebird from Dollyhair, and I used a curved sewing needle to rehair her. This is the final result.

Voila! Let me know what you guys think. I also need some advice; I wasn't really able to secure the new plugs in her mane all that well, and I was wondering, does anyone know a good way to do it? I tried hot glue but it started making a mess so now I figure as long as I am incredibly careful with her hair I will be able to avoid losing hair. In the future, however, I am hoping to avoid this and actually have some way of keeping the plugs from falling out. Please let me know if anyone has any tips!

Introductions / Re: Hello from MA

Thank you for the warm welcomes everyone ^^

Hello! I'm also in MA! Not sure where you are - but I'm north of Boston. I'm hoping for a NE meetup sometime.

That's awesome! I am just south of Boston~ An NE meetup would be great!

Welcome to the Arena! Wow what an amazing area to be studying - so fascinating! :) Are some of the G2s  you have your own childhood ponies?
Thank you! It's been a great experience so far, I am looking forward to a career centered around animals~

And yes! They are all in really good condition still, surprisingly. You could say I was a child whose toys were well loved, so I am shocked they aren't worn. I have a MM Ivy, MM Tipsy Tulip, Secret Surprise Petal Blossom, and a couple of others. I used to have a Sundance that I cherished, but I have no idea what happened to her..
I also have a ton of G3s, and a good chunk of early G4s, like Blossomforth and Snowcatcher.

Welcome to the Arena :)

G2's are awesome!!! Hopefully you will share some pics with us of your childhood collection.  So nice that you have them still.

I'm also an Otter nut!!! So totally jelly you get to work with animals :)

Thanks! I'll make sure to post their pics ^^
I lucked out enough that they haven't been damaged by wear or time.

And otters are adorable~

Hi there!
My name is Chelsea and I am a newbie collector/restorer of MLPs! As a child of the 90's, I grew up in the era of the G2, and because of this I have quite a few G2, G3, and G4 ponies . What I am currently beginning to search for are the first generation ponies from the 80s.

About Me: I am currently entering my senior year as a student of Zoology within my university. I am a bit of an animal nerd, and I have worked as a wildlife rehabilitation intern, zookeeper, and as a researcher for marine life off the Coast of Maine . I am also very interested in art, and I draw in my spare time.

I am also an avid Pilates freak, and I can be found doing yoga.

I am terrible at intros, I don't really think I forgot anything here! It's nice to meet you all!
