Off Topic / Windows 8?
« on: January 28, 2013, 11:13:52 AM »
Anyone here have Windows 8? I'm thinking of getting a new laptop, but I'm having a hard time finding one with Windows 7 (Which is what I have now and just finally getting used to). I've heard nothing but bad reviews of Windows 8. So I'm curious if its as bad as the reviews say?

What's your opinion of it?

Pony Corral / Re: MLP Binder? -OR- displaying paper goods?
« on: January 24, 2013, 10:04:22 AM »
I don't recall seeing any actual MLP Binders.. However I just bought a new binder to organize all my MLP checklists, It's one that has clear plastic sleeves on the outside. I plan on making my own MLP art to slip into the sleeves on the front and back of the binder.

I really like the idea of having a binder for MLP paper goods! I have a few pamphlets and various items in a folder. I absolutely Love the idea of getting those clear plastic photo/report sleeves and organizing them in a binder. :) Would make them easier to look at and much more protected!

I'm looking for simple checklists but ones that are as complete as possible with common variants, like long haired AJ and Bowtie for example

Pony Corral / All Gen Checklists?
« on: January 10, 2013, 08:39:05 AM »
I've been on a break from MLPs for awhile and so any ponies I found went right into a big storage bin, then three. Anyway I have several hundred loose ponies of all gens that need IDing and organizing. so I figured now would be a good time to redo and update all my checklists. (even bought a new purple binder for it) Problem is most of my book marked ponysites are no longer there or else the checklists haven't been updated in years.

I did a search on here for checklist and found a lot of post from people saying they were working on making complete checklist but no updates to indicate if they completed them or where they might have been made available for download.

So if the helpful ponies here could direct me to their favorite checklist, I would much appreciate it! :)

Pony Corral / Re: Are you a MIB collector or a deboxer?
« on: January 10, 2013, 03:09:11 AM »
MIB! If I buy it MIB it's Staying MIB! I figure there are plenty of loose ponies out there. 90% of my collection is loose, (but thats because I rarely buy ponies new.) I guess I can understand wanting to open and play with a new pony, but I resist by reminding myself that at some point I'll find a loose one for cheap and will be able to play with that one.

The only MIP pony items I open are the Blind Bags. ;)

Most craft stores sell clear vinyl plastic in different thicknesses on rolls, usually by the foot. I buy enough to cover the front of the shelf and use self sticking Velcro to attach the plastic to the shelf. After its been up for awhile any wrinkles pull out and you can't really see the plastic. (you can see it in the picture because of the camera flash)

On my main G1 shelf I even made a hinged door with the clear vinyl plastic over the door and weather stripping around the door where the self and door meet. Haven't had to dust that shelf in 3 years. the other ones with the plastic Velcroed on, I only dust yearly even though it usually doesn't need it.

super clever and sounds realy effective! Do you have any mold or moisture issues with that method? I'm guessing not :-)

So far I haven't had any problems with moisture, but that might be because I took the precaution of also putting the plastic between the shelf and the wall. Its fairly well sealed. As an added bonus everytime I open the G1 shelf to rearrange or add ponies it has the most wonderful G1 pony smell trapped in there. :)

Off Topic / Re: Who loves guinea pigs?

I love Guinea Pigs!!! I had a bunch of them when I was little. They are just the sweetest most affectionate little things. I love and miss the cute little noises they make. :) My favorite and very first piggy was Ginger, my parents surprised me with her on my 8th birthday. I loved her so much, she would alway squeak and jump around her cage for attention the second I got home from school. She knew several tricks as well. :) She'd come to her name, and stand on her hind legs for a treat. :)

My other piggies where: Sam, an all white short hair, Bambie a tan long haired. and my boys where RB a tricolored long haired, and his son, Roast Beef who had Abyssinian like fur.

I miss having guinea pigs and have wanted to get one for a long time now, I've even bought a nice big cage for one. but with 3 cats and a dog, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to give one enough attention.

I need magic powers so I can just flick my wand and make the dishes wash themselves. LOL

More seriously I need a treadmill, I'm trying to loose weight, but I just don't have time to take long walks. If I had a treadmill I could just hop on and exercise a bit in between the chaotic never ending running around day to day moments of my life.

So I need a treadmill,
I'd like a different vehicle,
And I'd love to own my own home (preferably out in the country)
These are the current needs in my life. Ask me tomorrow and they'll probably change. ;)

Everyones kitties are so adorable. :)

I Love big puffy cats! Maine Coons are too cool! Here's my Yuki. I got her from the animal shelter, so I don't know much about her. She's a three or four years old, I think, and she's been with us for about a year. They said she's a Siamese mix (there's definitely some in there!) but I think she looks like a Birman.

Aww, shes looks a lot like my Squeaker! :) He's a Siamese/ Maincoon mix.

His names Squeaker because he has such a squeaky little meow that he uses constantly. I don't think I've ever met a more talkative cat. LOL

« on: August 17, 2012, 05:54:39 PM »
It's so heartwarming to read all these stories of rescues! I try to get rescues when ever possible. I have several budgies that I adopted from the bird sanctuary. Most everyone wants the younger or hand tamed ones so the older and or fearful ones end up sitting there, so those are the ones I adopt. :) I have a huge cage for them so it doesn't matter that they are not tame enough to be let out. they still get lots of attention and new toys, they love listening to music. I love watching them and listening to their chirping so it doesn't matter to me that I can't hold them. I did have six of them but two of them have passed away from old age, which I new would happen when I adopted them but I wanted them to enjoy their remaining time in a home instead of alone in a cage at a shelter.

The top row is Andy (I miss him ) and Lily (who loves to dance) :), the three on the perch are Angel (he's very opinionated), Kiwi (the quiet shy one), and Sparky (the hyper one). Over in the corner, that was Dink (he was always making such funny noises, I miss him alot to).

Then there is my boy Benny, He's a golden retriever. I hadn't planned on getting a dog. However one day I was over at my one friends house and she had this golden retriever there. She was telling me he was her mothers dog, but that her mothers other dog kept attacking Benny, the last time he needed 8 stitches on his head. My friend couldn't keep him as she has 5 kids to take care of. So poor Benny was on his way to the shelter... Long story short, heres my dog Benny.

He is such a loving dog and so gentle! I take him visiting at a few of the local nursing homes. He was just made for therapy work. :)

This is Romeo and Julie. I've had them for 6 years. I got them as kittens, their brother and sister from the same litter. I was just going to adopt one cat as a surprise for my mom, but they where the last two left from a litter that was born at the shelter. They had been alone together for a couple of weeks and I just didn't have the heart to separate them or leave one of them there all alone.

And this is Squeaker. He was unplanned, as I just posted in another thread I went with a friend, who wanted to adopt a kitten, to this lady who fosters rescue cats. I just fell in love with this one little kitten who had been rescued along with a few others from an abandoned barn. The rescue lady had been working with him, but he was still scarred and liked to hide. I picked him up and he growled a bit, I petted him for awhile, he calmed down and after a few minutes he actually started purring in my arms... I just couldn't leave him, Especially after the lady told me I was to only one he had let hold him like that.  :) It took him forever to come around, He's still very shy and hides from anyone new. But he is just the sweetest guy.

I'm really hoping someone will want to host this. I've never hosted one, so wouldn't know how, not to mention being super busy so I probably wouldn't be the best host anyway.

I was thinking in addition to the actual bracelets the swap could include some of the strings used to make the bracelets. I know I've got a bunch of spare colors that I have duplicates of. :) Some patterns would be a good thing to include as well. Anyway just giving this a bump with some thoughts I had.   ;)

I miss sleeping on my stomach :( But I have sleep apnea and the mask makes it impossible to sleep on my stomach. I pretty much sleep how ever is comfortable at the time, I usually start on my back and then end up on one of my sides. I like to sleep with lots of pillows and my golden retriever by my feet.  :)
