Title: MLP 1985 Annual - Royalty and Mythology - PICS
Post by: gabumon on May 12, 2012, 04:49:38 PM
Maybe I'm late to a party... but I just got my hands on a 1985 Annual (in Lovely Condition from a sweet person here on the Arena) and it's a lot of fun!

For me the best part is "Moonstone's Midnight Adventure".  Moonstone and Starshine go an an advendture to make a new crown for the "queen" Majesty. They meet three "gods"/extraterrestrial ponies: Star Pegasus, Star Unicorn and Comet Crownmaker.  They are all male based on the story.

Do these three celestial ponies show up in any other stories?  Anyone heard of toys made of them?  additional art?

I think this little story is a goldmine of fun ideas!  Maybe they are Celestia's uncles??? :)  I may try my hand and drawing up some ideas of them.

Ponies go into space a surprising number of times in the annuals and comics! The man in the moon pops up in quite a few stories! But typically some of the unique characters are unique to their own individual stories. I cant remember this group of ponies you have mentioned more than the once though - but there were over 270 comics and 9 annuals not to mention a range of story books so its certainly possible I am just forgetting them!

Wow, those illustrations are lovely! :)
I'm gonna have to get my hands on some G1 annuals, they definitely had the most imaginative stories :3

I don't know why but all the G1 art is very pleasing on the eye. If I ever got a pony tattoo it'd be from G1 artwork :)

Wait what, the annuals are stories? I always assumed they were just yearly planners or something

That's so cute though! The art looks beautiful, and that star pegasus is so cool!

I think annuals "might" be a UK or Euro thing - correct me if I am wrong...

Annuals are like a compendium - they usually have a mixture of stories and puzzles - often the features in an annual have been published elsewhere previously or will be published elsewhere in the future [for example I always remember that Garfield annuals used to have a mix of strips I had seen before and new ones which later turned up in other book releases]

Honest to Celestia I just found that crown in my flower fairies box. Is it actual pony wear?

Ohhh! I have this annual! I remember reading this story when i got my annual off eBay and thought how pretty the artwork was! I have a few other annuals also, but I believe they are a UK/euro thing as Hathorcat said. I haven't seen any from the US.

Lol! Yes...the crown in the picture is almost identical to the crown which came with the Pony Royal pony wear.

What were the fairies doing with it :O Pinching it!
Must say I do quite like the idea of a sitting pose Majesty with her cape and crown and a braid in her mane...
