I thought about customizing this the moment I got it about a year ago but I wanted to give collectors a chance first. I’ve advertised it in many different places and never got any interest in it so I decided to go ahead and customize it.

I have seen a couple customs before but not been able to talk to the customizers so I’m going in blind. I thought I’d document the process in case anyone else wants to try it in the future.

I managed to carefully disassemble most of it but I’m stuck in this spot at the moment with the axle assembly. It looks like it should come off but moderate force hasn’t been successful and I’m terrified to break it so now I’m pondering.  I could technically paint it like this but it would be difficult to get all of the white in the little nooks and crannies and I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my work and I know even the tiniest white spot would bug me.

This is the connection spot here - the two tabs are holding it from sliding out. I’m wondering if I were to carefully heat it with a heat gun if that would make it flexible enough to get them out.

🤔

Then I’m wondering what I should use to paint. At the moment I’m thinking of using a spray primer meant for plastic and then using my airbrush over that and sealing with Mr Superclear.

Feel free to chime in with thoughts and suggestions! 😂

Forgot to mention that I’ll also be de-BBEing and customizing the baby Cuddles that comes with the baby buggy.

I’m a customizer rather than a collector so I thought I’d see if anyone might be interested in these. As far as I can tell by looking at My Little Wiki, they all have most of their accessories and they all seem in great condition to me.

I also have G3 Scootaloo with her helmet and scooter. The scooter works as far as noises but it doesn’t actually go anywhere.

Customs / Commission of a ponysona
« on: February 29, 2024, 01:04:22 PM »
Hi all!  I kind of got out of customizing for a few months but then got back into it with this commission. Her saddle and bridle were actually added to the commission after her FBR was completed so I ended up doing the sculpting in Cosclay on another pony in the same pose so I could sculpt, bake & paint without damaging the FBR. The ribbons are sculpted out of Premo polymer clay and it was a real challenge sculpting that small!!

The client loves how she turned out and I’m super happy with her!  I’ll put the reference image into a spoiler so you can see what she was supposed to look like and judge how close I got!

Customs / Two new custom girls - “Black Ice” and “Daisy”
« on: September 11, 2023, 05:50:50 PM »
Hi all! Finished two new girls yesterday.

First is “Black Ice” - the diva pose is one of my absolute favourites and I just love how this girl turned out! She got a black FBR with silver pearl highlights and I repainted her eyes in shades of blue and turquoise. I hand dyed her hair using black and turquoise Rit dye - half was dyed on the ends and half was dyed in the middle of the hank so that her hair alternates between being darker at the roots and darker at the ends. I also added some metallic white to lighten it up. Then I decorated her with turquoise and clear crystals.

Next is “Daisy”, my first G4 in a long time, a Lyra that was in pretty rough shape. I managed to get her cleaned up and rehaired her in Poison Ivy, Envy and Starlight. I redid her eyes using watercolor pencils and acrylic paints and decorated her with tiny white plastic flowers.

Normally I don’t use G4s but I’ve recently organized all my baits and realized that I have a lot of them so I’ve prepared a bunch and you can expect to see more!

Customs / Do buyers prefer alt rehairs or full customs?
« on: September 07, 2023, 07:02:14 AM »
Sorry for all the topics lately, I’ve just been doing a lot of thinking and reorganizing myself!

So I’m moving into working more on making this into a side income and I’m wondering about people’s experiences in selling rehairs vs full customs?  As I’ve been organizing my baits, I’m noticing quite a few with only minor flaws, especially among my G3s. I also have a lot of G4s and rehairing or just doing a rehair and symbol swap is a lot faster than doing a full custom with FBR.

What have other customizers experienced?  Is there a demand?  Should I pursue it?  Thanks in advance for any responses!

Customs / Ever tried doing pony eyes with watercolor pencils?
« on: September 06, 2023, 10:42:20 AM »
I love watching doll customizing and face up videos and I’ve wondered multiple times about using pastels and watercolor pencils to do ponies like many doll customizers do with dolls.

Does anyone do this or has anyone tried it?  I love the soft blended look that these doll customizers achieve and I’m planning to play around with it just to see.

Customs / Equestria girls customs?
« on: September 05, 2023, 06:48:50 PM »
Has anyone done any customs with the Equestria girls?  I have two of them that I got at a thrift store and I've been interested in trying a doll custom so I've been mulling over what I could do with them.

If anyone has made any I'd love to see them!

Customs / Lily of the Valley Birthday Swap pony for Griffin
« on: September 03, 2023, 12:24:42 PM »
First off I have to say that I had the absolute worst time coming up with a design!  I have no idea why, but I'd come up with an idea, start to implement it and then lose interest.  The same thing was happening with other ponies at the same time so I think it was a "me" problem rather than a theme issue!   :yikes:

Anyways, since Griffin's birthday is in May I finally came up with the idea of a green lily of the valley pony since Griffin said she liked green and lily of the valley is the birthflower for May.  Griffin also mentioned that she liked the asthetic of Red Velvet cake so I sculpted a little piece of red velvet cake with a tiny raspberry on top out of polymer clay for the pony to be holding and topped off the design with a "Happy Birthday" balloon sculpted from Ultralight clay and suspended by a thin wire.  Oh and she is rehaired in Poison Ivy, Envy and Starlight.

Here she is!

I had meant to curl her hair too but I forgot to do it before attaching the balloon and then I couldn't figure out how to do it without damaging the wire holding up the balloon!    >_<

Ah well, Griffin says she likes her so that's all that matters!   :thumb:

Customs / G1 March Birthflower pony rehair & restore
« on: August 28, 2023, 11:49:49 AM »
Hi all!  I’ve had this girl mostly done for the better part of 6 months, she just needed her eyes finished.  I finally got off my butt and finished her and I couldn’t be happier with her!

When I got her she had a severe haircut and quite a bit of scratching/wear to symbols and eyes, but her body was still remarkably white and unstained.  So I redid her symbols and eyes with metallic paints and rehaired her in metallic sky blue, metallic shimmer wild berry and metallic plum from the Doll Planet.  I also added a tiny Swarovski crystal in the March birthstone Aquamarine to the centre of her forehead.  :inlove:

What do you guys think?

Customs / How would you strip a paint job?
« on: August 27, 2023, 12:41:26 PM »
So I've been looking at some of my unfinished customs from about 14 years ago when I first started customizing  and I think I want to strip some of the paint jobs to start over, either because the paint job got damaged over the years or because it was just horribly awful to begin with!

I've been wondering the best way to remove the paint and I'm wondering what other customizers do.  I usually use a cotton ball or qtip soaked in acetone to remove small areas of paint but it seems like it would be a pain (not to mention messy!) to do that to an entire pony.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!   :thumb:

Pony Brag Arena / G1s on Facebook marketplace
« on: August 26, 2023, 08:50:23 AM »
Hi all!  I'm a customizer rather than a collector so I'm not in this forum often but I happened to find this group of ponies and accessories on Facebook Marketplace for a mere $10 so I had to snatch them up!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Everyone is in fairly good condition though the So Soft Sundance is quite stained and grimy.

As I said I'm not really a collector so I have no idea if any of these are rare or sought after but if anyone is interested in any of it please send me a pm!  Otherwise I'm thinking of trying to restore them and sell them on Ebay or some such.

Thanks for looking!   ^.^

Customs / How do you organize your baits?
« on: August 08, 2023, 06:47:57 AM »
I'm wondering how everyone else does this.  Right now I have my baits sorted by gen, but then they're just kind of stuffed into those reusable grocery bags so when I want a bait I end up pulling out the whole bag and dumping them all to figure out which bait I want.

I'm considering making an inventory of my baits in Excel, where I have a picture of each pose that I have and then how many of each pose that I have so I don't have to do that.    :wonder:

It would also be helpful when I see baits for sale and wonder if I currently have some of that pose.

Customs / Falina the frog fairy
« on: August 04, 2023, 10:16:54 AM »
This was my entry to a contest on another site with the theme of "Watery World".  While I didn't place at all in the contest I'm still super proud of my pony!

This is Falina, the frog fairy:

Falina is the guardian and caretaker of all the tiny froglets in the spring. She flits about from lily pad to lily pad keeping the eggs all herded together in clumps for safety, then when the tadpoles hatch she teaches them how to find food and hide from predators. She comforts the tadpoles through the scary process of metamorphosis, then encourages the little froglets to make their way off into the wide world.

She is for sale for $120 USD.

Customs / Glam G1 Nachtlicht (Nightlight) - pic heavy!
« on: February 17, 2023, 11:57:03 AM »
This girl has actually been 10 years in the making, believe it or not!  She got her original FBR in 2013 and waited until last November to get her dark points and hair.  Then I finished her up over the month of January.

She's for sale but I honestly will NOT be disappointed if she doesn't sell...I think she's my favorite custom that I've done!   :inlove:

Her FBR is a custom blended blue to try to match the original G1 Nachlicht, she has darker airbrushed points and her symbol was done with metallics and sparkle paint.  She has a silver necklace with Swarovski crystal beads and a tiny hidden sparkly star on her forehead.

What do you think of my interpretation of a glammed up Nightlight?  :D

Customs / Halloween swap pony for BlackCurtains
« on: November 03, 2022, 07:43:12 AM »
BlackCurtains got her swap pony yesterday so I can post it!

I had a hard time deciding what to do because I tend towards pretty, elegant designs rather than dark/horror so I tried to go something of a witch doctor/shaman route.  Not sure how well I succeeded but that was my inspiration!

The pony's tail is Cosclay over Apoxie Sculpt for strength in the structure, but then the cosclay makes the end of the tail bendy so that it won't break.  The skull helmet is also cosclay - no more broken horns!

The pony has an airbrushed FBR and then the tail got a couple of coats of FolkArt Flash Iridescent green/violet top coat to try to mimic the natural iridescence of a rainbow boa.

The pony was rerooted in spruce green/orange mini braids (yikes that was a challenge!) and got finishing touches of a dyed black cheesecloth robe, a belt of mother of pearl branches and tiger eye beads and a poof of black marabou feathers.

I could never decided while I was making the pony if it was a female or male so I've left that decision and the name up to BC!
