Pony Corral / Re: Unpopular Pony Opinions
« on: March 26, 2021, 02:50:59 AM »
What I miss is people being... allowed? to make up their OWN personalities for ponies. Like, it used to be that if you wanted to write a story where maybe one pony uses her cartoon personality, but another is more based on her backcard, or UK comic, or whatever, or just made up from wholecloth... no one would bat an eye. But nowadays, especially with G4/FiM, it's all "alternate universe" this and "headcanon" that, you know? I dunno if this makes sense, or if I'm wording it right, but I miss when it was just an understood thing, that everyone had their own idea/version of Ponyland.

A bit off-topic, maybe, but it's what the convo reminded me of.

YES. I have always loved inventing my own personalities and worlds for toys!
Honestly, my definitive canon for G1 isn't the cartoon, or the comics, or the backcards....it's the stories my girlfriend wrote about her ponies when she was little! If the media disagrees with Kitti's pony world, it must be wrong  We've had a lot of fun expanding on her childhood pony world to include the ponies from my collection, and of course our other toy collections past and present. To be honest, I think the freedom to invent is what playing is all about, whether you're a child or just a child at heart!
I hope there are kids out there now ignoring FiM and inventing their own pony worlds :)

For Sale - For Auction / Sold!
« on: March 21, 2021, 09:37:59 AM »
All Sold, thanks :)

I finally sorted out the chaotic pony accessory bag! So now I have a load of accessories that I want to get rid of! I can only ship within the UK (sorry!). But I'm also only charging post and packing! So come along, grab a bargain, and help me make some space in my cupboards!!
You can message/comment either here or Instagram.
I will obviously combine the postage if you buy more than one bundle.

There's a VHS tape that has uncut versions of both on it, as well as some other episodes. It's called "The Biggest Ever Video" and offers "3 hours of pure pony pleasure"! I don't know how expensive it's likely to be though.

shaz, I've never heard of anything like that before sounds wonderful tho. but would it do anything to the symbols/ hair? I'm just very inexperienced with handling the older ponies and I dont want to ruin anything

It isn't good for metallic Princess pony symbols or Magic Message ones, but I've never had any problems using it on other ponies. It's my go-to for most toy-cleaning tasks. I found out about it because my grandma (who was very into hygiene; we have a quite a few OCD sufferers in our family) used to swear by it for just about everything! It can make the pony's hair feel a little dry, but nothing that a wash and condition won't sort out. I like it because it's not as harsh and chemically as bleach or alcohol based products.

I don't know if you have these in your country, but there's this awesome cleaning product called Soda Crystals. Put your pony in hot water (you can use boiling water; it will make your pony temporarily very squishy but she should harden up once she's dry. Don't use boiling water on hard plastic though, I once accidentally warped some dolls' house furniture!). Wear rubber gloves and give the pony a bit of a scrub (don't get burnt). The dirt should just slide off! Rinse and repeat until pony is clean.

Seems you can get them on Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Dri-Pak-Soda-Crystals-1kg-2-2/dp/B002SPFIFW

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Kitty in my Pocket Comics (1990s)
« on: February 18, 2021, 02:47:05 AM »
Full of enthusiasm for one of my favourite childhood toylines, the 90s Kitty in my Pocket by MEG, I recently started an online archive of the comics that were available back in the day.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/190248308@N06/albums

I'm currently working with someone who has most of the comics and is sending pics to me bit by bit. However, I'm still on the lookout for issues 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20. If you happen to own those and could take photos of them, I would be very grateful!

I also want to know: did you have kitty comics as a child? And do you remember which kitty came free with which issue? I'm trying to compile a list, but it's pretty complicated (not least because some issues seem to have had several different kitties available). So some anecdotal evidence might help clear things up (or it could just complicate things further. Who knows?).

Finally, if anyone just wants to chat about Kitty in my Pocket, go ahead, I'm always pleased to find someone who shares my interest in these cute little kittens :) I know a bit about the other IMP lines as well (puppies, ponies etc), but it's the kitties that really do it for me :)

Pony Corral / Re: Favorite Pony Color?

Looking along my shelf of favourites, it seems I really like blue ponies: Wind Whistler, Bright Eyes, Tornado, Baby Tippytoes, Ribbon and baby (of course!), and Greek Baby Bluebell! The dark blue of deflocked Ribbon is especially gorgeous.

Pony Corral / Re: Am i crazy or did a purple bodies minty exist?

All I know is that Minty appeared in the UK My Little Pony Fact File with a purple body and white hair. Maybe someone made a custom based on the idea?

As a kid I was convinced my childhood Shady had glowing hair. It doesn't actually glow, but it's bright enough that it seems to have an aura around it. Surprise has the same colour, so it would make sense if the same phenomenon occurs. I think it's an optical illusion though. It shouldn't actually glow.

My girlfriend had the same conviction about Honeycomb, she remembers shutting herself in the bathroom with the light off to see if Honeycomb's hair glowed! She always thought it did, a little bit, but I think as you said it's an optical illusion.

Pony Corral / Re: Weird experiences with sellers.
« on: January 23, 2021, 01:26:57 AM »
Wow, reading this I realise how lucky I've been, I've dealt with some really nice sellers. It's usually the postal services that make things weird. A recent parcel from the US unexpectedly spent a week in Tokyo?! I think my new Kitty in my Pocket cats must have been sightseeing!

One thing that drives me mad is when I make an offer on eBay and....the seller just ignores me. Why set it to 'make an offer' if you don't want offers? And if I didn't offer enough, tell me! Make a counter offer! Reject the offer! Don't just ignore it! Work with me here, seller!

Oh and I did have a seller tell me they'd lost an item in their house and that maybe their kids had hidden it somewhere. I still suspect that they sold it elsewhere for more than I won it for.

Pony Corral / Re: Fakie G3....On Wheels!
« on: January 20, 2021, 01:39:57 AM »
Star (as I have decided to call her; not the most original name, I know) had an unexpectedly eventful day yesterday. I decided to brush her hair....whereupon it fell out in my hand  so now she's a restoration project, and she's been having a rummage in my box of hair to see what colour she'd like. I've also been shopping for wings!

And thanks to some Googling I found out what she is. Welcome to the amazing world of Dreamland of Lovely Pony! Where the art is a blatant G3 ripoff and ponies have wheels!
http://www.shonnbrotherswholesalers.co.uk/product/walking-pull-string-ponies/
They have Buddy L style horses too!

According to the small print, playing with this pony will improve my hand-eye coordination and encourage logical thinking :O so that's something to look forward to

Pony Corral / Fakie G3....On Wheels!
« on: January 18, 2021, 07:26:51 AM »
I found this cute little thing abandoned by the side of the road.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CKMPciSF_Pe/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
I actually thought at first glance that she might be genuine MLP merch - like that Sunny Daze with the Playdoh hair. But it looks like she's a fakie....on wheels! She has a little motor powering her back wheels, which we've managed to get (sort of) working, so she's been galloping about adorably. It looks like she once had wings too! Anyone seen a fakie like this before? I'd like to see a picture of how she looked with her wings!

Pony Corral / Re: One thing each generation does best?

G1: The lack of an overarching canon. G1 just feels so free, and you can basically imagine whatever world you want for your ponies. Even the official stuff doesn't agree on one version of Pony Land! I know you can imagine your own world for any ponies, but I just feel like it was more encouraged in G1: the lack of main characters (up until Tales), the variety of different ponies and gimmicks, different stories/comics/backcards/names in different countries, no rules about only unicorns having magic or whatever. G1 is just so open to interpretation and I like that a lot. It always makes me happy when people say something like "my childhood Applejack was a boy" or "I always called Wind Whistler Chris".

G2: The Playsets are just so lovely :lovey: I don't own any but I wish I did!

G3: I love how global G3 was! Countries that had never had ponies before got G3 (or in some cases, they had had ponies but not in a big way), and that means I can have fun collecting sticker books and storybooks in Croatian, Czech, Polish, Russian etc. I'm sure there's something pony-themed and Romanian out there waiting for me, that would make me so happy :) (combination of two things I love: Romanian history and ponies!). I also like the fabric clothes and accessories that some of the G3s had.

G3.5: The hair, of course! I got a G3.5 Sweetie Belle in an eBay bundle and the amazing quality of her hair just blew my mind!

G4: The wings. Also, mini ponies. The combination of awesome wings and tiny cute ponies has made mini :muffin: Pony and Daring Do two of my all-time favourite ponies. They're just the right size to take out and about for adventures.

G4.5: I don't actually own any of these yet, but they're okay. I like that some are brushable and some have moulded hair, because I like both those types :)
