'Raindrop' yellow background peg
« on: February 07, 2013, 06:57:11 PM »
So I made a custom of the yellow background peg that fans have dubbed Raindrop(s?) from the FiM show.  I just really wanted an aqua haired yellow pony to add to the little family I have going on.

She's my first try at making and using custom decals.  I learned a lot about my printer in this way   I printed and reprinted sooo many times before committing to what I used.
I used a Sunny Rays as bait, rehaired in Atomic Turquoise and given a fringe.
Next pony I think I'll try using decals over a FBR.  The worst part of making decals is waiting for the clear coat to dry.

Am I at the level where I can think about offering commissions?

I'm not really a great source of information for how to do decals, I just followed the directions on the paper and found some tips online.  Most of the work is creating the digital image and printing and reprinting trials before using the expensive decal paper.  And the patience it takes to wait between layers of sealer.

As to the commission part, I think you need to have the decals all nailed down and be able to do it time after time.  That said, love the decal and the color combo.

Do you know how these decals age? Will they stay looking like this or will they fade? One of my first ponies was made with a rub-on type decal and now all the black parts are brown, it has discolored the plastic of the pony, and is looking rather horrible. Just something to think about.

She shouldn't yellow, but I will keep an eye on her.  I used Testors Dullcote and Model Master Acrylic Super Gloss, and none of the googling I did says anything about them yellowing over time.  I did learn a lot about the magic of future floor polish though.

I don't think it's the sealer that is in question but the decals themself.
