Pony Corral / Re: Worst/Weirdest/Outrageous Ebay Auctions

Not pony related, but I found this by mistake a while back and just checked to see if it was still available. Someone is selling an (empty) diaper box for $100-00. There is another for $350-00. But never fear! This one does still contain 6 never-unfolded nappies. What a relief!

I haven't figured out how to post a screen shot, but a search on eBay for 'diaper box vintage' will bring them, and others, up  :)

Did anyone see this extremely flawed Mimic? I felt so sorry for her... ouch!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-MLP-G-1-Hasbro-My-Little-Pony-MIMIC-TWINKLE-EYE-TE-FLAWED-/123376218816?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l44720

That poor mimic! D: I cant believe they said " priced accordingly" after mentioning the giant hole in her neck. How on earth is $78 priced accordingly  -_-  i hope she finds a loving home somewhere

Someone gave me some cheap hair straighteners, I tried using them to de-frizz hair but the temperature just wasn't low enough or stable enough so I damaged some hair before I improved it overall. I think more modern straighteners are much better and can be used for de-frizzing nylon hair with a bit of knowhow.

Oh no! Sorry strawberrypony, at least she will get all fixed up and looking glam again: please post photos  :)

I do have a horror story actually: about two weeks back I decided to spend a relaxing afternoon straightening some frizzed pony hair. This is something I do fairly often and actually rather enjoy. But, while I was using the straightener, it just fritzed out and the thermostat died. So it suddenly and without and prior warning got super hot. My poor Lucky Pony (I collect them) now has a melted section in her mane. Can't say I improved her at all  :(

Here she is with a cunning new 'do' to hide What I Did:

However, there is a silver lining to this story of gloom: the pony who's hair I had been straightening before the poor (un)Lucky Pony was this one:

Scandinavian Truly. So It really could have been WAY worse

Oh noo!! It seems like hair straighteners are on the fritz lately! :O Definitely gatta be careful with them, Ive never had trouble with straighteners but I accidentally left some hair too close to a hot lamp once and the hair curled up and burned to a crisp  >_<

Thank goodness, NightGliderSA, that you didnt damage your Truly!  A close one indeed! YIKES! But your fakie looks so lovely still <3 She looks very happy with her curly hair, I wouldnt worry!  :3  And thank you very much! My fakie appreciates your condolences as well. I will definitely post pictures once shes gotten her new locks since you wanna see. :D Im afraid it will be a while tho, thats a whole other horror story haha I broke all of my rerooting needles, my rerooting tool wont hold a needle right, AND i cut my fingers to pieces because a particular pony had a horribly HARD head. I need to buy more needles and fix up the tool the best I can first XD

Pony Corral / Re: Ponies you regret buying?
« on: September 21, 2018, 01:20:51 AM »
I think the only real pony buying regret I have is the multiple g3s I got at the thrift store. First of all, the thrift store writes the prices on ink on the bottom of their hooves, second they're all a really dirty white that I've been trying to clean up but it won't work, third their hair is all weird and choppy and would rather separate into sections rather than actually stick together, lastly they aren't even worth much. I know it's not all about the money, but it makes me wonder what I'm going to do with them in the future when I'm most likely gonna have to sell them so I can move away.
I hope with g5 the g3s will be worth just a smidge more amount of money...The only real reason I buy every pony I see at the thrift shop (well...almost everypony) is because I know the kids in my town aren't...the kindest to toys and I don't want to see an okay pony turn into a bait pony. I guess that makes me kinda selfish in a way. I don't know.

The thrift store writes on the ponies with ink?! Oh my lord I would be furious  why would they think someone would want their pony written on? For heavens sake

And thats not selfish! I do the same thing with buying ponies sometimes to make sure they arent abused. Not that I would ever pass up any sort of pony, but especially with Fakies which i dont usually collect, i'll buy them to keep them from being thrown in the trash. All ponies deserve love and a safe home.

Ive never regretted buying a pony, I've felt bad about spending money.. Especially the 35th anniversary ones. I bought them all in one day along with several g4s. It was over $100 for just one visit to Target I felt so awful... I told myself I wasnt gonna do that again.

I have been disappointed tho, I bought a sweet heart sister pony for a friend last year and when I got her she had several hair plugs empty and her earring was broken off.  I still love her to death tho <3 it just really sucks when trying to do something special for someone and you get it and the person hadnt disclosed the full condition.

Pony Corral / What Are Your Restoration Horror Stories?
« on: September 21, 2018, 01:03:13 AM »
Im not sure if there is a post like this already please let me know if so. Ive encountered a few horrific experiences with restoration lately and I thought it would be a fun thread for us all to share our own pony horror stories!  ^.^

Just the day before yesterday I found a fakie that had been hiding in storage and needed a deep cleaning, and I thought I would rinse her off first before touching her much. Little did I know what would happen   the moment the slightest bit of water from the faucet touched her hair, every single strand all fell out at once and went down the drain so fast there was nothing I could do. Shes a poor bald pony now. It must not have been glued in properly or the glue rotted? The poor thing, It wasnt the best quality hair to begin with tho so at least she'll get brand new hair now! XD Sad to see her hair go tho, I remember brushing her hair as a little kid.

What kind of stories do you all have?

Pony Corral / Glitter Cutie Mark/Symbol Questions
« on: August 13, 2018, 11:15:58 PM »
Hi Everyone! So I've recently been pondering over glitter cutiemarks and I thought I would share my thoughts with you guys!

There is a pitiful g1 Surprise in my collection that is in need of serious work. I'll make separate topic about her condition in a later post, but I recently became in possession of another g1 Surprise and upon looking at them both, my Surprise thats in poor condition, though her symbol is the one thing that remained untouched and perfect.. I realized one side has perfect pink balloon strings, and the other is perfect blue strings? No scuffing, no scratches, no fading on either side. Does anyone else have a Surprise with blue strings? Its so weird, because the symbols look basically brand new. I had initially thought it was faded upon first glance but when I looked closer it looks like thats just the color its always been? Its too vibrant and evenly pigmented paint the strings dont look faded in the least and the purple balloons are almost flawless. Maybe it is faded but I dont understand how pink would turn blue with an entirely different undertone or how the blue strings look so pristine. I had a moment where x-files music played in my head like    shooketh

I also have nearly finished restoring a g1 Sunbeam that I found in the horrible circumstance of being at the trash dump with several other ponies headed for the landfill. I found them several years ago but am just now finishing  restorations on a few of them due to financial reasons. She was in the bag with a baby Lickety Split beddy-bye eye, A baby Yoyo, Lily the flutter pony with a small piece of her wings still attached and a Sundance. (They were not in the best condition I wont go into detail about the others unless someone is interested since this is about Sunbeams cutiemark  :P). Sunbeam was missing her tail, and quite dirty with barely any remnant of her cutie mark left. Ive heard its basically impossible to find a match to how the glitter cutie marks looked, I havent found anything exact either,  but the closest solution I've found is to paint down a metallic base color with some sort of acrylic paint that already has a good deal of shimmer in it, then find a very fine glitter to mix with a thin clear acrylic paint of some sort and put over the base color.  It wont be a solid glitter cover like the original but I find it really pretty to have a bit of shimmer from the base with evenly distributed extra fine glitter on top. Its an easier option than trying to find a way to make a dense glitter base. I thought maybe the idea would help someone out!  ^.^

Pony Corral / Re: Thrift rescue stories
« on: August 13, 2018, 10:25:36 PM »
I love reading all of these stories! <3 I always imagined my house as sort of a home for ponies who have lost their way and can all prance around together when im not watching and swap stories. My most recent haul were filled with mildew so I imagine they had a ton of swashbuckling fun playing pirates, mermaids, and other things in their owner's bathtub! My pony bride and Raincurl have short but tasteful haircuts so I imagine they had quite a stylish life getting hairstyles. My Bubbles has been so dirty and unable to be thoroughly cleaned of all the dirt she has, I imagine she loved playing in gardens. <3

I rescued a bag of ponies from the trash dump once that someone had thrown out, and I was luckily able to take them home with me and fix them up. I imagine they probably had been well loved and played with then crammed in an attic for years then thrown out by someone who didnt care, but at least now they have a good happy life with my little herd of ponies <3

Pony Corral / Re: Autumnal Ponies

There is Gusty of course! Unless you where only looking for G3?

OH, and there is Autumn Crisp!

Also, any of the birth flower ponies for the autumn months, whether G1 or G3.

Post Merge: August 11, 2018, 08:20:16 PM

Also, pies are something I think of when I think of the fall.  So maybe Boysenberry Pie?  Her colors are fall-ish.

Ahh! autumn crisp was my fave I never knew many people paid much attention to her im so glad you mentioned her! <3

hmm Could Pumpkin Cake count as an Autumnal pony even if she doesnt have her cutie mark yet?  Alphabittle reminds me of fall too since she has hot soup as her cutiemark/symbol. Maybe its just me but soup reminds me of fall  ^.^

Same, I got so excited for them to release the hippogriff and seapony queen, and the other seaponies released with the playset. I didnt know they were gonna be the playset at the time so i had been waiting to see them at the store in two packs at least. They were the first new ponies in FOREVER, then when I saw the playset I legit RAN over squealing and the box was MASSIVEE the biggest playset I have ever seen ( l legit have so many mlp castles theres no way I would ever find room for it even if seaponies are my fave, and tbh its not like i would play with it but still GORGEOUS) and I started freaking out so hard until... I saw the price... and realized they only came in that pack... Such a bummer.. BUT this is what ebay is for XD I'll just buy all the ponies separate on there in a few years without having to spend a 100 bucks

Oh dear, sorry about your pony dilemma! It is *possible* that at some stage someone has glued the pony's head back on with superglue. Superglue is terrible stuff, and helpful parents love it.

With regards to your worry about the hairdryer burning the hair, it hasn't on any of mine where I have used my hairdryer to heat up the neck seal and loosen it. I prefer to use the hairdryer on stubborn neck seals personally and have never had a problem.

Don't leave the rust inside the pony though as it will continue to corrode and the pony will eventually become stained.

Good luck!

I have to agree with the hair dryer... (I've put many heads back on with this method as well.)
If push comes to shove you could try dental floss or string dipped in acetone and work it into the neck seam. You just have to be careful to not get the acetone anywhere else on the pony...

Thank you both very very much!  Those are such wonderful ideas, I was so worried about the hairdryer because I had burned a barbie's hair once with one when I was little, its quite different hair though I'll definitely give it a good try! :D I didnt want to have to soak her anymore and make the rust worse. I'll post an update to let you all know how it goes!

Welcome! Oh, so good that you rescued the ponies! Seems like they came to the best place for them ;) I have (luckily) never had to clean out a pony like that- but I am pondering the state of one little baby Firefly who I suspects have a lot of gunk inside... I just need to brace myself for opening her up :lookround:

Oh my goodness! What a coincidence the worst pony in my haul was a baby firefly as well!  I filled her with dawn and scrubbed the inside of her with a toothbrush really well and shes squeaky clean!  That should definitely work for you too, its awfully icky but very much worth the effort <3 I used some cotton swabs for the inside bottoms of her feet in the places the toothbrush couldnt reach. Good luck with your little baby firefly!

Welcome to the arena! :) One of the Mods might be able to get your old account back up and running.

Thank you very much!  :P and they tried but its lost to the void haha oh well

15
I agree omg haha  I have like five or six twilight sparkles now all because I wanted the ponies that came with her. And dont get me wrong a few are different but others arent. I think they also just want the extra money, none of the popular characters are EVER in a pack alone just so it can be more expensive and force people to buy the whole set for one. All the single pack ponies are kind of budget ponies that arent in the show.
