The Dollhouse / Trying to get onto MHArena board
« on: November 06, 2019, 01:45:48 PM »
Hi everyone,
I was pretty active here during my MLP-obsessed phase a couple of years ago.  I still love my ponies but I've moved onto Monster High.
I'm trying to get onto the MHArena discussion board but no one has responded to my request to register for over a week now.  I don't know if I should just keep waiting patiently or if there is something I need to do?
Does anyone here know if the board is still actively accepting new members or have the mods 'retired'?  I can see the board is still fairly active with a handful of posts a week but with the MH line now ended I wonder if the board is fizzling out...
I am desperate to discuss MH with other obsessives so if anyone can shed any light on how I get a profile on the board I would be v grateful!
Thank you!
Sarah

Pony Corral / Flatfoot vs concave ponies
« on: September 27, 2017, 03:12:45 AM »
I'm just curious as I recently acquired flat foot Minty and Blossom...

Are the flat footed ponies more rare/sought-after/valuable than their concave footed counterparts?

Also I was intrigued by the physical differences. The flatfoot ponies have shorter front legs and lower head positions and those funny feet that are not only flat but curiously asymmetric and randomly shaped (the hoofprint)

Both my Blossom and my Minty arrived with the washers loose. I've only cleaned Minty so far but when I did I took them out. Goodness those are some big chunks of metal! And now Minty faceplants at the slightest opportunity which my children find hilarious and I find adorable.

Are there any other differences?

I've read the Wiki but still can't figure this out:

Bow Tie
So in Europe as well as the "shy pose" Bow Tie there was also a Collector's Pose Bow Tie.  My question is whether she only came as the "groom 'n' style" pony with very long straight mane/tail or if she also came as a "regular" CP pony with regular mane & tail (slightly curved).

Peachy
Same sort of question - Peachy came with the Grooming Parlour playset, and she has the very long straight mane & tail.  But was there also a regular Peachy with the regular type of mane & tail?

I want to complete my CP set, I already have the grooming style Bow Tie and Peachy but if there are also regular versions I want to get those too.

Thanks!!

Pony Corral / Show-accurate Princess Luna??
« on: September 14, 2017, 09:05:51 AM »
Does anyone know if there is a Hasbro or fakie Princess Luna figure with the right colours?  My daughter loves her character in the show and really wants a toy of her (pref brushable but any will do), but when she sees the pale lilac toys she says "that's completely wrong!! That's not what she looks like!"

The best I've seen is the Funko but I don't know how good it is for play or if it's just for display.

Wanted! / Wanted: MLP G1 Minty (ship to UK)
« on: September 11, 2017, 07:49:52 AM »
Does anyone have G1 Minty looking for a new home?

I'm in the UK and don't really want to pay international shipping so would prefer a Minty currently residing in Europe.

No pony cancer or drastic haircuts please but any other faults are fine (e.g. minor haircuts, rust, fading, pen marks, wear and tear etc)

She will be owned by an adult collector (me) but will get spa days, cuddles and hair styling and the chance to play from time to time with my 5 year old who has her own G1 collection.

My other CP ponies (Blossom, Cotton Candy, Snuzzle, Bow Tie and Blue Belle) are waiting to welcome her.

Pony Corral / Are these fake G4 Celestia & Nightmare Mooon figures?
« on: September 01, 2017, 02:00:30 PM »
I just received Princess Celestia and Nightmare Moon figures via eBay.

These are the first G4 figures I have bought new (got my first batch a couple of days ago, second-hand early mane 6).  The quality is so poor I am wondering if they are fakes/knock-offs (I am hoping they are, as the alternative -- that this is the quality of official merch -- is appalling).  They came from a seller based in the UK but clearly with links to China and the figures came not in packaging (which I knew in advance).

These are the issues:

- first and foremost, they can't stand up. They just topple over to one side at the slightest touch.  None of the hooves is flat to the ground.  If I bend one of the back legs outwards and turn the head away from the leaning, it can stand but precariously. Photo: woah catch me please!

- the plastic is rough, with a scuffed/sandpapered feeling in places and with visible lines from the mold. Photo:

- Celestia's head is noticeably a different colour from her body Photo:

- The paint is patchy in places, particularly on the feet where the black of NM's body shows through in places

- the glitter on NMs moon symbol has just been dumped on and bleeds outside of the symbol. Photo:

- the tail hair is so sparse as to not fill up the tail hole. Photo (sorry about my nails):

- Celestia's crown is a rough cheap-feeling weird bendy plastic, feels almost like sandpaper. Photo:

- the figures are very heavy and feel almost solid

Is this normal for G4? Am I just spoiled by beautiful G1s toys which are the only MLPs I've seen until now?

Pony Corral / Common/affordable blue G1s without pink
« on: September 01, 2017, 01:21:31 PM »
Ok so having just had my heart completely broken by alternate September Morning Glory I now have an itch for a blue or green pony that I can actually afford, preferably earth, preferably no pink embellishments and preferably an early pose (CP, shy, Posey, also like crumpet).

So yeah, basically a dupe for alternate SMG birthflower.

Already have Bow Tie CP, Bow Tie shy, Tootsie, Moonstone, Main Sail, Seaflower, Hopscotch and FiFi (i know FiFi is white but her blue hair makes her look to me like SMG colours in reverse). Hmm, that kind of looks like I've got enough but that's not possible surely.

Edit: actually a little bit of pink is ok. Depends on the shade.

Pony Corral / Archive of the FiM subforum?
« on: August 30, 2017, 11:35:38 AM »
I was aware the FiM sub forum was due to be closed and I was sorry to read about the issues leading up to the decision. It looks as though that has happened now?

I wasn't active in the forum but enjoyed reading some of the threads and I'm surprised to see everything seems to have been deleted apart from one or two threads that have been moved over to the corral. Is there a plan to make an archive available? E.g. I was enjoying the "your worst character" and the movie threads.

Pony Corral / How do I clean a G4 pony?
« on: August 30, 2017, 11:27:00 AM »
Today I've acquired a small collection of G4 ponies (for my daughter, I really only like G1s). They could all do with a mini spa day but I have some questions:

Can they be submerged or are they like G1s where you should be careful not to let any water inside?
Are they hollow like G1s?
Do they have a tail washer and can they ever get tail rust?
Can you take them apart like a G1?

They are my first G4s and the first I've seen IRL. They're kind of cute but their tails are a bit sparse and they don't really look like the characters in the programme... It's a shame they couldn't individualise their bodies a bit more and the eyes aren't quite right on Twilight (too seductive) and Rarity (no bottom eyelashes) (grumble grumble! I guess I am a die hard G1 fan! Also got a lovely Majesty today with matching white head and body, yay.)

Pony Corral / So I DID have a G1 pony when I was little! Confirmed!
« on: August 26, 2017, 01:58:54 PM »
When I got interested in MLP again a couple of months ago it was because of a friend my age who has given her G1 collection from her childhood to her daughter who is best friends with my daughter (they're 4 and 5 years old).

I vividly remembered how I'd loved MLP to the point of obsession but I wasn't sure if my memory of owning Blossom(?) was true or just a memory of a fantasy.

Well this weekend I'm visiting my parents and my mum remembers me loving MLP and she remembers I did have a MLP and how I loved it and spent hours brushing its hair and playing with it.  She said she thought it was pink (so cotton candy, I was thinking) but when I showed her a picture of Cotton Candy and of Blossom she said she thought it was Blossom.

So I really did have one!

For some reason this has made me very happy, to know that little-girl-me did get to have a pony after all.

It has been great fun introducing my bemused elderly parents to the cast of Friendship is Magic today with the help of my son (7) and daughter (5). We've played and sung them a couple of Pinkie Pie's songs and my children have described the characters in great depth and got their grandpa to choose his favourite (Rarity!).

There something wonderful about the different pony generations and the generations of my family coming together. My daughter will be getting G1s AND G4s for her birthday next week.

** photos transferred to imgur and now working with no weirdos following me. yay **

Hi everyone,

Warning this post includes graphic images of a decapitated G1 pony and her decaying innards, which some may find distressing.

I had ponies as a child in the 80s but just started collecting a few weeks ago. Thanks all who have made me so welcome. One of my favourites is Posey but she came to me in a very neglected state, poor girl and it looks as if she may have had some baths or swimming adventures in her career.  She has a serious case of tail rust and was very grubby looking (much worse than appears in the photo), with suspiciously opaque feet and some random blobs of red nail varnish on her face.  Her mane was nice and silky (although forelock a bit wild) but her tail was completely tangled and dry.

Her head popped off easily -- but, YUCK!!! Full of disgustingness which scattered everywhere (didn't get a photo of that bit), most of it had already fallen out when I took these photos which do not capture the full horror. Don't click on spoiler if eating your lunch:

I managed to ease out her tail from the inside, thick as it was with rust.

Then, using a baby toothbrush and a mild organic lavender body wash I scrubbed out as much mould and rust as I could.  Cotton buds and pipe cleaners weren't long or strong enough to really clean the inner hooves though. I did what I could with my fingers and nails and by cruelly straightening her bent legs.  I guess I should look for a very small bottle brush for future deep cleans.

I don't know how safe nail varnish remover is on pony skin?  So don't shoot me. But I risked it
with a tiny amount of acetone-free forumlation and gently lifted off the two splodges of red nail varnish, quickly rinsing off afterwards.

I was only partially successful with the tail, using several applications of whitening toothpaste and working it in well with my fingers. Some of the remaining colour is actually traces of the original pale pink though.

I detangled the tail using a gentle detangling brush and mild conditioner. I was pleased by how well the tangles came out but will need to give a deeper condition using something stronger (Pantene? I see is used by some?).

I soaked the tail washer in vinegar overnight and scrubbed off the rust with aluminium tin foil, then when dry I gave it a couple of coats of clear varnish to prevent further corrosion.

Here she is drying on my windowsill.

I was very paranoid about any water being left inside so dried her inside down to the hooves with clean dry pipe cleaners and left her in the breeze from the open window.

Here she is, clean and dry before re-assembly:

The tail is still quite dried out and frizzy at the ends so will need further work.

Here's her lovely clean face:

I love her so much!!! Does anyone else find that cleaning and caring for their ponies makes them bond with them? She wasn't my favourite of the herd before, but she definitely is now.  :inlove:

Am I crazy that I actually think she looks a little bit happier and is carrying herself just a little more proudly?

Introductions / Hi! Accidental G1 collector, also G4-curious
« on: August 11, 2017, 12:40:44 PM »
Short version: I intended to get a couple of G1 ponies for my daughter's 5th birthday next month, for nostalgic reasons. I have accidentally ended up with a small collection for myself! I was delighted to find this forum and have really enjoyed reading your discussions about G1s as well as picking up tips on how to clean a rusty tail etc. I'm also G4-curious, I think they're very cute characters and want to watch FiM.

Long version: I had forgotten all about My Little Pony until my daughter and her friend (both 4 years) started role playing as My Little Pony ponies, pretending to be Cotton Candy or Butterscotch or Majesty.

I assumed it must be inspired by a rebooted cartoon or something but, no, the little girl's mum had given her her original My Little Pony collection from the 80s.

With a wave of nostalgia I remembered how I'd loved and adored and dreamed about the My Little Pony toys.

I can't remember if I was actually allowed one of my own. My parents would probably have deemed them trashy. I do have a memory of owning a Blossom or Minty but that could have been a fantasy.

However I remember my best friend and I, at her house when we were about 7, poring obsessively over her My Little Pony catalogue. My friend used to tell me if her parents won the lottery they would buy her the whole collection and another whole set for me and the thought was utterly delicious. In our 7 year old brains there was basically no possible better use of a million pounds than to spend it all on My Little Ponies.

I decided to get my daughter a couple of My Little Ponies on eBay for her 5th birthday next month.

Well once I started looking I could not resist those gorgeous pastel vinyl equines. I now have a small herd hidden in my wardrobe: a very grubby Blossom and her baby, who are more grey than lilac; a very rusty Posey with white hair and a brown (!) tail, a beautiful Music Time, a lovely Snuzzles, a nice CP Bow Tie, a shy pose Bow Tie, Parasol, Peachy and on the way Tootsie. I want to get Mainsail, a Posey with proper pink hair and will probably need another Parasol as I think my daughter and I will need one each. I would love Seaflower but I don't know if she ever comes up for sale.

I can't wait to start cleaning up the ones in need of TLC but have to wait until after my daughter's birthday next month as I don't want to ruin the surprise by have ponies sitting around drying.

I've really enjoyed reading the forum as a guest over the past couple of weeks of obsession! Especially reading POTD for the ponies I know.

At the moment I'm most interested in G1 ponies although I would like to watch FiM and I like the look of the articulated G4 toys, haven't seen them IRL and not sure they'd have the tactile charm of the G1 vinyls. I think the characterisation is cute though.
