Any MLP/Model Horse Collectors in the Toronto Area?
« on: November 09, 2015, 09:06:30 PM »
So, ah, hello everyone!  Remember me?  It has sure been a while! *waves*

Are you a collector in the Toronto area (and beyond?)
Are you also a closet (or maybe out-of-the-closet!) model horse collector too?

On Saturday, December 5th, we're organizing another Toronto Plastic Ponies Club Swap Meet & Activity Day, and I wanted to put a shout-out to the community to see if people here would be interested in attending too!

The Toronto Plastic Ponies Club has been working for the past year to create fun days and swap meets for collectors of all ages (and while the focus is primarily on model horses like Breyers, I've been known to work a MLP in to the curriculum once or twice!).  It's a great opportunity to find meet local collectors and swap in Canadian $$ (which is a really nice thing right now...)

For a loose agenda of things, the Swap Meet will happen in the morning between 10am-1pm (although tables may be left up longer if there's room) Tea & coffee will be served & we can put in for a pizza lunch around noon.  There will also be a wonderful display & talk about Copperfox Models, a brand new manufacturer of collectible equines.  And in the afternoon we'll be doing a cool holiday craft with real horseshoes:

(The big question is - will you give it as a gift, or keep it for yourself???)

RSVP is a must, as space & supplies are limited!

When: Saturday Dec 5th, 10am-3pm

Where: 170 Galloway Rd, Party Room @ Ann Marie Hill Cooperative
This apartment complex is located just off Kingston Road between Markham and Morningside, easily accessible from the 401 /or/ public transit. While there is limited visitor parking in the lot itself, street parking is free and ample (but do be aware of any posted signs traffic signs regardless).

Cost: $10 half table or $15 full table
Tables are limited, so registration is a must to reserve a spot.

Just coming to look or simply accompanying someone who is? A suggested donation of $5 goes towards the cost of the room and lets us keep bring you these great hobby days.

Craft: cost TBA shortly
Materials for this craft are limited, so pre-registration is important to reserve your supplies for this adorable little horseshoe ornament

TPPC Info: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1418535405110784
Website: http://torontoplasticponiesclub.webs.com

Feel free to drop by any time - stay the whole day, or just come for your favourite parts :D

If you have a special collection piece you'd like to share, bring it along - we love to share each others stories and collections!

Again, RSVP is a must if you're looking to participate in the Swap or Craft, but it's also fantastic to just let us know you're stopping by so we know how many people to prepare for.

Any questions, do ask!  Hoping to see many new (and old!) faces there  :D

Even from Michigan this sounds like fun. Dang it, I have so many models that need a new home BUT my weekends don't fall on, well, weekends! Such is life. In any case, thank you for the announcement & I hope you have lots of people come!

@ Amy - we try to hold a TPPC meet every few months - so there'll be another one sometime in April, and very cool customizing workshop in June.  Joining the FB (if you're on fb!) is a good way of keeping track of club info, but if it's something people here want to keep hearing about, I'm more than happy to keep posting here too!

@ Ionn  - Oh, I know that feeling XD  I believe last weekend was my first "free" weekend since... August? XD  But as I said, we aim to have them semi-frequently, so maybe one day in the future our dates will match up :D

Also, since many members have pretty impressive collections of all kinds, we're happy to "bring" things other people want to see in-the-flesh.  So, any shout-outs or requests?  Ask away - you might be surprised what we can lure out of the woodwork!

ETA:  Oops, chubby siggy!  I'll have to compress it down tonight to fit >.>

Yes, we  post our meets up in all of those places too (I'm LadyWhimsy on OMH and Raventyde on Blab)  so we can reach as much of the local community as we can :D

How many buyers are there, on a typical day? I have a few hundred ponies to offload. :P

Sorry - work ate me for the last four days!  Hate it when that happens XD

@ Thunderwing - currently, our meets are much more a social club-like get together then, say, a toy show (although, creating a horse/girl toys/collectibles/etc oriented swap-circuit has been something on my mind for about a year now.  I think it could be VERY well utilized!)  On average about ten people show up.   That said, because it's a very specific group (model horse collectors) sellers with that specific stock (model horses) have done extremely well, clearing over $100+ in sales at even shorter meets.

While most people are looking for Breyers, Peter Stones, etc, there are a few MLP collectors and fanciers who have attended; my hope in putting the shout-out here, we will see more in the future, too :D  So I can't say you'll sell a hundred ponies, but those cute impulse buys are the thing that NEW collections are made of ;)  And you can always put a shout-out on the FB page first to see if people are interested in your wares.

Saturday is the day!  And we're hoping to see you all there - even if you just drop in to say "Hi!"  :P

The website has been updated to register for the craft too - we're had to switch it up to making Shoe Halters, as we had a hiccup getting the horseshoes in time (so, next time!)  These halters will be simple enough that ANYONE of any skill level will be able to make something beautiful.  And if you're so inclined, you can make them every bit as fancy as you like :D  (Preregistration is also helpful for us so we know how many to expect, too!)

SEE YOU SATURDAY!!!
