Pony Brag Arena / This Week's Brag: Huge Shopgoodwill Lot!
« on: April 26, 2022, 01:01:40 PM »
Long time no see! I got super lucky on a $30-ish pony lot from Shopgoodwill, and it just arrived a few days ago. I could see five G1s buried amongst a bunch of G3s and G4s in the photo, but since it was basically a grab bag lot, I wasn't sure what to expect. I got quite the surprise when I opened the box to see not just five, but eight G1s!

Here's the G1s I got (these girls were grimy but I forgot to take before pics, so just imagine them caked with dirt and mysterious sticky substances)!

Sweet Suds (with her original ribbon!)

I only have one other Perfume Puff and her mane and tail are a mess, so it was a treat to see such a lovely soft puffy mane and tail! Sweet Suds is pretty much in perfect condition with beautiful symbols. She even had her original ribbon tied in her mane! I think this is the first G1 I've ever gotten with their original ribbon.

Starry Wings

You have no idea how excited I was to pull this girl out of the box. Easily my favorite from this whole lot, and one you couldn't even see in the photos that were provided. She is so minty I can hardly believe it, and her wings are both in perfect condition!

Boysenberry Pie

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

It seems like Boysenberry is prone to discoloration in general. This is my second Boysenberry and she's got yellow-ish stains all over her body as well. Perhaps from the mane? Hmm. Either way, she's lovely otherwise!

Coco Berry

This girl has been on my wishlist for awhile, and I finally have her! She's in pretty good condition with just a little yellowing.

BBE Baby Half Note

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

This little one came with all four of her original legwarmers!

Fizzy

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

This Fizzy is gorgeous, I don't see much of anything wrong with her! Beautiful symbols, and she still has some of the shimmery coating on her eyes. She's certainly an upgrade on my current Fizzy, who has a bit of a frizzy dry hair problem.

Parasol

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

This Parasol was pretty filthy when she got here, and it took a LOT of scrubbing to get her looking presentable. She does have a marker stain on her NDS foreleg, but I think it adds to her charm! It seems I'm collecting sad Parasols.

Taffy

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Yeesh...this poor girl. That flocking is sad, and it looks better than it did when she first got here. Other than the flocking, though, she's pretty lovely! And from what I understand she's a bit harder to find as SS go, so I'm happy.

Repro Confetti

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Confetti is one of my favorite ponies, so you'll never see me complain about getting extras of her! One day I might have a Confetti conga, hehe.

I also got...a singular adult pony legwarmer. Well, I suppose I can collect the rest over time!

I haven't actually gotten around to cleaning them up yet, but along with the G1s in this lot I also got:

G3s:

All in all, a very nice lot!

Arts & Crafts Corral / [2022 Ref Sheet] Merry Anvil
« on: April 24, 2022, 11:28:17 AM »
Since it's been several years since I last drew them, I thought it was time to make my ponysona, Merry Anvil, a new reference sheet! I wasn't terribly happy with some aspects of their design so they got a bit of a redesign, as well. They never really had a proper ref before, but now they do <3 I'm quite happy with how it came out!

Pony Brag Arena / Pony Mail - Recent Additions! So Many Ponies!
« on: April 06, 2020, 11:53:56 AM »
I have been completely dreadful at keeping up with brags lately! And that's terribly ironic since I'm stuck at home with basically nothing to do at the moment.

First up, we have some recent additions purchased from Mercari <3

I stumbled upon this Salty who was from a seller I've bought from before, and he was quite reasonably priced for how lovely he is! This poor boy had a rather rough time getting here. With all the confusion going on lately, he was accidentally shipped to the wrong person. Thankfully everyone involved was very nice, and he was shipped back to the seller and then was shipped out to me again. Then, unfortunately he was out for delivery and our mail person's truck broke down! So he had to be unloaded into a different truck to be delivered. Thankfully, he arrived safe and sound, along with...

...these two precious little Petites the seller included as a surprise! These are my first Petites and I must admit, I'm feeling an urge to collect more of them now. I adore them!

Next we have Mainsail! I've wanted Mainsail for a long time as well, but she's been difficult to find in good condition for cheap. This girl was only $12.64 total with free shipping, and she is absolutely gorgeous! We haven't had enough sun lately to check if her hair still changes color, but when these clouds clear off I'll do just that!

Next, a very special addition. I participated in the MLPTP Fundraiser this year, and I was lucky enough to be picked as one of the prize winners! I got this absolutely beautiful kitsune pony custom from SerendipitySky on the TP. She was apparently made from a Basic Fun pony. I adore her! I've been a fan of SerendipitySky's kitsune ponies for a long while, so I'm thrilled to have one of my very own.

Aside from that, I was a participant in MLPTP's Easter Swap this year, and I had a great time shopping for my partner! My own swap box arrived today and my partner spoiled me...

Pony Brag Arena / This Week's Brag: TLC Lot!
« on: March 21, 2020, 02:58:26 PM »
I hope everyone has been able to keep themselves busy with everything that's going on lately. I've been doing so by spending time online shopping for ponies, since thrifting is out for the foreseeable future! I found this cute little cheap TLC lot on Mercari and it arrived yesterday. According to the seller, the lot had been stored away in a box since the 90's! They were all obviously very well-loved. They all have haircuts and various issues but I love them!

I set about cleaning them all up and making them beautiful!

First up is Baby Sweet Steps, one of the main reasons I bought this lot! She has been on my wishlist for awhile and she is just too cute with her little curly bangs <3

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Then we have Beautybloom! She was in rough shape. She had nail polish on her hooves and some of her own chopped-off hair was stuck in it. Yuck! She cleaned up pretty nicely though.

Next is Sprinkles, who has been on my wishlist since forever! She cleaned up nicely with some stains. Oddly enough her tail popped out while I was washing it, so I popped her already-completely-unglued head off and pulled her washer out since it was rattling around in there. It was pristine, no rust or anything! I still took it out just to be safe before putting her tail back in.

Next is this lovely bright Bowtie, who cleaned up real nice with the exception of a smudged symbol, stains from the nail polish on her hooves, and a little bit of nail polish still left on her display side symbol (I wasn't sure about scrubbing at it anymore since I didn't want to rub her paint off...I'll give it another try soon). Her mane would not stay out of her face no matter which direction I tried to lay it, so I just pinned it back with this cute little bow barrette!

Just for giggles, I took a pic of her with my other Bowtie to compare the two. Old Bowtie is quite faded, goodness!

Next is Majesty, who was probably one of the worst of the lot in terms of condition. I wasn't able to get all the nail polish stains off her hooves, but I'm hoping that sunfading her will do the trick!

Next is Peachy, one of the few Collector ponies I was missing. She was also one of the worst and still has quite a bit of staining, but she did clean up nice otherwise!

And last but not least...er. Well. Parasol! This girl was definitely the roughest out of all of them. She's missing a tail, has smudged symbols, age marks, and staining. But she's my first Parasol, so I'll do my very best to get her looking gorgeous again <3

All in all I'm quite pleased by how well they've cleaned up!

Pony Brag Arena / Pony Mail - Lovebeam!
« on: March 15, 2020, 01:24:05 PM »
So I totally forgot to make a brag post about this gal!

Last week I got a good deal on Lovebeam on Mercari, who has been one of my soft grails since I was little. She arrived this past week (sadly she's not as nice as I'd hoped, she had some undisclosed chew marks) but she's still so gorgeous ahhh <3 I know it's a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I adore the Bride pose, and the Color Swirl set so much <3

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I also got a cheap bait lot from someone on instagram and I'm super looking forward to rehairing everyone! I've started working on Sherbet, who needed a rehair and to have her symbols repainted. I decided to repaint her symbol to match the hair she'd been partially rehaired in, as well as give her heterochromia because why not? It looks really cool!

It seems that the colors they used are Venom and White Chocolate...I need to find an alternative site to buy more of those colors from so I can finish her! Any recommendations? >u<

I will probably be doing a blue yarn rehair for Baby Firefly and a mint and white nylon rehair for Crunch Berry. Lucky has had his symbols wiped but he does still have his eye paint. I'm trying to decide whether to give him a whole new look or to just repaint his horseshoes back on and rehair him >u<; Can't decide! I adore his eyes, they're so cute.

Arts & Crafts Corral / Trying Embroidery - Steamer!
« on: March 13, 2020, 02:17:01 PM »
I saw these really neat drawstring canvas backpack things at Hobby Lobby a few months ago, and I thought it might be neat to have a fun, unique bag to take with me to pony-related events. I thought about doing fabric paint on it or something, but I've always wanted to try embroidery, so I did some sketches and decided to do a big ol' piece on the front pocket. I wanted it to be a boy pony, and Steamer was both my first boy pony and also one of my first G1s, so it seemed like the perfect choice! I bought the bag last week, started the piece at the beginning of this week, and then...

...I finished it today! There are lots of mistakes and things I could have done better, but honestly I couldn't be more happy to have it come out as well as it did. Especially since I've never tried it before...I was expecting it to be a hot mess ^u^; But thankfully it was more tedious and time-consuming than difficult! Anyhow, now I have an awesome bag for future pony events >u<

Pony Brag Arena / Pony Mail - Gorgeous Tex!
« on: March 05, 2020, 12:11:35 PM »
I am just completely flabbergasted by these Big Brother deals I keep finding on eBay! I got lucky on an auction for Tex. I got him for $9.99 plus shipping. The seller is actually from the same state (in fact they live about an hour away from me and have a booth at a shop there! I don't know if they're on the forums here but supposedly they have hundreds of ponies and we've been in contact about my possibly getting more boys from them), and so he got here very quickly!

He arrived this morning...

And goodness, he cleaned up beautifully! He just had some surface dirt but other than that, he is as mint-y as can be. No scratches to any of his paint or blush, no discoloration/age spots, nice, silky-smooth, uncut hair...gosh.

I have a couple more pony mail packages on the way, but after those get here I'll be saving any more pony buying for the OK MLP meet happening later this month! (I'd kick myself if I spent all my pony funds before the meet  :P )

Pony Brag Arena / Pony Mail - Watercolor Baby Sea Pony Foamy!
« on: February 29, 2020, 03:40:01 PM »
I wasn't expecting this gal to get here this week, or else I'd have pushed off the other brag until today so I could include her there! >u< But she arrived two days early, so here we are. I bought this girl from a seller on Mercari. She was $5 plus shipping, and was listed as being full of mold and having a squished face. Both of those are pretty easily remedied, and it was a great price for this girl, so I got her <3 She was listed as 'Seashore', but she's actually Foamy.

So, she arrived! I took some before and after pictures so you could see how nicely she cleaned up ^u^

She cleaned up beautifully! She's borrowing Water Lily's float, which I found at a garage sale without Water Lily when I was little. I finally have a baby sea pony to put in it, and it only took me 13 years to get one! >u<

Upon her arrival, I quickly realized she was quite interesting. So while her face is a little squished, that's not what's making her features look odd. I'm pretty sure her right eye is a misprint. I squished her face back into a normal shape temporarily with my finger, and her right eye is painted completely differently than her left. The lashes are thinner, the paint looks softer, and some things are obviously out of alignment (the eyeshine is in a different position, it looks like her iris is bleeding over the outlines, etc). So I believe this little gal is a factory error! It only makes me like her more <3

Pony Brag Arena / This Week's Brag: Forget-Me-Not and Chief!
« on: February 28, 2020, 12:17:17 PM »
I had a nice little relaxed week, but I did get some lovely pony things I'd like to share!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

First off, my only thrifting find for the week, Forget-Me-Not! She was a little overpriced (not by much, but y'know) but she's been sitting all sad and unloved in a booth in our local antique mall since like...September of last year, and she was calling to me, so I decided to take her home. She cleaned up beautifully, and marks my first successful attempt at ringlet curls! I did also pick up Moondancer's brush, since it was still there and I don't have any of her accessories.

Next was a pony mail addition! I spotted this fairly inexpensive Chief on eBay, and I caved and bought him. My Big Brother herd is growing by the day! The poor boy has some issues but I'm confident I can lessen, if not completely fix, all of them. His paint is gorgeous and other than a little dryness at the tip of his tail, his hair is beautiful. His problems lie in the marker stains on his NDS, and the fact that his body is yellowed. He also has a warped leg, but I've fixed those before so I'm not too worried. I will be sunfading him <3

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Lastly was a sticker I ordered from Frog & Cog on etsy! I browse etsy occasionally for pony stuff, and I clicked on their shop out of curiosity because I saw all the cute chibi pony stickers. And then I saw that they had Apple Split! Ahhh Apple Split is my absolutely favorite background pony, the bestest of boys. I immediately snapped one up, there was no way I couldn't. Here's the sticker along with my current Apple Split herd! I have no idea what I'm going to use it on yet, but I am stoked about it.

Customs / A bunch of random projects! [New 3/2]
« on: February 28, 2020, 11:59:46 AM »
I have been feeling very crafty and motivated lately! I finally made myself a rehairing tool with a needle and an X-acto handle two days ago, and it was so easy to use. I've managed to complete 2 yarn rehairs (my first ever full rehairs!) and I'm now working on a third with nylon hair and I haven't even needed to change the needle once!

Here's what I've been working on:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

My majorly regrind-y Cloud Puff (or Polka-Puff as I've been calling her in my head), who I got for $1 last year at the OK MLP meet, is getting a new pair of wings using the soda bottle method! I did try to put glitter on it after these photos but turned out to be a major mistake because the glue I used just flaked right off >u< Don't know what I was thinking, these bottles aren't very porous so I need to find something else to use so it has traction haha. I might try to just paint the wings and then sprinkle glitter on the paint and seal it and see if that takes better. But gosh, it was so satisfying to press the button and flutter her wings!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I finished my first rehair, and she's a yarn rehair at that! I still need to brush it out and give it that nice fluffy texture, but I seem to have misplaced my brush, so that will have to wait. This little sweetie was a Tara fakie who came to me in a lot with her mane rotted off. Her tail turned to dust when I tried to wash it Dx So I decided to try rehairing her with this lovely yarn I have! It came out beautiful, I am so pleased with her fluffy new 'do <3

And lastly for now, I made another Apple Split custom. This one...oh boy. Everything that could have possibly gone wrong with this boy went wrong. The paint on his face just...started sloughing off as I was finishing up and getting ready to seal him so I could do his actual face paint (eyes, freckles, etc). I was extra careful with my base coats, but the paint just flaked off! And it took the base coat off with it. So I had to spend a ton of time building the layers back up over the part of his face that didn't have any. When I finally got him finished and dry, I decided to be extra careful with my sealant. I put four coats on him and the paint STILL started to come off. I will never be using this particular brand again. I've never had this problem before.

I used the same color yarn from the Tara fakie since it was a great match for Apple Split's canon hair color. If I could go back and do it again I wouldn't have cut it and tried to style it to be show accurate, but oh well! I guess I can't always be happy with my customs.

Pony Corral / Who else has Rosey Posey?
« on: February 24, 2020, 09:44:30 AM »
I'm super curious! I don't see many of her around, even for a rare pony. So I'm interested to see who else has her!

(If you don't know who Rosey Posey is, she was a Hasbro Charity Ball exclusive. She was given out to attendees of the ball.)

I found two of her at a Savers in MA around...a little less than a decade ago, 9.5 years I'd say? I was thirteen years old at the time. They were $2 each. I gave the second one I found to my sister, and we display them together! The first one I found is this gal:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I kept her exactly as I found her, so she still has the plastic hair-wrap thingy in her hair and a band on her tail! The second one I found a week later (my sister's) is in lovely condition except for her hair, which is majorly frizzy. I'm a bit too scared to try to help her treat it to be honest! You can see both of them together here:

Do you have her? Please share photos if possible, I'd love to see!

Pony Brag Arena / Pony Mail - Barnacle In Need of TLC
« on: February 16, 2020, 04:07:38 PM »
In addition to the Wigwam I took a chance on recently, I also took a chance on a $3 Barnacle on Etsy. I could tell he had a bad haircut, was discolored, and his symbols were a bit faded, although the seller claimed he 'just had a haircut and was in overall good condition, from a smoke-free home'. But hey, he was $3 plus shipping. Even for a complete bait-y Big Brother that was an okay deal, right?

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

He arrived yesterday in the absolute worst packaging I have ever had a pony shipped to me in. It was - and I am completely serious here, as you can see from the photos - one polyethylene foam sheet wrapped in either duct tape or packaging tape, I can't tell which. It FEELS like duct tape but it has warnings on it like packaging tape. Either way, that was all he arrived in. No box, no envelope. Just...foam and tape.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

So onto the poor boy. Um...yeah. He did not look this bad in the photos. He still looked a little blue in the photos. In actuality, he is completely green-ish grey, and smells heavily of smoke, something the seller did not disclose to me beforehand. Needless to say, the seller got a one star review (which is not something I do often if at all, but this was pretty bad).

For comparison, here were the seller's photos:

However, I am not giving up on this boy! I'm going to try to restore him as my first major restoration project. For now, I am trying to get rid of the smoke smell with cat litter. If that doesn't work, I'll try the charcoal method from MLP Preservation Project. Here he is in phase one of the de-stink treatment >u<

I'm not sure if it would be okay to tell their username here publicly, so if you'd like to know who they are in order to avoid purchasing from them (they have several other ponies listed across multiple sites, not just Etsy) please PM me and I will tell you <3

Customs / Mini Prince Firefly!
« on: February 15, 2020, 04:02:22 PM »
I just finished my McD's Prince Firefly custom! He was created from a McDonald's Light Heart figurine and painted entirely by hand in acrylics. His tail was hand-sculpted out of Sculpey and then painted to match. His head still turns quite nicely!

He looks a little bluer in the photos than he is in real life, not sure what was going on with my lighting! But overall I'm very happy with how he came out <3

Customs / Customizing G2 McDonald's Ponies
« on: February 13, 2020, 04:19:59 PM »
I'm not sure if anyone's opened these up before (actually nah, I'm sure at least one person has). I keep getting these manky Lightheart McDonald's ponies in lots, and they're starting to overrun my McD's pony bucket! so I figured I'd take the one I have that's in the worst condition and turn it into Prince Firefly. But I quickly realized that the neck plugs on these things are tough.

I spent a good ten minutes running the head and neck under hot water and pulling on it before I was finally able to pry it loose. And the neck plug actually has a little mechanism on it that makes the head turn. Both the plug and the mechanism came out with no damage, these things are quite solid. Although now I'm worried about when it comes time to put the head back on lol! But anyway, I thought these pics might be interesting enough to show for anyone who was curious or had thought about customizing these:

I am honestly thoroughly impressed by the quality of these things. These are Happy Meal toys, I wasn't expecting such a hardy mechanism to challenge me when I decided to customize one! I will definitely post pics after the Prince Firefly custom is complete too <3
