Pose-wise, my tastes haven't changed much from when I was a kid. The baby unicorn pose was and still is one of my favorites. I grieved the loss of it when I saved up to buy Baby Glory and by the time I had enough money to get her, my mom took me to the store and to my horror, that line was gone and had been replaced by BBE babies!! I hated the Surprise/Heartthrob pose, and the Dancing Butterflies pose because I thought they were hard to play with, and I still don't like it even though I don't 'play' with them anymore.
I've embraced some of the gimmicks as an adult a little more. I wasn't a fan of them as a kid, because I thought they were distracting. I thought Twinkle Eyes were kind of soulless-looking, so I avoided them. But they have some of the brightest and most interesting colors, and I enjoy collecting them now. So Softs were too 'other' from the rest of my collection, so they got ignored. Plus they got dirty. I can appreciate a good condition So Soft now, but I still don't seek them out. Brush-n-Grows just pretty much came after my time; I remember my youngest sister getting one, Ringlets, and we thought she was weird with her yellow eyes and aggressive looking pose. But her hair sure was fun to play with, though! We made her into a witch or something. As an adult, I love the BnGs!

Oh no poor Pochahontas! I had never encountered that type of hair before, and I don't know how feasible it'd be fix it or reroot it. Is your child okay with the hair?
I've never seen it before, either! It's the worst I've ever seen. My son is upset about the hair, but when I suggested cutting it all off so that we could reroot or put a wig on her, he got agitated. He really just wants me to fix it, but I'm afraid it's unsalvageable.

What a cool idea...thanks for sharing! I only have one of these birds (I should have 2, but my childhood one is awol), but I might do this for the one I have if I ever get the pony shelving I want.

One earthquake, also in Wisconsin. It shook the house but not to the point where stuff was falling off the walls or anything.
BC, I'm curious about where you used to live in WI...I wonder if it was the same earthquake I felt when I was living in northern IL. You don't have to say for privacy reasons if you don't want to, but was it around 2008-ish?
No, I left Wisconsin in 2002. It was probably in the 90s. I was a kid. My hometown is Kenosha
Oh okay! I'm familiar with Kenosha. Haven't been there in years, but my husband works there often. We're closer to Madison.

Nothing exactly disastrous, but I have felt an earthquake once in 2007 or 2008-ish. It woke me up in the middle of the night and I thought someone was breaking into my house because I could hear things rattling on the shelves. It felt like my house was sitting on top of a washing machine on spin cycle and it lasted a really long time, like a couple of minutes. A flood in the summer of 2007 took out my garden-level loft apartment. I had been out with friends, and drove home through 6 inches of water, only to come home and couldn't open my door, because you had to walk down 6 or 7 steps into an alcove, and the alcove was half full of water. The water got in of course, and flooded it. My friends called me for help, because they were floating down the street in their car. The summer of 2003 we had a microburst, which is like a tornado, but a different wind pattern. It was weird because it was right in the middle of the city. But it shut that part of the city down for days; there was no power and no one could drive through the side streets because of downed trees. My 2 cars were parked on the street, and a giant tree came down right in between them...I was lucky. Post Merge: July 31, 2022, 08:18:09 AMOne earthquake, also in Wisconsin. Another Care Bear story!
My mom told my sister and me to go through our toys and send what we didn't play with to the Salvation Army. When we asked what that was, she replied, 'they take old things and fix them up so that people who can't afford nice toys can have them.' I truly believed this, and went on this big crusade to find things for these hypothetical children who didn't have any toys.
I found my most cherished comfort toy, my plush Baby Tugs Care Bear, and knew he was kind of in 'loved' condition, but I thought if this place was able to fix things up like new, maybe some other child would be as happy as he made me. I knew I was really past the age of sleeping with a plush, but I remember tearing up as I put him in the bag. But I tried to tell myself I was helping someone.
I found out years later that what my mom said was a lie. They don't fix things up...they sort through the donations and whatever is acceptable for resale, they put on the shelves, and what isn't gets dumped. I was heartbroken to know that my favorite toy didn't go to a happy home with a needy child, but probably ended up in the landfill. I kicked myself for my naivete, and was angry at my mother for not pulling him out of the bag, knowing that I would likely regret getting rid of him.
And thus began my long history of holding onto things and regret if and when I ever do let anything go.

I do, but I also have small children in tow with me wherever I go, so anyone who sees just likely assumes that they are theirs. I don't like attention on me, so I in general try not to do anything to stand out, but my kids help me blend in.
I probably got some weird looks last summer when I had the disembodied pieces of an HQG1C blank pony that I accidentally over-dyed on my dashboard in the hopes of fading her out. That's probably the weirdest public thing I've done with a pony.

Wow!! This is the coolest fakie I have ever seen! She's beautiful as-is, and I'd love to have several of them for customs too. She'd make a good Last Unicorn custom!

Being pregnant is affecting my hormones and the tiredness making the smallest things seem like a major event.
Oh my goodness...I missed this somehow! Congratulations!!! That is wonderful news. I'm so very happy for you!

I guess I'll have to look it up. It sounds not very appealing. I could stand to cut down on my coffee intake though for sure, and would be open to an alternative.

G1--always and forever! They are what I grew up with. Nothing like a soft, squishy, chonky pony that fits right and feels right in your hand and has the perfect quality hair for brushing and playing with.
G3--kinda fun...went through a phase where I acquired a bunch, but as I scale my collection back, I'll probably sell most of 'em because they don't hold any real nostalgia for me.
G2--they are weird. Some of the gimmicks are downright baffling. But I have one-Prince Clever Clover, who I found for 50 cents at a garage sale, and I really like him. Not seeking any more out, though.
G4--just tired of these. Same ole' characters over and over, same ole' pose. I had to inwardly groan when they were being given out as party favors at my niece's birthday that my kids went to recently...MORE of these? And of course they picked the 3 characters I despise the most...c'mon, someone at least get Applejack! (Actually, I ended up finding Applejack in my purse later, so my sister must have snuck her in there as a joke!)
G5--nope.
G3.5--nice hair, but otherwise hideous.
G4.5--nope, nope, and nope, with some more nope sauce on top.

Are there not very many flat-foot Peachys? I think I have her, I'll have to check. I just assumed she was common.
