Title: Best Site for Pony Hair?
Post by: ChocolateStarfire on July 16, 2017, 09:22:13 AM
Hi everypony,

I am (finally!) finishing some customs that have been lying around in my custom box for a while and I was wondering what the best places were to buy pony hair online. I've used Dollyhair and RestoreDoll before but I don't know which place is the best for hair. I am also considering the differences between Saran and Nylon--which works better, in your experience, with customs?

Let me know your thoughts!  :art:  :what:

Thanks!

Id be interested to know what other people's thoughts are on this as well.
I have personally only ever used DollyHair, and never really run into any problems myself.

I am only asking because several members here have complained about Dollyhair's services...even though I haven't had any issues with either Dollyhair or RestoreDoll. I have seen Doll Planet's etsy but I don't know if the hair quality is the same.

I would use anybody else but Dollyhair.  Considering the amount of Trader Support posts on the business, why would you want to support it?

The color matching guides that I know of use Dollyhair's color schemes for reference. This makes it difficult to use other sites when it comes to replacing pony hair...holding a hank of hair with a certain color up to a screen to compare/match isn't exactly the best idea...you need to see the hair in person and make a purchase in order for it to work out.

I haven't bought pony hair in a long time and I wasn't sure of any additional resources--pros AND cons--about each company, whether or not the hair was a good quality, if there were issues with shipping time, etc. Pop-girl's post on the subject has not been updated in years and I have been out of the custom loop for some time. Plus I am running low on hair, so I need help.

Dollyhair seems to be out of the question, which is too bad, because I used to order from her in the past (circa 2012?). If anyone else has any comments about the other hair sellers please let me know.

Depending on your location you could use my little customs :) they are UK based, but do ship overseas.

I either use dollyhair or my little customs depending on what I need, how quickly I need it or who has what in stock :P

My Little Customs is a great site, I can't believe I forgot about it!

So far I have seen...
Dollyhair (mostly no)
RestoreDoll
Doll Planet
My Little Customs

Any other sites? Recommendations? I am going to decide between this and next week before I make my purchases.

Thanks for the help and for reading! :)

I like the Doll Planet and am ok with Retro Dolls. Both are good quality, I just prefer doll planet.

Has anyone undertaken matching RestoreDoll hair colors with actual MLPs, for those seeking to restore/replicate them?  Not all of Dollyhair's "matches" are exact or verified, but it is nice to know that you are getting something close when hair color matching is important for your custom.

I know you can ask Diana (the doll planet) about matching dolly hair to a character. She does this for monster high characters.

Update!

I ordered from The Doll Planet and Retro Dolls US and received the beautiful nylon hair from Doll Planet first. I really like the quality and color variety and will probably order from Doll Planet again.

I also have used RestoreDoll in the past and that hair is lovely.

Thanks for all of your help! :)
