Help me pick a new dolly
« on: May 16, 2015, 01:20:00 PM »
Hello everyone, I looking to buy a doll for my daughter for her 13th birthday. Let me start with some background she is very good with dolls and has a 80+ collection of monster high dolls recently she has been talking of reducing her collection down to a more manageable size(plus I think her friends where laughing at her for still having dolls ) so Iwas thinking of getting her a more grown up doll to display/pose/takes pics of.I know she would lool after a more exspensive doll I just have no idea what I should get her there are so many choices lol
I have a mini pullip which she likes but she wwants a bigger doll in fact the bigger the better lol so any ideas/ thoughts Id be really grateful for any input xxx
plus if you have a dolly for sale that you think would be suitable let me know xx

A full size pullip, or even a Tangkou is a great idea! Or even some Tonnor dolls (Elowyn Wilde is what I have in mind) If she likes the idea of a BJD, there are several companies that are somewhat affordable to a new bjd owner like Resinsoul, Bobobie, Doll Leaves, and Clover doll. I have pullips, a Tangkou and several bjd. My faves are my BJD's. I also got into dolls when I wwas around 13, but could never afford them/was afraid of being taunted. Now, 15 yrs later, I make my own money/ don't give a flying squirrel what people think!! But, your daughter is very lucky to have a mother who encourages her love of dolls :) So, good on you!

How about a Dal? They have a more youthful feel to them, while still being large enough to photograph, etc. There are some really cute dolls out there. Of course, can always go with a Pullip, lots of great choices right now.

I would suggest a ABS plastic BJD from Hujoo maybe, they are affordable, pretty and durable. I buy most of my Hujoo dolls through http://junkyspot.com/obindex.html

You guys are great:) the links are awesome thank you!
Xkelpiex thank you for your kind words:) Im trying to show her that if something makes her happy then never be ashamed. Teenage girls are just cruel sometimes:( Im hoping a new dolly will help her to not be embarrassed as she currently hides her dolls when her friends come round as they say they are childs dolls:( :( :(

That's so sad :( I always had teddy bears and model horses, but I don't think I had dolls again til I was 20 or so. I think getting her a more expensive and edgy doll might give her some cred. Like with ponies, my husband thought it was weird til I started making ponies he thought were awesome/edgy/guy-approved and then he loved it. (This is depite the fact that he had quite a large collection of GI Joe DOLLS.)

Hujoos are great little dolls! And they are easy to shop for. Blythe sized outfits (and some shoes & boots) fit them so they can rack up quite a big wardrobe :) Plus the customization options are really nice.

If your daughter is into the anime aesthetic you could look into Azone Pure Neemo dolls, also Blythe sized but without the huge head and more articulated. They can be pricey though.

If she likes BJDs, Resinsoul has some decent ones for good prices. I almost got Mei before deciding to save up and buy a more expensive doll instead. But there's nothing wrong with a more affordable doll. Especially if you can get the doll a nice faceup. A good artist can make a cheaper doll look like a million bucks. :)

Fall in doll has some really cute sculpts if you want an ABS doll. Otherwise I'd say go for a resin BJD.

My first bjd was a bobobie elfkin. I still miss that little monster. She was fun.
