I love how well you handled transparency. Expressions are nice too!

Arts & Crafts Corral / Re: Is this cheating?
« on: January 14, 2013, 06:06:44 PM »
Definitely not. Using references is never cheating. Everyone hits art block at some point, and sometimes the only way to fix it is by seeing how other people draw! It is always good to experiment with other styles and to draw from reference simply because it helps us see from a different perspective.
It's good that you don't just take the art and say it's yours. If you did, it would be a problem. But since you are just doing it for practice, there is no problem with it! And it certainly doesn't make you cheap. You will find where you lie with your artwork sooner or later and drawing in your own way will come back to you. Sometimes we just need a little push.

Generally, when I have hit a block in my artwork, I look at all the artists who inspire me and just observe what they have done. Look at the way they do their lines, try to color in their style. And not because I want to copy them, but just to see if I can learn from it in any way. Sometimes I do and sometimes it's confusing or just doesn't work for me and I go back to my own ways!

Pony Corral / Re: Show me your favorite blue pony!
« on: December 27, 2012, 10:52:10 PM »
I don't have one of my own, but my favorite blue pony is definitely Ice Crystal. He is just absolutely gorgeous! Unless you consider him more of a mint color, then I would say blue Posey!

I am always bothered when people think that things need an age range. Nothing needs to be stamped with a certain age. I mean think about the fact that everyone here in this community, collects toys made for children. We all enjoy what we do and it makes us incredibly happy! And books are the same way. I see no problem in reading a book made for a younger age group. They can be just as well written and just as well thought out as any "adult book". I think people should always do what makes them happy and stop worrying about whether you are "too old" for something. You are never to old to make yourself smile.

Actually, young adult books are my favorite genre because they are so well written. I don't know what his problem is. I have a whole book club dedicated to reading books made for middle schoolers and high schoolers.

Thanks for all the welcomes!

Diamond - While I did subscribe to Just About Horses for a little while back in the 90s, I never actually got into showing Breyers. Just played with them at first (my older ones are all very worn and a couple "died" aka broke ) and then collected as a teenager.

Salli - Sounds like a fun time I'll have to keep that in mind.

Lobstersnail - I've been a "collector" for as long as I can remember, be it dog and horse figurines, books/magazines, seashells, or even just unusual rocks. These days I collect TV show dvds and comics. Even daydreaming about starting a collection is fun!  :)

Kiwimlp - Yours is probably more complete than mine is though! That is IF my mom didn't give it away!

I am a big collector as well. Of everything. My biggest collection being buttons. They don't take up much space so it's easy for them to multiply hahaha.  :yikes:

Hi and welcome! I am from Oregon as well. I can't wait for you to start collecting. It's always a joy to start a new collection of something you love.

Oh my goodness I absolutely love these! And I have to say, I am incredibly picky about customs.
All the colors work well together and I am super impressed with the fact that they aren't just detailed, but that you clearly spend a lot of time on them!

Bravo!
