POTD 3/3/2020 Gem Blossom & Crystal Lace

I have Gem Blossom! This one was a childhood pony <3 As you can see by her frizzy hair, she's been very loved.

I have both! Gem Blossom was actually a "childhood" pony that my sisters got as a gift...she was given a mohawk and a screw in her head by a destructive 7 year old me. I feel bad about it still, so seeing her kind of makes me sad.  I'll have to find her body someday and give her a proper fixing-up. I did end up getting another one from a lot or something.

Wait, they were sold together? That is super bizarre! Were they sold in the same box or separate boxes taped together like some G3s were? I got Gem Blossom for Christmas from my dad's mother when I was really young, but she was completely solo. I never even knew about Crystal Lace until I thrifted her a couple years ago!

If they came in separate boxes taped together, though, that'd make sense! My dad's mother probably gave Crystal Lace to my cousin, then, she's only a year or two older than me so it would have made sense for the time.

(Also, funny story about Gem Blossom- when I got her I was so excited I ripped her box open and totally forgot to look at her name! I didn't know you could look ponies up online at the time, I was never a computer kid when I was young, so I would just make up names for ponies I didn't know. I called her Jewel Blossom! I was really surprised how close I was when I found out years later, lol!)

I definitely have a separate box for my Crystal Lace that looks like a US box (Euro ones tend to be multilingual) and so I suspect they were taped together.

I have only one Crystal Lace, but at least three Gem Blossoms. Gem Blossom was one of those ponies that seemed to pop up in every "plus bonus ponies!!" promo that year, so even though I never purposefully bought any G3 more than once, I ended up with several of her through happenstance. I think I even ended up keeping her normal, single release MIB because there was no point in having yet another loose one around.

They weren't only sold together! At the time, Walmart was sort of notorious for cello-wrapping single ponies together into "bonus" packs to move stock faster, so I wouldn't be surprised if something along those lines happened to Crystal Lace and Gem Blossom. (Or really any pony and Gem Blossom! The girl got around! ) I definitely bought mine separately though, so your Jewel Blossom probably isn't missing her long-lost set mate.

I have Gem Blossom, definitely one of my favorite G3s.  I just love the pose and color scheme!  But for some reason i always thought of her as a boy in my mind?

I have Crystal Lace (got her in a lot when I first started properly collecting), Gem Blossom's new to me! She's kinda boring, I wouldn't go out of my way to get her. She's okay, just doesn't really stand out.

One thing I forgot to mention is that Gem Blossom has an interesting variant with naturally curly hair and darker, purpler symbol paint.

Yeah, you can still see the bare bones of what the site used to be, but next to nothing was saved database-wise. Like a lovely reference book with nothing but blank pages between its covers. Such a pity.

The curly is really pretty. Never saw that before.

Ah that is so cool! Variant Gem Blossom's curly hair suits her really well!
