I'm actually a little sad that swap has been changed to less cards and post cards. I mean I'm still excited, but I much prefer to get greeting cards because you can hang them on things. And I don't think I have seen a holiday post card in my life. Buying them may be kind of hard. I mean I guess I can make them, but I'm not exactly crafty.

Lemme see just stuff about me. I'm almost 30 (eep) and recently I taught English (so I love literature and books especially classics) for 9th and 11th grade. Right now I'm a substitute and applying for my MSE (library media or maybe reading specialist still deciding). I live on a farm and have four horses (well almost three gonna get rid of one). Lemme see I live on the edge of a big family farm. I'm from an area of Arkansas where most of it consists of farms and fields. My family raises beef cattle and on and off again breeding paint horses.
As for myself I don't get to ride much anymore when I was a kid and do competitions I have a few hobbies. I ride when I have spare time (western), belly dance or hike. I really like animals and have two dogs. I collect Alice in Wonderland items and multiple copies of the book. I love tattoos and have tons and I also collect model horses.

Your winter holiday? I don't have a particular holiday during winter I adore. I mostly love the weather and the sense of spending time with family and friends that isn't as typical in the summer.
I might be jumping the gun here but anyone know of any good postcard templates or sites? Last year I made cards through photos and Walmart template ect. Guess this one will be different. :lookround:
That's not a stupid question at all! Post cards (or postcards) are just one smaller (maybe 12cm by 17cm) piece of stiff paper, usually with a picture on the front and a small area to write on on the back. You don't mail them inside an envelope.
Greeting cards are usually a folded, slightly larger stiff piece of paper with a picture on the front and writing inside, and sent inside an envelope. Post cards are less expensive to mail, usually, and kind of like sending a short friendly note. Greeting cards are a little more formal and fancy and can be pretty elaborate.
Those aren't formal definitions but I hope that helps.

The reason for this is the po put a large sticker on the back of the card. If any written address is in those zones it may never get delivered, because it may be covered up by the post office. I got post cards with a sticker and stamps cover a side and the bottom of the address side of the card. Two of my post cards never got to the members so I had to resend. Post cards are small and easily lost in the shuffle. So Loa is right for everyone to be prepared for a missing card..especially with these small cards. Also they go thru a sorting machine and one of my cards was weeks lated due to the postal code getting ripped off. I just thought I would share this information. We had lots of fun. We celebrate a combination. We decorate during Halloween and leave it up until Christmas. We look at it as one long Holiday.

Yea I just noticed that they must have changed this with the postal changes in the USA. A year or two ago we had a different post card rate from the first class envelope rate, but it appears that is not the case anymore. So that is wonderful news!!
Alright I'm inclined to ask, even though I'm pretty sure that this is a stupid question: What's a forever stamp?Ohh that's not a dumb question :]. Forever stamps are USPS stamps that can be used to ship things like letters, cards, and other things in small envelopes no matter what the postal rate is. So for example, a forever stamp costs $0.46 today, but if they up it to $0.50 next year, I can still use my $0.46 forever stamps and not have to pay extra. Does that make sense?

You can cut off the back page of a greeting card and draw a line down the middle of the blank side and VIOLA! Instant postcard! It may be a tad more expensive than the little normal ones, but they make great postcards. If you get the right kind of image that can be trimmed, you can even cut them down to normal post-card size. Just make sure the image on the front isn't embossed into the paper. Also, you can make blank cards by cutting up a white piece of posterboard or heavy cardstock and again, just draw a line down the middle of the back. Make sure to leave a space for postage and a space along the bottom for the post office to mark it with a bar code.
I'm going to apologize in advance to my partners-- I cannot draw to save my life so all of my cards will be store bought :yikes:

Hmm...maybe I'll buy some cards, then draw some ponies and cut them out and glue them on there. xD A bit time saving and they can see a bit of the various sights of my area.this is exactly what I planned (with plan B being printing ponies)! for at least one of my partners (if I find the perfect card I imagined for the base), but now I'm leaning towards using the idea for more, or all of them. if you don't have time or can't draw, it seems to offer so nice ways of personalization, not only pony-wise, but also regarding the other interests your partners have.

There have been some pretty awesome ideas here. I'm considering using some of these tactics if I don't have much luck finding neat postcards. :D

Partners, I have some stamps that feature a scene from the American Civil War on them. I know warfare can be a sensitive subject, so would you be okay if I used one? It's not gore-y or graphic. Also, will be using the stamp on an envelope, so it will not be stuck to your postcard.

another question! :DMy favorite things at our Christmas meal are the ham, black olives, deviled eggs, and fruit salad. My grandma used to make carrot cake which was DELICIOUS! i'm now freaking out a little, the card in mind for one of my partners cant be done as a postcard so its gonna have to come as a normal card, I don't *want* to cut it in half just so as its a postcard, so I kinda think it'll be coming in an envelope. I really wanted to stick to 'the rules' with this being postcards NOT actualy greeting cards as such, but I cant see any other way around it :yikes: so I hope that'll be ok...

Hey guys.
So yesterday while we were at the vet opthamologist, Sheldon had a seizure. We took him to vet neuro who then told us to take him to emergency care to see how he'd do overnight.
He ended up having 5 or 6 seizures last night. Valium didn't help, Phenobartbitol didn't help, so the vet gave him propophal to sedate him until we could get there and say goodbye.
He was let go this morning at about 4:30am. We were with him and held him.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I got the day off to just process and grieve. I'm not sure how much crying someone can do. But we're doing okay

The way that I send my pics in a PM is by going into another thread and selecting the photo from my photobucket, clicking on the link to copy it and then go into my PM and paste that link, that seems to work for me ;)
I'm sure you could include a link for them to click on, as long as they see them one way or another, should be good to go :)

The way that I send my pics in a PM is by going into another thread and selecting the photo from my photobucket, clicking on the link to copy it and then go into my PM and paste that link, that seems to work for me ;)
I'm sure you could include a link for them to click on, as long as they see them one way or another, should be good to go :)

The U.S. now has global forever stamps. Sending to any foreign country is the same now, apparently. They cost $1.10.

Anyone that does not submit a photo of their ready-to-mail postcards for the check-in will be dropped from the swap (and appropriate feedback will be left). That means you will not be sent your address list if you don't submit a check-in, and you will not be included on any other address lists (you will not receive any cards from the swap).
The secret swap word is cooper. This is not the same one as the other holiday swaps, please make sure you're sending the right one.

Me too! I've written on them with names and little notes to each of my partners with postcards selected specifically for them and the interests they had (hopefully I got them right). I've an extra card but I'm not sure any new partners would like it but may be able to find one locally.
If I do get new partners, can I still get the addresses for my old partners? I'll still send them the postcards since they're written up with postage already on them.

yay!! actually i'm going to the post office tomorrow too so i might as well mail mine out. Canada Post suggests mailing holiday cards by Dec 6th to Europe to ensure they arrive on time and for the USA it's by dec 13th but I think i'll just mail them all tomorrow or wednesday to make sure they're all out in time :)
Cards are addressed & ready to go! A couple of them I may get hand-cancelled and then will send them in envelopes - they're from the 1920s, so I want to make sure they hold up and get to the right people :)

I agree about the stamps! I addressed my post cards, the giant globe stamps almost didn't fit in the space that was left >_<
Ok, finally got my cards mailed today. I wimped out in this cold, -35 with the wind chill and a 'car-cicle' made me not want to even walk to the mailbox. Sorry, but they're away!

As for cards, thank you Navi! My hubby and I spent this whole weekend unpacking and cleaning and setting up animals so when I went up and checked the mail and got your card is was a nice break from everything going on. :3 The message of "hope your move went well" gave me that super warm awesome feeling inside and was just what I needed as a pick-me-up to get everything done. What an awesome thing to get as your first piece f mail into a new home. *hugs*

Lastly from Eldarwen in Finland a gorgeous snow (and glitter!) covered rural scene with a Christmas greeting in Finnish. It has a cute squirrel on the back and more fim stickers. I also loved the Christmas stamp on the envelope. :biggrin:

Yep. I designed the postcard from one of my oil paintings, then had them printed. I had them done earlier this year before I even knew about the swap. I have sold a few so far, and I am hoping to sell more at giftshops and art shows.I got 4 of 5 cards now! your card made me so very happy especially because yesterday was overall a bad mail day for me. the reason why I didn't post about the card's arrival yesterday is that I also received dolly mail, and the package arrived torn and broken :( a piece is even missing, I suspect it fell out through the torn hole on the package. the worst thing is that the broken&missing parts item is exactly what I bought the whole set for! had I known the seller is going to send the set in a supermarket ad paper(!), with neither a bubble mailer, nor a single plastic bag covering the fragile plastic contents (the latter could have at least saved the now missing part - and the still present parts from getting dark stains from the paper), I would have happily paid some extra for a better packaging. so I spent yesterday afternoon/night and today morning at the post office, filing a claim, but the (otherwise very kind and helpful) ladies told me I am not very likely to get any compensation, as the problem is clearly caused by the recklessness of the seller. I don't really know yet what I should say to the seller - I already told her what happened, and about the claim, but she's saying it has never happened to her before, and she always sends stuff this way (oh my! :shocked: ). she offered to send the money back, and first I wanted to write her to wait until the claim is processed, but now that I think about it (and taking into consideration that I am not likely to get back my money from the post, for totally understandable reasons), I am thinking I should just claim my money back from the seller - even if I do get some money from the post in the end, what happened is the seller's fault, and she should learn never to do this again in the future, "never happened to her before" or not.
I think only 2 of mine have been received :huh: I've received 1 so far -_- I'm surprised that my other partners haven't received theirs yet :blink: I really hope none of them get lost.

I love the old card with the landscape - in fact, I'd love to go there! that plain, and those white rocks! when I looked at them I was sure they must contain some fossils - and now that I looked the location up I found out they indeed do!
also, it's interesting to see that all the new pictures show the lighthouse down, in the water, where in your card it is up on the top of the rocks. may it be that since your pic was taken the old lighthouse was destroyed, as the water eroded the rocks, and they have re-bulit it on its original location? I must go and look up more info on this :satisfied:

It seems to me that it must have been sitting on a shelf somewhere totally unnoticed. :/ I've had missing packages show up late before, but they were always in terrible condition, like they had been sent all over the place. This one was totally fine! So strange.I just received my last card last night! I hope its replacement hadn't already been sent out. It was in my mailbox alongside a package that had been mailed back in June and marked as lost long ago, so I'm guessing the post office had some kind of cleaning project going on.

We had a similar experience, in which a box my grandparents shipped from Arizona went all the way down to Puerto Rico before coming back up to Idaho. O___o Evidently it wanted a vacation.
Anyways, guess what! The last cards came - both the original and make-up ones from aienhime, which are absolutely gorgeous, thank you - and from someone else who I think signed their real name instead of their username. ^^; You know who you are, thank you! I'm sorry to hear that your handmade one went missing, it's awful when that happens. ;__; But, considering that we had some other mail that showed up late your card might make an appearance, too.

I am happy that the card is arrived (the card was 1 month on there way to you , my cards where mailed out on december 5th )

It's crazy how many people got their original and replacement at the same time, despite mailing weeks apart. It's like the post offices went "oh, they are getting more mail, guess we'd better deliver it now" :rolleyes:
