Nope. Outside of my quest to find the weirdest dating sim ever made, I'm not really interested in romance.

She's interesting... that name can't help but remind me of certain late night dating site ads though

Those specks sort of look like the mysterious white dots that have occasionally appeared on my things (for instance, on old origami folded ages ago and left untouched on a shelf for a long time.) I can sometimes scrape them off with a thumbnail. I don't know what they are or where they come from.

« on: June 30, 2017, 04:07:20 AM »
I understand why they exist, but not why they're suddenly a fad among people who don't need them. Especially since I didn't see them around before, even in contexts where they'd actually be relevant. I have a tendency to fiddle with whatever's near me, and when I realized that the only way to get that under control would be to get items specifically for that purpose, I looked at a few blogs specifically about fidget toys so I'd know what's available. I saw pretty much no spinners there. And now they're suddenly everywhere? It's weird.

I have one lying around somewhere but I'll probably never use it. I prefer Tangles and Fash'ems (which are pretty much silent).

I haven't considered myself a brony in a long time, not that it's the actual point here.

When I am buying ponies in store, I have no shame. The only thing I was ever embarrassed to be buying was a Barbie movie. It's bad enough that I have to keep my gender a secret when I leave the house (I'm trans and don't pass at all, so as frustrating as it is my main option is pretending to be a woman regardless of my actual identity) - I'm not lying about anything else about myself. Buying ponies isn't a big deal, especially when the people around you don't know you're a dude. Plus when I'm out shopping, I'm usually with another member of my family and the main thing we're trying to do that day is buy food and various other important things for everyone in the house. For all the people around us know, the ponies and such could be for a kid.

It makes me sad to think that there were people who grew up without any ponies at all. Kittywhiskers, your story is heart rending. I can just picture this poor little one yearning for ponies to play with; it must have been so hard and I am so sorry.

When I said I liked ponies as a kid, I just meant the actual animal (and I just went back and edited my post to make this more clear). I was barely aware of My Little Pony at the time - my dad's insisting that the fakies were MLP was actually the main reason I even knew about the franchise at all before I started seeing ads for some oddball G3s like Sweet Steps when I was 9 or 10. The ones I saw in the ads weren't that appealing, but I had the vague feeling there were probably other ones out there that I'd like.

Wow Kittywhiskers that's so sad.  I hope you are making up for lost pony time now.
Pretty much, yeah. Now I have probably over 100 ponies from all generations (though I don't really keep track of the number), and I've checked out the shows that went with each generation. I've also tried whatever video games I've been able to get, though they tend not to be any good. My family's fine with my collection, complete with the DVDs from various eras that I have in the living room with the rest of our DVDs (the "pink section", which grows from time to time).

Cold and cloudy. Some days there's frost and fog.

I'm currently huddled under a blanket, because although it doesn't get as cold here as it does in some other places, the people who build houses here in Australia do not seem to understand that winter exists and insulation is a good idea. To be fair, winter pretty much doesn't exist in some parts of the country - but this is not one of them. To quote a recent Facebook comment thread about this: Australia isn't that cold, but Australians are.

Horribly hot... we reached 100 or so yesterday and the ten day forecast is mostly high 90s. We have no air conditioning at all and even in the middle of the night, our house never cools off more than like the 80s... I've never been more desperate to go to the pool in my life but I can't go alone and I've been begging everyone I know and whenever I'm given hope it will happen people flake.  :hot:

Yeah, it gets that hot here in the summer and almost every house I've lived in didn't have air conditioning (family eventually had it added it to this one). It sucks. I'm sorry you're in the same situation.

When I was a kid, I really liked ponies - as in the actual animal. However, I didn't have any actual My Little Ponies. I barely knew those existed. I grew up with money troubles and a dad who had a massive irrational hatred of all things MLP up until I eventually introduced him to Friendship is Magic and he managed to finally accept that My Little Pony is not inherently terrible. (He's a nice person, but sometimes he gets these weird ideas into his head that he refuses to let go of and it's really just easier to pretend to agree with him.)

The closest I got to actual MLP was a pair of fakies I got at the Royal Adelaide Show the one time I went there (which my dad hated from the moment he first saw them. He also insisted they were MLP even though 4-year-old me could tell they weren't. He didn't believe me until a decade later. Gah).

The first generation I was able to get into (thanks dad...) was G4.

Pony Corral / Re: How Did You Start Getting Into Other Gens?
« on: April 08, 2017, 02:16:17 PM »
Not having had much money for toys as a kid, I didn't have any ponies then besides a pair of fakies I have since lost. I couldn't even see interesting ponies, never mind get any; they never aired any of the shows here as far as I was aware, and only ever seemed to run ads for the oddball that is Sweet Steps (and maybe some variant of Pinkie Pie, on rare occasions? I remember knowing her name). I was not fond of Sweet Steps, and even less fond of her ad.

Time passed. I eventually got into watching Friendship is Magic. I got some of the toys once the money situation improved. Then I started seeing photos of some of the ponies from previous generations (thanks mostly to tumblr) and decided some of them looked awesome - especially Night Glider. Then I started buying ponies from other gens, starting with my G3 Rainbowberry.

...And now I'm a bit low on shelf space. Every generation aside from G3.5 and the new look G4s is in my collection, and I plan to get ponies from both of those.

Not really, but I understand where you're coming from. They re-release the same characters too much, often with odd gimmicks in the hopes that will somehow make up for the fact it's still the millionth Pinkie Pie this week, and have a lot of weird-but-fun spinoff lines (buildable ponies, action figures, etc) going on at once.

Aside from Cadence, I'm kind of lacking in the heart pony department, but I'll see what I can do!

Night Glider and Dutch Baby Cat! The one time I saw Night Glider for under 80$, I slept through the auction!  And the one time I found a Dutch Baby Cat that didn't cost a downright insane amount, there was just enough question about what might happen to the economy at the time that I was advised to save my money.

I hadn't played this game in a while and when I got back to it and sat through the update it wanted to do, blah blah blah... my save data was gone! And I don't know what my friend code was so I guess I'm starting over. Good thing I mostly just played minigames anyway.

They're cute, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them.

I'm fine with making G1 customs as long as the pony is actually damaged in some way (and is preferably a very common pony). For instance, if you're going to be rehairing the pony whether you choose to restore or customize, you might as well have some fun with that.
