Cleaning pearlized pony question
« on: November 13, 2016, 09:15:23 AM »
Hi everyone! I lucked out big time yesterday and found a pearlized baby moondancer in a bag of ponies at Value Village ($2.99 for the whole bag yay!). She is in decent shape, no hair trims but she's got something sticky in her hair - I think it might be glitter glue (another pony in the bag has some on her as well). She also has some little marks under her cutie mark.

I have given her a wash in dawn soap but her hair is still sticky. So I'm just wondering any tips on getting her hair clean? What can I use to take the marks off her body without injuring her pearl sheen?

Thanks in advance!  :)

Thats a hard one since you couldnt use acatone on her body. I mean Ive used it for particularly difficult marks very sparingly and carefully but Ive never had a pearlized pony and Id be leary if I did.
For the hair u might want to see if maybe some goo gone might help. Just be careful.
My MiL removes label residue from her prescription bottles (dont ask) by filling them with water and microwaving them for a bit.
I dont think a microwave would be kind to your pony but perhaps a soak in a hot water or even a bit of a boil may work.
Let me know what works, Id like to know.

Thanks! I was thinking about using goo gone. I'll try it and let you know how it works.

A very gentle touch with a Magic Eraser could work on the body if the pearl paint is similar to symbol paint. I've abusively scrubbed over already-damaged symbols/eyes/blush to remove marks and there was no further damage. Even a perfect symbol with a single mark was restored to its former glory by a careful caress with a Magic Eraser, no harm done. I've never had a pearly pony to try it on though. Maybe try it somewhere easy to hide, like the inside edge of a hoof, first?

I'd try dipping just the hair in oxiclean, rinsing it out, then washing with shampoo and conditioning.  And very VERY gently rub at the marks with magic eraser.
