Didn't the original Strawberry Shortcake dolls not have pets? I think they came with pets in a later release.  Custard would be really cute though.

She's between $9.99 and $11.99 depending on your Target.

The original 5 dolls (1979) had flat hands and no pets- just like this one.  They were re-released in 1980 adding the Toddlers with their pets (Hops and Tea Time Turtle) - and then finally in 1981 a bunch of dolls were released with pets.

I do wish they had done the 1981 Strawberry- but I guess the first doll fits in better with the "35th Anniversary" theme and all.

Thanks Galactica I knew about the rag doll. but somehow missed the vinyl doll.  I was surprised when I learned the first dolls had no pets.  I can see both sides, wanting the pets and also wanting it to be a repo of the original no pet Strawberry. I had a Strawberry Shortcake cake for my birthday one year.

yes I also prefer the '81 line with pets though I have both versions, but the flat hands dollies always seem to be lonely ^^

Yes, I think she is definitely well done. And the clothes, I adore them. They didn't take any shortcuts. Can you imagine if we got something like this for ponies?

If anyone is looking, she is not on the doll shelves. She's with the retro fisher price toys and stuff like that. They even have a retro raggedy Ann and Andy.

   

Thanks for the tip on where to look for her. I found one at Target today but would have missed her if I didn't know where to look. I almost missed her anyway because my Target only had 3 dolls and the boxes were smaller than I thought they would be. She was $9.99 at my Target.

I've been wondering if there will be more retro characters beside Strawberry Shortcake herself. I would probably buy all of the characters if they made more.

Oh my goodness, I need to get her.  She is precious!  I have a small vintage SSC collection and this would be the perfect addition!
