This is a really late add to this conversation, but just to put the OP's heart at rest - my sister's ponies came out of storage today, and she has a Curly Locks who looks just like yours - and is also HK.

I have a Flurry with that color hair, and also a Bouquet.     Maybe there were different batches of pink.  Or maybe "fading pink" really did start out that pink!

I had one a while back with super pink hair. Her hair definitely wasn't dyed, since she came from a box of filthy ponies rescued off the curb! Sometimes the pink hair really is just extremely pink.

I agree, I checked mine now, and they are both from Hong Kong! (I have one with the extremely pink stripe and one with the more common soft fading pink).
I will check them more closely later and see if I can detect any other differences in them. I guess it could be just individual difference though.

Some ponies that typically has the fading pink hair are available with that super pink. I hunted some of them down and I still have a few in my collection.. Other than Curly Locks I have Steamer and the slender sister pony, I don't remember her name, she is aqua with pink hair.

The good thing about the super pink is it doesn't fade. At least nowhere near how the fading pink does.
My slender sister pony with super pink hair has been on display for many years, exposed to daylight all the time, and she hasn't changed.

My Steamer came to me from Germany btw. Many of those have mismatched pink hair so the mane is super pink and the tail fading pink or the other way around. I eventually found one that has all super pink.

Ok, here are my two girls! Both are Hong Kong made and the only difference between them (aside from the hair colour) is that the white haired girl is lighter than the extreme pink girl, but that is to be expected really, since her hair has told us she has been exposed to sunlight!

The extreme pink girl though also feels different. Her vinyl is smooth and is really nice to touch. I think that she must have been opened and then never played with to be honest. I haven't given her a spa day yet and her hair is still pretty tame. My poor little white girl on the other hand, when I got her... well, see for yourself!

Yup as has been mentioned its not a China v HK thing its just different hair batches You get it across a lot of different ponies - Steamer is another one it pops up on, likewise Princess Serena of course
