Anyone know of a good website builder out there?
« on: May 28, 2012, 04:52:39 PM »
I've kept my site hosted with my old job for about 4 years now and I've had a couple close scares where I almost lost everything when they transferred ownership so it's past time I find somewhere new to keep my site. I'd heard some great things about hostgator and even signed up with them yesterday, but I'm just feeling very frustrated with their builders so far...I just want to keep the look and feel that I already have without things getting too complicated any suggestions would be welcome and there is a link to my site (worldlydogs) in my siggy. Thanks!

Are you working with a budget?  If you have some $ to play around with, you might want to hire a freelancer for this kinda stuff.  You can still host your site through HostGator, I believe, but get some other hired help to design it.  Check with their policies, and if you want to go that route, I know a couple freelancers who need some work.

There's also some decent software out there if you're interested in DIY.  With the right tools, it might not be so hard.

Hope I was helpful!

I love hostgator. And you could download a template. Have you considered wordpress?

I host with Servage.net (low price, lots of space). I know they have some templates/page builders, you'd have to check them out to see if they are what you want (I do my own coding, so I haven't played with them).

Have you considered free WYSIWYG website builders such as Weebly or Wix?

Since my site is always growing I really need something that I can do myself. It needs to be easy to use just because of the sheer volume of pages I have/need to add.

Babushka - a WYSIWYG would probably work the best, its what I have. I'll see what I can find on the two that you've suggested.

Thanks everyone for your input!

Well, try the Seamonkey web browser. It's the descendent of Netscape Communicator and like Communicator, it comes with a built-in website builder, which is what you're looking for.

That's the only free what-you-see-is-what-you-get website builder I can think of at the top of my head. The only other thing I'm used to doing is prodding up a website from scratch with the HTML language directly using Notepad++.

If you don't mind paying cash, Microsoft has Expression Web, and Adobe has DreamWeaver. I can vouch that DreamWeaver is pretty easy to use for the beginner. Never used Expression Web before, but from what I hear it's the successor to Front Page, and Front Page was pretty easy to use too.
