Customs / Fausticorn, centaur style
« on: December 01, 2016, 01:07:17 PM »
Created this from one of those large talking Cadences, a barbie body, and a bratz head. She is rehaired in Vampires Kiss from Dollyhair. Lots of blood sweat and tears went into this girl. Hope you guys enjoy looking at her as much as I do.

Customs / Shipping, packing, and curls???
« on: June 13, 2014, 08:01:22 AM »
So, I'm getting ready to ship out a batch of customs I made. One of the ponies has curls in her hair and I don't want those to get messed up while in the mail. Does anyone know the best way to do that?

Thanks!!

Customs / Clay clothing advise, please
« on: February 24, 2014, 12:42:10 PM »
Hello, you can probably gather from the title that I'm hoping to get some advice on making clay clothes on an MLP. I'm trying to go with with a flowy type skirt, but I need to put a lot of details for the texture and to make it look like it was stitched together.

Is it best to do the clay work with the pony already on a baking tray, or is there a way to move it safely without messing up the clay?

Is there a trick to getting the folds to fall or do you just let the clay pretty much do it's own thing for that?

I was rolling my clay out to about 1/8 of an inch, is that too thin?

Any other advise or tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

The Dollhouse / Help with Equestria Girls doll.
« on: December 27, 2013, 04:58:49 AM »
Hello. I'm hoping some people have customized the EG dolls and will be able to help me out with this. My daughter got two dolls for x-mas and managed to snap Twilights leg off the ball on the hip. She fell and both her and Twi landed wrong, luckily all my girl got was a small cut and some bruises. I have been trying to get the leg to pop back onto the ball, but the leg is hard plastic and the ball is softer. Has anyone been able to re-attach the EG legs without doing any damage? If so, how is this done?

Thank you and hope you all had a great holiday!

Customs / Help! How to smooth out mod podge?
« on: December 13, 2013, 12:48:38 PM »
I've been working on this custom for about 2 months, the details are not my artistic forte so much sketching has been done, and I decided to seal the base coat color so it wouldn't be as hard to wipe off any mistakes I made with the design color. I know, I still need to be careful about it. After putting on the last layer of mod podge I left her out to dry. Silly forgot to make sure she was up high out of reach of my 3 yr old when nap time was done and my daughter decided to "help" me. Now there are lumpy streaks where she "painted" on the semi-dry mod podge and created lumpy, uneven streaks all up and down the foreleg. Any advice on how to fix this?

Thanks,
Tyr

Customs / Candy Floss, so sweet she'll hurt your teeth
« on: September 11, 2013, 08:16:00 AM »
I give you, Candy Floss. This girlie was rehaired with various shades of pinks that I had lying around. Painted in acrylics and sealed with Mod-Podge, matte on the body and gloss on the eyes. Her hair was then curled and poofed to match her cotton candy cutie mark. Her little hoof mark is a small thing of dental floss. She is for sale, $30 USD, which includes the S&H in the price.

Customs / Packaging question for shipping ponies
« on: May 15, 2012, 11:37:35 AM »
Hey all. I have a quick question since this is the first time I am actually selling something and I want to it right. Sold my first pony (yay!) and I getting ready to package it right now. The box is 6" high and was made so that you could half that. As it is the pony can stand in the box, if I end up halfing it to 3" the pony will be able to lay down. Both ways give me enough room to wrap the pony and make sure it's all padded.

Would it be better to leave it the full 6" height to give more padding or is it better to use a 3" height and give it less possible shifting room? Any advice on this would be very greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Customs / Hoping to see customs with elaborate jewelry
« on: May 04, 2012, 08:55:59 AM »
Yep, title pretty much sums it up. A friend who does jewelry making and I are teaming up to make a pair of ponies. Kinda like friendship bracelets, but as ponies. She was wondering if she could see some of the stuff you guys had done to give her some ideas of what can be done. I might even be able to convert her into a customizer. Yay!

Thanks in advance y'all.

Customs / Capt'n Alvilda Corsair
« on: April 20, 2012, 01:38:02 PM »
Hello everypony. I would like to introduce you to Capt'n Alvilda Corsair. She was hand painted in acrylic paints and sealed with Modpodge. Her hair was a Halloween wig and is very coarse and varies in strand thickness, which is ok since pirates seldom have time to worry about their mane anyway. Her peg leg is made of real wood and leather. The eye patch is made of leather and sinew and her hair is decorated with beads and the occasional braid. She has a rotatable head with an ear ring in each ear.

I am willing to part with her for $40. If you are interested in her please drop me a line and we can discuss everything.

luvs to everyone!

Customs / Arg! My little pirate needs help.
« on: April 15, 2012, 10:50:20 AM »
Hello, hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I recently pulled out a few of my packed customs to finish off some little details. I was missing what I wanted to coat the eyes and finally got it. All the WIP ponies were just fine except for this girl.

She is my little unnamed pirate. After I get her cleaned up a bit I'll get some better pics of her. My hubby made me the eye patch for her, he surprised me with it when I was almost done with her. It's made from real leather and artificial sinew.

The sinew has left nice little marks across her head and face. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to keep the sinew from doing this. Would coating the sinew with a layer of Modge Podge work, or is it a lost cause and should I just glue it all to her head. I was really hoping to keep the eye patch as a removable accessory though.

Customs / What do you do when...
« on: March 26, 2012, 01:40:12 PM »
You can't find the right shade of hair you want for your ponies? I need a decent medium blue color, but everything I find is either too bright/dark/purple-ish/etc. I can't find anything that I would be happy with. Is it better to just do the closest color, dye some white hair, or blend a few colors?

The pony in question is going to be a gift for my father-in-law since he is helping us move across the country. I have the sketch and everything else I need to get it done other than the darn hair.

Thanks for any input guys.

Customs / Critique on a newbies customs please...Kinda pic heavy
« on: March 20, 2012, 09:06:03 PM »
Hello everyone. I am new here and this is my first "showing off" for some of my customs. Yes, I realize they are no where near the quality that some of you amazing artists are. I'm looking for a little critique on how to achieve the actual look I wanted versus the look I got on some of these guys. I'd appreciate any and all friendly criticism. Thanks for looking!

Cow Fish
My very first custom. She was a day too late for a contest that was being run on another site, but she made me realize how much fun/annoying making customs are. I was reaching a bit beyond my skills on this one, as I often do when I try something new, but overall I'm happy with her. I had a bit of a problem getting the sculpy smooth as I was afraid sanding would ruin the plastic pony. The membranes are actual pop/soda bottle plastic that I cut and somehow shaped to fit. Superglue makes pop bottle plastic go cloudy so I will not be using that again. If anyone knows of something that can be used to make transparent or translucent membranes for fins or wings I'd love to hear it.

And in her new home.

Echwas
He was originally supposed to be Sleipnir, Odin's 8 legged horse. After painting him white I saw how bad the sculpy job was. He was created from butchering two baits and fitting the legs together. He does have 8 legs, 4 in front and 4 in back. Add in a horrible black Halloween wig, hair was good for this but not for a "nice" looking pony, and some deeper mythology research and Echwas was born. He was actually a 6th century horse god of nightmares which in later myths basically became Sleipnir.

Snow Cloud
The whole inspiration for her came from her hair. It was a type of yarn my mom had that was very...stringy? It was two very thin pieces wrapped with a silver strand to create the yarn. After the new paint job I discovered my knack for shoving way too much "hair" into a pony. Her tail and mane are both very full, partially due to the amount I put in her as well as the crimped strands of yarn stuff. Sadly, her hair is slowly becoming flat. If anyone has any ideas how to fluff it back up I'd love to hear them.

Introductions / Hello everyone
« on: March 18, 2012, 02:42:25 PM »
Hello, as you can see my name is Tyrsalc, but feel free to just call me Tyr. I found this wonderful site while looking for some tutorials on customizing MLPs. I ended up stalking the forum as a guest until I saw the custom swap threads, which I just find nifty as all heck. So far I have a small collection of custom MLPs (4) that I have completed and I hope with the help of the other much more experienced customizers out there I can add to my little collection and learn better methods than I am currently using.

Umm, honestly not sure what all else to say.

Thank you. *huggles*
