Pony Corral / Re: Why though???
« on: April 17, 2018, 07:15:36 AM »
My mum would put new pony acquisitions (which were always secondhand) in the washing machine before she let me play with them. Also, my ponies spent A LOT of time in the bath. Strangely, there is actually very little tail rust in my childhood herd.

I don't actually remember, but probably Tex. As a child I had four: Tex, MB Lighting, Daddy Apple Delight and Baby Brother Bright Bouquet. I literally don't remember which I got first. The first boy I got when I started collecting again was Steamer.

I wish most of mine weren't in storage, because then I could share more... But I got High Flyer the other day and she is hands-down one of the loveliest ponies I've ever seen. Her colour scheme is gorgeous, her pose is so dainty and just... argh.

My unpopular pony opinions - I LOVE the collectors pose! I think it is a very sweet and soulful pose (if that makes sense!)

When I was a child I felt the collector's pose was sort of droppy and so all the collector pose ponies I had were Grandma Ponies.

Re the snipe vs the proxy bid. Ultimately it doesn't matter which method you use if you are putting in the max you want to pay whenever you bid. If the auction goes above your bid then you should bow out really.

I am not a fan of automatic snipe programs. I often bid a little before the end and then turn the PC off and go do something else so I don't get caught in a bidding war. If I win I do, if not, then oh well. I don't do automatic sniping. For me that's more annoying than people bidding ages before the auction ends. I sometimes put low bids on items I want to bid on later so I get proper reminders from ebay, as Ebay fails often to remind me of watchlist items ending, but always reminds me of things I've been outbid on.

Over 20 years of using ebay, though, the people I don't understand are the ones who bid much more than a pony is realistically worth because they get caught up in hype. I don't mind when people bid, not really, but if I see a faded Posey going for £30 for no apparent reason, then I have to wonder about the bidders involved.

It's more that a pony will end up going way way higher than is its actual value because people keep bidding on it before it's actually savvy to do so. If the auction ends in 5 days, wait until the day before or something. Idk, it makes more sense to me, but someone did mention shilling so that could be a likely thing as well.

I refuse to pay more than I think a pony is worth. I ignore plenty of auctions, I guess I'm just a bit salty.

And Puzzlemint and Twinkle Twirl. I think Puzzlemint has that "I want to speak with the manager" haircut.

I get really annoyed when people bid on pony auctions days before they're due to be over. That doesn't help you get the item at all. The important part of bidding is in the last minute.

I used to wear bras with underwires until they all broke, stabbed me in the boob and were useless without them. So I try to find ones without them. I am a 42F or 42G, not entirely sure, and it's hard to find decent bras that are affordable. It was even worse when I lived in Italy, because literally no shop there caters to people who are larger than a medium in any kind of clothing.

Aw man, this looks like so much effort. Goddammit, Hasbro!

Pony Corral / Re: Did you have any rare ponies as a kid?
« on: March 11, 2018, 04:00:59 AM »
In my childhood herd I had Mountain Boy Lightning, Baby Milky Way and Baby Sweetberry (I have no idea where my parents got them from, because they were my Christmas present one year along with the kitchen?), Baby Ruby and Baby Sapphire and Bobbie, who I found in a charity shop (I thought she was a fakie so I scrawled on her in felt tip pen which bled into the rubbery vinyl). I also had Gypsy, Hopscotch and Honeycomb but they've never registered as rare or sought-after to me.

I got my first pony so long ago when I was so young, I literally don't remember who it was. I feel like it was Peachy though. I absolutely started with G1s in the early 90s when they were actually still being sold in shops (I distinctly remember being in a toy shop with my mother at about 3? and seeing the roller skating ponies on sale) and that's how I got my Baby Sapphire and Baby Ruby. I remember opening them new in a KFC in Folkestone. All the rest of my ponies were secondhand, and I've kept the 70-odd I had as a child (barring some replacements such as Wind Whistler and Majesty) and my G2s, they've crossed a continent twice and I'm never, ever letting them go. They're stupidly important to me.

Pony Corral / "All About" Ponies Question
« on: March 11, 2018, 03:25:44 AM »
Has anyone removed the ridiculous scene on the side? It's a different texture to the usual paint, can it even BE removed? I'm hesitant to touch it myself before confirming it can be done, I don't want to ruin my Soarin.

I think Hasbro is holding serve right now.  That's the primary strategy.  They're depending on consumer goods right now which can carry what's left of G4 to its conclusion.  And, frankly, Hasbro has become a rather lazy company.  Developing new characters would mean work, and they figure they can get away with this.  We will see if that's the case.

The big two toy companies (Mattel and Hasbro) have become INCREDIBLY lazy in the last few years.

The Dollhouse / Wanted: AA Made to Move Rock Climber
« on: February 09, 2018, 03:11:19 AM »
Hey everyone!

I just got off the phone to the UK Mattel helpline and they said they have no intention of bringing the African-American Rock Climber girl to the UK in the forseeable future. I wondered if someone could find her for me? I'd be ever so grateful! She's a Walmart exclusive, as far as I'm aware.

- Vampire Reviews (reviews of vampire media)
- Dollightful
- MyFroggyStuff
- Cayleigh Elise
- The Dom
- Hbomberguy (very funny leftwing critique and videogame videos and a seething hatred for Steven Moffat)
- ObsoleteOddity
- Ask A Mortician
- HMS2 - ハムスターのミニチュア工房2(Japanese channel that makes dollhouses and miniatures for them)
- History Buffs (movie reviews pointing out historical innacuracies)
