Title: What is each perfume puff pony supposed to smell like?
Post by: promqueen on December 23, 2020, 06:59:43 PM
I've owned 3 that are still scented.
Dahlia smells the prettiest to me. She is very floral, somewhat sweet. Really smells like a grandma's perfume to me.
Lavender lace smells soapy like laundry detergent to me.
Sweet suds is milder than the two and clean smelling to me.

Does anyone know what each pony is actually supposed to smell like or even their own interpretations? I wish Hasbro had printed the fragrance on the box for each pony!

I can't help with this, but I would like to make a teensy (okay, maybe more than teensy) request for anyone who has these still smelly (or at least remembers what they're supposed to smell like). Next time you're in the perfume, candle, or air freshener aisle at your store, maybe look for dupe scents. That way anyone who wants to smell these can smell something similar. It could even be considered a "restoration" effort of sorts, though I don't know how you'd attach the scent to a pony; I'm not sure if having a chunk of candle inside would be "safe" for a pony... I can think of at least two things that can go wrong with that.

I know that 35th Anniversary Starshine smells exactly like an air freshener my aunt used to use over 15 years ago, but I don't know the name, so it doesn't help. But if you go to, say, Bath and Body Works and can give an exact fragrance name, anyone could go to that store and buy an expensive perfume or lotion or candle that smells just like [insert pony]. On that note, if there's a pony who smells like Warm Vanilla Sugar, that's an emergency situation and I must be notified immediately!

I know I'd appreciate a list of similar or dupe scents of scented ponies. I kinda like sickeningly-sweet scents, so the other scented sets are something I'd really like to smell! Also, the Poof 'n' Puff Perfume Palace had perfume in it- is there a dupe for that? Oh, the possibilities!

Wow, I'm surprised your Perfume Puffs still have a scent to them! I have Dainty Dahlia (who I used to call Dainty Delilah ) and she has no scent whatsoever. I always just assumed they all smelled the same, but DD was the only PP pony I encountered.

I have two Dahlia's they both smell a little 'perfumey' but one is slightly stronger than the other (I think the baitier one smells stronger)

Is the scent with them just in the hair or is it in the plastic like sweetberry ponies? Because my Raspberry Jam still smells Jammy and Boysenberry Pie smells a bit and I read that with them it's in the plastic.

I imagine they smell like their floral namesake.

Is it Vanillaroma? The yellow Christmas tree air freshener? My first car smelled like Vanillaroma because its previous owner used that in there. I have Basic Fun Starshine and the first minute I smelled her, I was immediately transported back to junior year of high school and all the good times I had with my first car before it got wrecked.

Could be, but I can't say either way. I just remember her house, especially her bathroom, smelling like that. I think it may have been one of those plug-in Glades that probably warm up oil or something, since I remember a "warmth" to it; but that doesn't mean that they aren't the same or similar scents. I'll see if they have that scent next time I leave the house (so who knows how long!) and smell it for confirmation (and probably buy it, too; I have the Butterick Starshine pattern and have considered making her smelly)!

I'm pretty sure I know what chemical was used to scent Parasol, though. I don't know what it's called, but it naturally occurs in the human stomach and gives vomit its distinct odor; they use it (in combination with other things) to make strawberry scents! When I first got Parasol, I was expecting her to smell like the early 2000s Strawberry Shortcake scent (I remember sniffing the VHS cases!), but my nose immediately picked up on the pukey notes. When she's been free for a while, she smells alright, but if you take a really good whiff... Yeah, she's my least favorite (though I've never smelled Sunlight because, even though mine were singles, I imagine I was beaten to the Sunlights by those who bought the five-pack)!

Ugh, I'm glad I never got Parasol then! I remember eyeing the 5-pack of rainbow ponies but never pulled the trigger on it because I heard the scented ponies could become discolored due to the chemical used to make them smell. I like how the 80's Strawberry Shortcake smelled (a distant memory, but I'd probably still be nostalgic for it!), but not if it had a stomach acid-flavored undertone.

And this is why strawberry-flavoured anything but strawberries is on my foods I refuse to eat list...

Mine mostly still have scents but it's generally in their hair and you have to smell it pretty carefully to get the whiff.

I am not sure what they specifically smell of in terms of flower/perfume/whatever though. They're just nicer than the sweet scents to me, and that's enough:)

They make scent sprays for fursuits I have been wondering if it would be safe used the hair of these ponies.

I must be odd because Dainty Dahlia has always smelled like mixed spice to me. I remember the others, and opening  them, with Red Roses being closest to what she should, but DD always struck me as weird for her warm spicy scent. She still smells all these years later.

oh, interesting! if it's safe for synthetic fiber fur fabric, it should be ok to go on pony hair, hopefully... that's a cool idea :D
