Brown spots - what's the best treatment?
« on: July 17, 2023, 04:35:01 PM »
So I was looking through my collection, and I noticed some spots on Baby Noddins (which unfortunately, don't show up the best in photos - there's two near her symbol and one behind her eye). They have tiny dark centers with a wide (but much fainter) dark zone around them. visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I've read about these sort of spots on ponies online, but I don't know what causes it or the best solution is to these nowadays. I've got a couple other ponies (and one stamp) that have had similar spots since I got them, but I've never tried treating them.

Then there's this purple fakie, who (in addition to always being very sticky/tacky) had no marks when I first got it ten years ago, but is now on its way to becoming a pinto. I washed it with some dish soap, which only got rid of some of the stickiness and didn't do anything to the marks. I don't know if this is the same problem or not.

I'm afraid these are age marks and there's not much you can do about them. Some people have luck sticking a pin in the center and putting hydrogen peroxide on them. There's a specific tip from MLP Preservation Project but not everyone can find Salon 40 Creme. Do NOT use regular acne cream. That will make things worse.

Unfortunately, this is just something we have to deal with when it comes to ageing ponies. Maybe someday there will be a way of dealing with it.

Thankfully I haven’t these spots on any pony but I got similar spots on some Strawberry Shortcake pets. I tried a bath in natron for a few hours and than sunlight for days and it worked on most of them. The spots definitely got lighter and smaller.

All right. I just wanted to make sure there were no other issues like this condition potentially spreading to other ponies. Thank you very much! ^.^

No, it doesn't spread. I have some dinosaur toys from the 80s and one of them has so many of these spots it's gone from green to brown. I keep it with the rest of them and have for years and none of the others have them.

Hey, just a quick little follow-up: I managed to get some Salon 40 creme and it works very well! I was even able to get rid of some black spots on a petite pony. Thanks again for the tips, everyone.
