I grew up with G2. My cousin who is about 7 years older than I am grew up with G1. I thought the G1 looking so clunky and goofy!
After watching MLP the Movie I replaced the characters with G2 ones when playing (as far as possible). Twinkle Star was my stand in Flutter pony.

Lack of US market I think. Even now Hasbro is pretending G2 doesn't exist

The G2 hate was fairly upsetting for me back in the day

So I'm already happy they are getting more love now

But we got a PC-game with some cute animation (Sun Sparkle's dance studio in particular) and we got a bunch of comics in the EU.

Lost media wise. We'd have to have something pop-up on an auction site in terms of concept art or something like that, who knows.

Any big city will have something going on so also keep Den Bosch, Maastricht and maybe Tilburg and such in mind. Amsterdam is simply packed with partygoers. Groningen I'm not familiar with in terms of fleamarkets though.
My personal best hauls are from the smaller towns though, as the bigger cities have more serious sellers and often also a 'braderie'.

So maybe look at one big city and visit several smaller towns/ dorpen
