I was hoping they wouldn't get to that point :(

A fish needs more room then what is given in the belly--and they are very sensitive creatures.  If a child drops the fishtank on the ground, the fish can die from shock.  Not to mention getting enough air into the water and filtering things out.....

Even candy.  Can you imagine what one of those would look like 5 years down the road in an attic or at value village with candy inside?

I think, if its not edible or living, its an interesting idea...but yeah.

Me too. I was hoping it would be just an online only toy so that less kids would end up with one and harming the fish.

Why would anyone even think of putting a real fish in that, why not just get those ones made of glass with the glass bubble that helps them to float.  Poor fish !!  :enraged: :enraged: :enraged:

When I first saw the words "Teddy Tanks" I thought of some kind of toy that had a teddy bear driving a tank.  Somehow this product makes even less sense.

They never should have been considered suitable for keeping fish in.

Teddy Tanks are great for storing items such as stuff for making crafts. One for buttons. Another for pom poms.
I think the most fun filling for a Teddy Tank is googly eyes in different sizes!

It's kind of hilarious that this toy even got past the planning stage without being trashed, let alone produced and sold! No one I have EVER talked to has thought this was even a remotely good idea.

"Hey, you know what gets gross when wet? Stuffed animals."
"You know what requires constant moisture and produces mold? Fish tanks!"
"Let's put them together!!!
I'll put something here some time

I'm very active in a goldfish-keeping community and it's just as frowned upon there as you guys see it. It's obvious to those who do and don't keep fish that its just not okay.
A betta fish needs at least 5 gallons and a temperature of at least 70°F, while a goldfish which was in one of their commercials requires at least 15 gallons, also filtration, a change of nearly 100% of their water a week, temperature varies depending on the fish.
I could never think of putting my girls who live comfortably in their 50 gallon possibly being squeezed into a teeny tiny teddy bear because its "cute".
I'm pretty sure my big girl would hurt me if I even tried it as an experiment. She knows where I live, after all.

If you want to teach your kids responsibility for a fish, buy them a cheap little 5 gallon tank, a betta fish, some gravel, some plants, tiny heater, and food.
Everything combined will cost you about $35 and your fish won't be miserable.

Even a child can easily care for a betta fish properly if given the proper information, do it right. :(

Why would anyone even think of putting a real fish in that

Because to alot of people, It's JUST a fish.  >_<  Probably the same rejects that thought giving THIS away as a carnival prize was a good idea. That was the water he had in his bag.

I wouldn't mind a Teddy Tank so much if it was marketed as something besides a fish tank. If it was bank or just a storage container that would be okay but I don't like the idea of putting a live fish inside a stuffed animal.

I feel sorry for the fish in your first picture tikibirds. I'm glad he has a good home with you.

I hate how fish are seen as a disposable novelty D:
On another note, I hope Finding Dory won't cause another fish genocide.

*Rages* Because there aren't enough horribly unsuitable tanks being marketed as it is?? I've kept dozens and dozens of bettas over the last several years, so the whole tiny gimmick tank issue always gets me.

I can't imagine putting a living creature in something like that. I just bought a new betta a few days ago-- he was an impulse buy and I don't have a permanent tank set up for him yet, so he's in a 1 1/2 gallon unheated tank for now until I can dig a bigger tank out of the shed and my heater comes in the mail, and even THAT seems tiny and inadequate. My other two are in heated, filtered tanks, a 7 gallon and a 10 gallon, and they're so much happier.

I think a lot of people think their tiny tank setups are fine, because they're the ones the pet stores push for fish like bettas and goldfish, and because their fish survive in them for a while. You don't really notice how inadequate those setups are until you see the behavior change in the same fish when it's moved from a small, unheated bowl to a larger, heated aquarium.

Plus moldy teddy bears, eww
