(snip)
I was going to say the same thing as you and Taffeta. I think someone mixed up "orginal six" as G1 Mane 6 and I agree that there wasn't such a thing in G1. I've been wondering if the "concept six" started about the time the "future six" (Sandbar, Yona etc... appeared in G4. So it seems like someone said "Look, here's six ponies so we'll call them the first Mane 6."
"Concept six" is Twi/AJ/Sparkler (Not Glory like I said before, sorry - good catch Taffeta - though I agree Rarity takes inspiration from both)/Surprise/Posey/Firefly - the six G1 ponies that Lauren Faust took inspiration from when developing the mane 6 for FiM. The brony nick for the collectors is "original six". I'm not sure when they coined that, but concept 6 was around from the get-go. (admittedly I don't actually mind the "original six" moniker too much, it's the whole "original six as main 6 equivalent" concept that kind of bugs me)

Oh gosh, bronysplaining x) I can imagine... I agree, though. There's a difference between "notable" and "iconic"... The Collector Ponies (IMO) are the former, Hasbro seem to think they're the latter. Not to say those six never had their fans before all this new merch, obviously they did, but thinking about the fansites of old... the ponies I saw turn up the most on such sites were more like Firefly, Glory, Applejack, Wind Whistler, the Tales cast... Not so much the collectors. CC was in RaMC and I remember seeing some comic stories with her... and yeah, the fact file with purple Minty etc But I can't think of any other media featuring those six? I'll admit I'm not an expert re: the comics though. But I mean, I like the collectors but they're not exactly what comes to mind when I think "iconic G1 character", you know? I dunno. It's not like I'm complaining about them showing up on merch! Like I said, I'd prefer more of a variety - I *so* wish they'd do some Tales merch, it'd be lovely to see them in this particular art style, since we never had that before. But at the same time I can understand that it's probably easier to just focus on a small group of characters (collectors, rainbows)... I just wish they'd sort out their terminology, I guess. Oh well. Hey-ho. It's annoying but I guess I prefer the "Collector Ponies as Iconic Six Characters" angle to the irritating "Firefly/Glory/Surprise/AJ/Twi/Posey as a squad" thing. Like, at least the Collectors are a set. I know where the so-called "concept six" thing came from, but it always irritates me seeing bronies and G4-only fans act like it's an official thing...

re: gendering, I assumed they worded it like that because the makeup itself is aimed at women? I agree though... don't see any reason why guys shouldn't be able to use this stuff too if they want to :B No prob LaW It's kind of oddly phrased in general, I had to read it over before I realized what the issue was, at first I parsed it as "Teens and moms who grew up with the mane six" instead of those being separate statements. I agree the collector ponies are a memorable/notable set (for being released a few times *and* for being the ones that started it all... after My Pretty Pony, I mean ), but I just don't like them being presented as the G1 equivalent to the core 7/main 6/(do the G5 mains have a catchy nickname?). G1 doesn't _have_ a set of core/main chars like that, and even if it did, it wouldn't be those six x) I mean, I get it, I guess. It's easier for marketing if they stick to a certain set of characters and I guess it sounds better if they push this false narrative of them being "the iconic well-loved and memorable main characters!!". I can see that that's easier to pitch than "Well, we didn't really focus on a specific set of characters back then, but we've decided to focus on this particular set right now, and G1 fans aren't really picky anyway*". I can understand the logic behind statements like these, but that doesn't mean I have to like it (Although looking at the promo photo again, they've got other characters as well as the collectors anyway... So it's still kind of weird thing to specify like this anyway. Something like "to moms that grew up with the 80s ponies" would make more sense here, surely?) (*obviously this is a generalization!! but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say... G1 fans are more likely to react like "Oh cool, don't see a lot of merch of [random obscure pony]" whereas I feel like if they made... for example, a t-shirt of oh idk, G4 Junebug, the biggest reaction would be like "That's an odd choice" at the least and "WTH why didn't they pick an ACTUAL character?" at most. Does that make sense?)

Yeah, my guess is they meant "original six" (i.e. G4 fans' term for the collector ponies), got their wires crossed and wound up with "mane six" instead. Which doesn't bug me so much as the notion that a) G1 had a 'core' set of characters and b) said core set was the collectors. Anyway, I'm not a make-up person, but it's always nice to see more retro merch.

Speaking of "can't see": at the very least these new Skulltimate boxes give you a small peek at the doll's face inside. You gotta look close but behind the grid/fencing/whatever you can see if the doll might be wonky or not. This had been my biggest gripe with the old packaging, that there was no way to see the doll.
About time they fixed that!!! I still can't believe the price they ask for these when you can't even SEE the doll. At least have her face visible. Eye-wonk aside, how are you meant to know if you like her or not if all you have to go off is the drawing on the box?! I mean, I know you can just google for photos, but you shouldn't have to x)

Oooh how exciting!! I wonder if they'll take any inspiration from the old MH anime?
I'll probably be able to resist Draculaura, but if they make a Bishoujo Clawdeen, my wallet might be in trouble X_X

Omg those sharks have made my day They're so silly looking! I've seen the "firemen that don't put out fires" thing before, I think it's because firemen are apparently popular with little kids, but fires are usually a bit too serious for these kind of series? It amuses me.

Thanks again for all of this, Rhaegar, and Greeby for your site too Different vers of MLP - All of the multi-part MLP n Friends eps originally aired with recaps at the start and ended with a "To Be Continued" card. All of these (except one TBC, I'm blanking on which ep it's in off the top of my head though) were cut for all home video releases, except the Australian DVDs which do have most (but not all) of them intact. Oddly the end of "The Magic Coins" part 4 was snipped for DVDs too, cutting off the end of the "Friends" song. And of course there's the songs cut from the original two specials, and the whole Glass Princess "Hurry" thing. They're the only version differences I know about re: MLP though. That's really interesting about that Jem ep, thanks for sharing that too! I wish we had something like that for (MLP) Tambelon part 3, I'm sure they cut a song from that one...

I didn't notice Posey's horn either, good catch Aria!
I wondered if it was a slightly miscoloured earth Firefly (or her wings are hidden under the dress??) too.
