name tweaks...

My girls are just playing behind me (with their ponies, of course!), and I have to smile to myself when I hear them saying some of the ponies names out loud. Some names get shortened or morphed slightly due to either language development or parent in-jokes... and a few names have become:


Pineapple Paradise - Pineapple Rice
Avalonia - Avi
Fluttershy - Butterbye




But certainly the best one (and the one I just heard and which cracks me up every time - AND I should add is something my husband is responsible for) is:


Pinkie Pie. Officially morphed into: Stinky Pie

Have your kids, rellies, or even yourselves come up with alternate names for your ponies?

Man, poor Pinkie!    I never gave them different names or shortened/nicknames.  I liked their real names just fine.  and...those were their names!

I love how your children call Fluttershy "Butterbye"! Kids are so cute when they can't pronounce words properly xD (my 2 1/2-year-old niece calls our dogs Coco and Miki "Toto" and "Fofo," respectively).

When I was a little I never played with ponies, but a lot of my toys came pre-named. Toy-manufacturer names always seemed downright silly and unimaginative, so I always gave my toys exotic names from mythology or something that sounded cool. For example, my "Socks" cat plush became "Bastet" and I had a G.I. Joe named "Loki" who would always show up to mess with everyone and blow up my lego cities.

Yeah, this isn't so much tweeking as ignoring the names, but, well...

I'm sure if I had ponies I would have changed the names because I felt my toys deserved self-respect and not silly names like "Bubblefish" or "Tippytoes". I remember my friend having those two ponies and it made me cringe every time she said their names. She and I got in a fight or two about it because I told her her ponies were stupid.

I use Stinky Pie all the time. Sometimes just Pinkie Dumb though.

When I got frustrated with styling my FS Twilight's hair, I kept calling her Twilight Flopple in my mind. (From the Bridle Gossip episode)
Her hair seems to have some weird manufacturing issue where no matter what I do or how many times I wash it, it's strangely oily and takes on absolutely no shape no matter what.

All of my childhood ponies were hand-me-downs from my sister so I never really knew their real names. I recall when I came to the arena for the first time it blew my mind that my ponies even had real names.  I can't recall most of them, but a few stuck with me. Majesty was Lord Nevermore, Moondancer was Lady Redwine. (because of her hair color.) Partytime was glitter-eyes and butterscotch was Milly.
