Pony Corral / Foam Board Pony Risers Tutorial Now on Instructables!
« on: March 01, 2021, 03:15:09 PM »
Hello everyone!  :)

Some of you may recall my Riser Tutorial from a few years back and even as far back as the old Arena.

I've made a new version over on Instructables and entered it into the First Time Author contest: New Riser Tutorial. Please check it out and maybe vote for it if you like it. If you end up making a set I'd love to see them!

P.S. If this is not allowed please let me know and I'll remove or revise accordingly.

I like her hair a lot. I think it suits her pose very well.

Thanks!  ^.^

I love her hair and her tail, so poofy! the ribbon really ties it together

Thank you! I always feel compelled to make sure all my G1s have a ribbon

Yes!

I love her

Aw, thank you so much!

What a sweetheart! I love her new look, she looks much happier! And soft enough to snuggle!

Thank you! Her hair is so very soft, much more so than I expected from the feel of the yarn before it was brushed out  :inlove:

Thank you! I live in the southern US so that's fitting

Oh she's  b e a u t i f u l ! :good: How did you style that forelock so perfectly?
Thank you so much! The nylon I used is high temperature tolerant so I used a 1" curling iron on a low setting. It was still long when I curled it so I was able to drape it over the curling iron and hold onto the ends to hold it against the iron. I touched it every few seconds to check it and once it was heated all the way through I removed the iron and held the hair in place for a few seconds while it cooled. Once it had set I trimmed it to forelock length.

She's gorgeous, lovely work! I love your idea of making multiple versions of AJ, she's such a great pony :)
Thanks! I'm hoping she'll be the first of many  :)

She looks lovely with that hair.  I think it looks perfect - a nice mix of fluffy and silky.  Nice work on her hoof, too.  I probably would have given up, it looks so stained in the before picture, but it turned out really well, its not that noticeable at all.
Thank you ^.^ It took months to get her to that point. Luckily I took before pictures or I may have given up, the change is so gradual it's hard to tell any progress is being made.

Great job on her forehooves!!! And lovely hair xxx
Thanks!  :)

Wow, she's beautiful, poofy hair really suits her! And good job removing those stains!
Thank you so much! I love your Ice Crystal family

She looks really nice! Pretty Applejack.
Thank you so much!

She looks lovely! I like the nylon forelock with the poof. Great job!
Thank you! That was probably the hardest part, I was so scared to cut it short

She is absolutely STUNNING
Thank you!  :)

pretty and soft
Thank you! Her hair is soothing to stroke, it's so soft

That's quite cute!
Thanks!  ^.^

Looks amazing! I wonder if I ever did something like this, if I could get some of those scent things to put in it. An applejack that smells like apples or apple pie? Yes please!
Thank you so much! An AJ that smells like apples would be the best thing ever :inlove:

I've always wanted custom Applejacks in different styles: Sweetheart Sister, Twice as Fancy, Big Brother, etc. I decided to do a Perfume Puff first since I could use an existing AJ and avoid painting  :lookround:

This was Applejack before. I bought her off eBay tailless, mohawk'd and with Sharpie stains on her hooves. The sharpie had been applied so thoroughly to her front hooves that it leeched up through the vinyl and was visible on display.

And here she is after. She sunfaded for most of the spring and summer with 20 volume peroxide developer then 40 volume. I wrapped her in a towel with just her hooves poking out and applied the developer. After a certain point it seemed like the black had faded as much as it was going to and the vinyl itself looked like it was starting to fade so I called it done. I rehaired her using Lion Brand Super Bulky yarn in Pittsburgh Yellow. Her forelock is nylon hair in Yellow Submarine from TheDollHairPlanet on Etsy.

She didn't end up with as much floof as I would have liked but I think she turned out nice anyway  ^.^

I just sold my showcase because I had the ponies very close together, wanting to buy another one.
Great collection, I'm glad ^^
Thanks! Good luck with your search for a new cabinet, it makes such a huge difference  ^.^

That's a beautiful cabinet, congrats!

I recently got a black cabinet too and I love it, I think it really makes the ponies pop! I should do something about my main one, though, it's a really boring standard MDF cabinet in a pale colour... doesn't really fit in with any other pieces of furniture I have but at least it keeps the ponies safe from dust

Congrats on your new cabinet! Also, keeping them safe from dust counts for a lot  :)

What a nice cabinet!  Your collection looks so nice on it.   :). Who’s the pony next to Crumpet (the glittery, white adult)?  And who’s the similar looking baby next to them?

Thank you so much! Those are both HQG1C glitter blanks  :)

Great display & I spy HQG1Cs!!!

Thank you! Yes!!! I love HQG1Cs! :)

Back when we still had to fill out customs forms (is that even still a thing?) for shipping out of the country I would always write "toy pony".

Yes, it's a thing, and it has been a thing consistently for the last 2 decades at least.

I was hyperbolically referring to the handwritten carbon copy customs forms which I haven't seen in my post office for many years now. I'm aware customs forms are still a thing :)

Thanks, guys! I'm really excited to finally have them behind glass.

I was a little worried about the black and how it would look with the ponies but I think it works for my space. The walls are purple and the room trim is black so I thought white cabinets would look out of place. I think the black doors kind of act like a frame around a piece of art!

Thanks again for the support! I've been enjoying looking at everyone's displays through the years, you guys really inspired me to finally get this started  ^.^

I've always had to display my ponies on open shelving due to space limitations but now I finally have my first pony cabinets. They're still very much a work in progress, I've only painted 1 of the 4 sections and I'm just putting my ponies in wherever as I get them cleaned up but I'm pretty jazzed with how it looks so far!
