Title: Buyer is asking to cancel order
Post by: skyline on September 12, 2020, 06:27:25 PM
Hmmmm... I wanted to take a poll here and see what people think is the right thing to do in this weird circumstance I find myself in - I'm not sure just yet how I want to proceed. A buyer won a pony out of my eBay auctions this morning after a (very medium sized, but still) bidding war. They paid already, which is great!

Not great: they just messaged me to say that actually they have this pony already, so they want me to cancel the order. My first reaction is to refuse as this isn't exactly my problem and there's no guarantee the auction would go the same way if I relist the item, but is this jerky of me? Acts of grace just aren't really the way eBay works. What would you do in my place?

I would cancel, there's a chance the buyer could file an INAD case in retaliation to get their refund anyway.
I've had two weird orders where someone bought and paid for a pony, then cancelled right away. Confusing.

I would cancel and offer a second chance offer to the other bidder.

Cancel. It's not worth it to deal with flaky people.

oh, how annoying... I've had several instances where I've bought a double by mistake, but I never bothered the seller with it. -_-

I agree, cancel the order and send a "second chance offer" to the second-highest bidder. It's not worth the trouble dealing with people like this.

Thanks everyone! I cancelled. A small annoyance in these horrible times, I guess.

It probably was an honest mistake since the buyer gets nothing out of bidding, paying and then pulling out (unless it's a situation of overspend). I personally would take the mistake myself as a buyer, as it isn't up to the seller to know what their bidders already have or not...but I think you did the right thing. Hope the second offer option was something you could take advantage of and you still get a sale.
