Where to find UK ponies in the wild?
« on: March 22, 2015, 01:26:13 PM »
I've been into no less than 20-35 charity stores throughout Britain in the past year and not a single pony or pony-related item has appeared? Are there any recommended places in the UK to find ponies or UK ponies (I am on a full-out search for my personal grail Honeycomb)? A charity store? a sale? Or any other place in the UK to find ponies in the wild?

I've always had much better luck at pony finding when I go to carboot sales rather than charity shops. Since I started pony collecting, I have not yet been to a carboot that has no ponies. I've found a fair few G1's at them too.

I've never seen a single MLP in a charity shop in the past few years. I've seen one, single fakie. I've only seen a couple of G3s at carboot sales (at one, from one seller), nothing else :( I wonder if many are being thrown out? It seems a lot of charity shops don't have many toys any more  I know when I volunteered in a charity shop that anything that was really dirty got binned because no one wanted to buy filthy stock (most toys I see at carboots are horrifically mucky).
Idly searching for: loose, good condition G4 Blossomforth, Starbeam Twinkle, Plumsweet. TTM Celestia doll's wings Within UK or EU only, please.
Will also take in Pretty Pony Club (UK magazine) fakies.

These days there is very little in charity shops or at carboots that is G1. The reason for this is partly that people are more aware of the value, and partly just the general passage of time. Many people have already cleared out their items from the 80s (it has been 20-30 years after all!)

Occasionally they still pop up, but otherwise you would be looking at specialist shops (in my city there is a vintage toy shop) or ebay.

*Nods* I agree car boots are the best for finding ponies, but you have to go mega early! I learned that last year, I went to a carboot & found Wind Drifter & Apple Jack, I asked the vendor if she had any others & she told me she had a bag full which she had just sold 20 mins beforehand and this was at 9.10am on a Sunday morning!

P.S I do have Honeycomb for sale which I would sell for £4 plus £3.50 postage she needs cleaned & has a little pin dot mold on her legs but she is still pretty white & her hair is lovely. Pm me if interested :)

Yeah carboots always worked out better for me, charity shops I've never had much luck with, since quite a lot of them don't really seem to take toys in much anymore for whatever reason.

I agree car boot sales are a much better bet :) Charity shops dotn tend to offer too many options. Perhaps if you find an old fashioned bring or buy sale, fete or fair you could encounter someone selling things to raise money as well. But if you are looking "in the wild" per se then unfortunately those are your only real options and you really dont encounter much at all this way any more.

I'm the opposite. I've only ever found pony things in charity shops and never in carboot sales.

Two of my best acquisitions ave been a lullabye nursery in it's box for £2 and a Sweetheart Nurse pony for £1 :)

It's not surprising that G1's aren't popping up at the thrifts anymore, but I'm quite baffled about the fact that the G3's are so few too. :/

Same, I sometimes find some fakies but I think in general a lot of charity shops don't really seem to want to take in toys much anymore
