Title: Are Ugg boots worth the money?
Post by: 01mlplover on December 13, 2014, 12:39:47 PM
I've been thinking about saving up for a pair lately but they're are so dang expensive. The ones I'm looking at are $200. And yes I realize it's just a pair of shoes but I'm one of those people that loves to buy shoes. I just don't know if they're actually worth it. And maybe I'm looking in the wrong place for price wise. Does anyone know of a place that sells them cheaper? The pair I want is on Victorias Secret website.

I like Emu and Ugg. :)
Theres a good chance of finding a pair that hasn't even been used, from last season, for a really big discounts on eBay or even Amazon.
You could also wait for holiday sales for places like Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, etc.

I've checked ebay and the ones I want aren't to much cheaper there. I'm either wanting the sequin covered ones or the baileys bow ones with 2 bows on the back. I don't get out to shop much so I'll be buying online for sure. I just need to figure out where to buy them lol.

I have some air walk boots I bought from Payless that I like. I'd prefer that they be authentic Ugg brand anyways. I keep seeing the cardigan style pop up and think they're cute. Anyone famailiar with the style?

Here's my take, I haven't owned my own but I have gotten several pairs for my daughters (second hand on ebay,) and they're about as durable as you can get. You can wash them with woolite once in a blue moon and they should last for years under heavy use. I have had very few pairs of shoes/ boots last more than 3 years or so but Uggs have made it through several kids now so I have to say they were worth it.
I couldn't find a style of Uggs I liked for myself and bought a shearling lined combat boot from Born instead. They were $200, which gave me heart palpitations to pay and caused the lady to go over their return policy carefully but they have been worth every penny. Shoes are one of the few things you should spend a bit more on and your feet don't often change size much so go for it!

I finally picked up a pair when we were in Australia in October (so they should be "real" ones, at least I hope so) and I paid AUD $95 for them.  Worth every penny in my opinion, I love mine. My husband has had a pair for almost 6 years now and they are still going strong!

I'm glad to hear that they are good quality for the money. Makes me want a pair even more now. If I didn't have so many bills Id make them a birthday present to myself lol.

Oooh, glad I decided to look through this thread.  I've been wanting a pair of Ugg's for the longest but wasn't too sure about them.  Glad to hear so many positive things!

I bought a pair of bearpaw boots in college for $40 and I still wear them when it's cold.  They're my favorite boots for after showboarding.  XD  They look like Uggs and 6 years later, they are still in darn good shape.  I don't see any reason to spend the money to get real Uggs with as well as my cheaper pair have lasted.

I personally wouldn't buy a pair due to them being made from sheepskin however if you really want to buy them then it's your money at the end of the day. I did have a knockoff pair once made out of faux materials and they were okay but they eventually wore down on the soles and became unwearab!e.

Isn't it better that they use sheep skin? That way sheep other parts won't get in waisted after people have take the meat and wool. Every part is used and nothing wasted. (yes sounds cruel but better than throwing away)

Worth every penny. If you tread them nice uggs will serve you many years :).

My husband bought me a pair of the Bailey Mini Uggs for my birthday 2 years ago and they still look brand new even after wearing them for 2 years. I absolutely adore them and believe they are certainly worth the money :)

If you are going to buy a pair, make sure they are proper sheep skin and not a faux material, fake ones just don't hold up like the real deal. I understand that some people are against animal products, but sheep skin is from animals bred for their meat, it would be awesome if we could all become vegan, but frankly I like bacon too much.

If you get a genuine pair, totally worth the money. I really want a new pair, I had a proper pair and never updated them, I currently have a faux pair that are crap.

I do hope you don't intend to use them as "winter boots" to wear in snow and slush.   >_<  One of my biggest pet peeves living in Minnesota in the winter is seeing all these young women walking around on campus wearing leggings and Uggs.  Uggs are essentially slippers - they're not meant to be used as rugged outdoor weather boots.  I can understand wearing them in nicer weather for activities like shopping, etc.  But for traveling by foot around slushy, wet city streets/college campuses/etc.?  Absolutely not!  It sort of amuses me that these gals pay $200 for a pair of "boots" only to totally damage and stain them to kingdom come from all the snow, ice, salt and other chemicals used on streets and sidewalks during the winter.

I thought that uggs deform quickly and are bad for posture or feet. Maybe those people I heard it from had fakes? I've recently bought fake ugg slippers from H&M and I love them, though!

I couldn't fathom spending $200 on boots...
Boots don't make it through more then a few winters here, copious amounts of slush and salt...

I don't wear mine in the winter when there is snow, slush or rain. There is no way would want them to get ruined by wearing them in cruddy weather. I believe on their website that it states they aren't for wear in the snow or for extended periods of time. I think they make great spring/fall boots.

I never saw the allure of Uggs...  seemed like overpriced fluff. If you're looking for a REAL winter boot, there's nothing better than Sorel. This is coming from someone who walks outside at -40 and needs her boots 7 months a year. Sorels keep your feet warm and dry, and things like slush and salt don't affect them. My Sorel's are going on 5 years now and still look new.

Yeah, it doesn't seem logical to wear them in the winter anyway.  I don't know anyone who owns a pair who wears them when it starts snowing.

I have a pair of boots for the snow, but I've been wanting a cute, simple pair of boots that won't fall apart easily.  I made the mistake of purchasing a cheap pair of boots that only lasted me one winter, and I only wore them when I went to work. I may look into Bearpaws, though.  From the sounds of it, they're basically the same thing but cheaper (not too cheap, though)?

We keep our house at 60 degrees all winter and with hardwood/tile and linoleum floors it makes good slippers a necessity, cause the floors, they are cold!  That's how I use mine.  Granted I do wear them outside when I take the dog out, but I don't use them for extended tromping through snow, etc.  Also I sprayed the bejeezus out of them with the sealer you can buy with them, works wonderfully!

There are so many other synthetic options that no one had to die for and are not so hard on the wallet.

Because, any way you want to dress it up..  that is exactly what they are, dead skin and wool from an once living breathing animal.

I like to believe that most pony collectors are animal lovers too, so I think you're best option is to look elsewhere for keeping your feet warm and cosy.

Here is a really great video from P!nk about exactly what happens to sheep who are used for making ugg boots..

It may be uncomfortable, so just a warning.

However, the truth is usually quite uncomfortable and this way you and other posters have all the correct information so you can make the best choice for you.

Remember kids, meat is murder.
Tasty, tasty murder.

While yes many animals are slaughtered for their pelts, if you have to kill a sheep in order get its wool, you're doing it wrong!  :haha:

I have a pair of the Bailey Button ones and I love them! They are super comfy and warm. I only wear them in fall/spring and never when it rains or snows! Mine look brand new as I used the sealer spray on them and keep them dry :) They are absolutely worth the money! I got mine as a Christmas gift from my parents xD I have a friend who has the cardigan pair and says they are comfy but nearly as warm as the regular sheepskin ones :)

Well did some research and it turns out mine are fakes! Oh well.  They are Ozwear "Uggs" not the real ones, which is why they were a lot cheaper.  They are still really nice though.

You have to be kidding?

Is the truth so uncomfortable? or inappropriate?!??!

I think if someone asks the question 'should I buy ugg boots' it is entirely appropriate to give them a link to a video about how exactly they are made.

Although, it's nice isn't it.. to go through life with blinker's on and pretend that they came from a factory and no death, pain or torture was involved.  >_<

and while I'm at it... because no doubt I'm going to get warned or banned from this..

Tilas : Ugg boots are sheepskin boots... ie. made from sheep skin, not just wool... pretty hard to give a square meter of that up without a sheep dying..

No, it is completely NOT acceptable or appropriate to post a gruesome video on the forums. There are ways to politely, respectfully, and appropriately share your views/opinions, without resorting to gruesome videos and breaking forum rules.

I posted a very clear warning and it was totally up to any user if they wanted to open it.

And it was not with the intent to show gruesome footage with perverted means, which to which you are aluding. It is just the simple truth of how this product is made which, was being discussed. Its actually just the plain and simple truth.

Because the first questions we ask ourselves with buying an item like this is - is it stylish or will I look silly wearing these outside? or are they worth the money? or how is the quality?.. because thats what marketing firms, companies, retail industries and the governments who support them drive us to think.. not the question we should asking - what do these come from?.. which shows in so many users comments, that we arn't allowed to think the most simple of questions because the answer is, and as you also put it - gruesome. And not many people would want to buy or wear a product which is the result of that.

I don't see how that is any less appropriate than the absurd medical and period questions people are freely allowed to post here.

However, if you want me to be muzzled and keep the inconvenient truth to myself because that is what is comfortable. I don't think this is the place for me anymore.

Posting a warning about a link like that does not make it acceptable to post here. The video was not appropriate for our forum. Period. We are a PG13 site - that is not a video that would be shown on PG13 TV. Again, you are welcome to share your side of the discussion, but you need to do so in a forum-appropriate manner.

Off topic, people are responsible to their decisions. If they wish to inform themselves on a material for fashion products, they're welcome to do it on their own. If we tried to break down every product we used and the ethics behind it, we'd all be paranoid.

On topic, I love my boots. They've lasted me through all sorts of nasty outdoor weather and several cleaners nearby offer to clean them. There's also several waterproofing products available.
My Emu boots were super comfortable as well. The sole is thicker, but I ruined them by washing them as a kid. Stupid Chi, I still own them though. I plan to repair the sole and redye them myself. :)

LOL I agree with you there. Look at normal clothing, much if it is made in factories that employ children, or severely underpay and mistreat their employees. There's reasons that you can get a shirt for $5, when the person making it is only getting $1/day and living in poverty.  I always find it funny how quick people are to scream animal rights but turn a blind eye to human rights. But, I guess that's just part of being privileged 1st world citizens.

I bought my Uggs 3 years ago.  Yes, I live in CA where it doesn't get super cold in the winter, but we do have winter nights that get a bit chilly, and I like wearing them during those times.

I found them NWT on eBay - saved about $50 off retail.

I bought mine at a convention in 1999. The price gave me a start, around $140. However they lasted me through 2003 with very little wear or tear. I lost them after 03 but while I had them it was love. Very comfortable and heaven for my chronically cold feet.
