Title: Curious: how did you choose your user name?

Mine is simply an "alternate" spelling of the sound a froggie makes.  I have collected frogs since before my Hurricane discovered Ponies.  (and really want a Royal Beauty in good condition.)  I got to wondering about other names.  Got my bowl of popcorn, let's hear some stories!!   :chat:

I love stories on how people got their names!
Mine is Monsterelli - Monster + Elli = Monster for Monster High and Elli because thats my name. :)
During the summer I got into Monster High dolls and needed to come up with a neat name for forums & to put a nametag on my photos. I ended up creating a Flicker & Tumblr under the same name and then I got back into MLP. In order not to confuse things anymore, I decided to use the same name here since all my photos of MLP & MH have the Monsterelli nametag.

It also ended up becoming an alter ego for me to use on Facebook so that I could join MLP & MH stuff on there and I needed a full name haha - so my alter ego is Mopsi Monsterelli. - Mopsi was the name of one of my characters on the mmo Vanguard.

I used to own a rat named Zenna.  Her nickname was "Bug" or Zenna Bug."  When I joined eBay, she was hanging out in the hood of my sweater, so I used her name as my screenname.  When I joined the Arena, I used the same name to avoid confusion.  And it stuck  :)

I was a member of the square dancing group in Whitehorse, YT. The name of the team was the Sourdough Stompers. I really don't know why I picked it, I just thought it sounded unique and very-Yukonish. :) I also miss square dancing, it's a lot of fun.

Mine is really short: I was born in October and it's a month I really like, so I decided I would name myself "October" something. I thought of OctoberFall and OctoberCookie, then decided OctoberFlash sounded the best ^^

I used to ride a crotch rocket in a club full of Harley boys. They called me "The Rocketeer". :)

I have another online handle that I use a lot, but I didn't realize it had a very negative connotation attached to a vulgar TV show.

Mine is from a character I wrote short stories about as a kid. We kind of grew up together and evolved at the same directions and in the end she became an alterego which I thought suited on the web.

I used to work with a guy who called me pop girl as a joke. I was really into current fashion and the latest trends so he said I was the embodiment of pop culture for that particular year (1996). He was also in a ska band and gave me gave me a signed CD - inside the cover he wrote "To pop-girl of '96"

When I signed up for the Arena I just happened to have the CD sitting on my desk and there you go. :P

i happen to be an invader zim fan and i use horizongreen borrowed form the TSR hobbies dungeons and dragons choose your own adventure book series.  The book was revenge of the rainbow dragons i took the gemstone names horizon blue and storm green and added invader to it. Sense i have aspergers syndrome i kinda feel like an being from another world which i don't mind so i combined them and  poof that is me! So i now use it all over the net.

fingerpaints was chosen after the G3 pony fingerpaints, cause she's awesome & sorta suits me, even tho I have my own persona, I really like G3 fingerpaints and would love one in nice shape one day :D I didn't want a boring name, so had a think about which pony names would suit, nobody else had used fingerpaints so I stole it ^^

Name's Edward Mowinckel, got turned onto a band called Kaizer's Orchestra. They have a song called 'Dr. Mowinckel', I heard it and thought 'Oh my god it's like they wrote a song JUST FOR ME!', then I adopted the alias DoctorMowinckel.

Crows are my favourite birds, and I love music so I tend to mix the two together for my screen names. Crow + Judas Priest = Crowpriest, I thought it sounded kinda funky.

I made my name a looong time ago. I was trying to make a login for a chat room on a sailor moon website. I used parts of my two favorite fandoms to get Raye (sailor moon) + chu (pikachu). People almost always confuse my name with Raichu :P

Mine is just my Etsy shop name. Crimson & Clover, the oldies song, resonated with my sister and me, because I tend to always have hair in shades of red/pink/crimson and she tends to always have greens in her hair. It made sense, and it stuck! I'm very used to being called "Crimson" now<3

When I was a freshman in highschool (I'm 18 now and graduated) the whole anime club at my school (basically all my friends xD) did this thing that started out being for my birthday, called Cosmay. Every day of the month there was a different cosplay theme and on Kingdom Hearts day me and my girlfriend at the time both cosplayed as Axel. Since she's black and I'm short, she was Black Axel and I was Short Axel. ShortAxel was the name I used to sign up for dA not long after and its been my username on most sites.


On another site someone started calling me Taxel, and I really loved it (and was sick of ShortAxel). So now that's the username I use. :)

Its a play on my childhood nickname :) When I met my best friend we were discussing our unusual names and that led to nicknames. When I explained that my mum used to call me princess, he looked at me and snorted before he said "more like Princess Of Darkness"
Name stuck and I go by it everywhere these days :)

I've had this username since I joined DeviantART in 04 and it's stuck. Essentially the breakdown is: my name means light and I like stars, I like wolves/dogs and the z just looked cool.

My name came from when one of my friends pretty much forced me into getting a second Neopets account. We just named things around the room and took the name that wasn't already taken. She set the account up for me as I didn't have the Internet for some reason (think our computer broke?) and she thought fire extinguisher was spelt with a q. But the name kinda stuck =P it's never taken already, so it's useful!

Also last time I answered a post like this on a different forum, someone pointed out that it's like I've vanquished the fire as opposed to merely extinguishing it =P

BarBGirl was the first email address I ever had...my mother created an AOL account for me on hers, and she picked it because of my Barbie habit, lol.  After that ridiculous song came out, just "BarBGirl" was always taken when registering for things online, so I added the "1999" on the end.  It's the year I graduated high school ^_^

Anyway, I picked Mohawk because that's how I cut my hair in 2011 (and still do). I've been cutting my own hair for over a decade and gone through a variety of different styles, and when I did the hawk for the first time, I finally started to understand why so many people get attached to their hairstyles. It just feels right, like I'd found a missing piece of my identity somehow.

Plus, I've always liked user names that were just a single dictionary word, without numbers or weird spellings, but don't get the opportunity to do that very often. Mohawk wasn't taken yet. ;)

Buttersketch is a play on Butterscotch, my first ever pony. I've gone by Butterscotch for years, even though I wasn't part of the MLP fandom until around a year ago. When I joined here, I figured Butterscotch would be taken, and since I like to draw, I changed scotch to sketch.

Crumpet because she's one of my favorite ponies, and then my favorite Disney movie of all time is the Great Mouse Detective and the character Olivia tells the dog to "have a crumpet", and 452 is my internet handle I always stick to, it was randomly added to my aol name in the 90's because the name I wanted was taken.

Where did I come up with my username CadePony? Well, originally I was going to use TC as my username, as it's my nickname from my online moniker of Trans-Crazy. But the username was too short. So... I took the name Cade, which is a nickname I give to my favorite Transformers character Barricade, and slapped Pony to it. So... that's how I came to be called CadePony on MLP Arena.

Flickerswift was a name I used on transformer forums, as it sounded transformerish and fit my personality (I am finicky and obsessive). When I got into FiM I realized it worked well as a pony name too. Yay for Hasbro's similar toy naming policy.

Thanks, it's my favorite bookmark!  Funny enough, Zenna was a gigantic brat  XD  She was terrified of me when I got her (she and her sister were rescues and very under-socialized) at about a year old.  Her sister (Cosette) was the sweet one, but died inside my hoodie a few weeks after bringing them home, she came to me with a horrible respiratory infection and there wasn't anything the vets could do.  Zenna became really mopey, so I brought home a little baby to keep her company.

The baby (Lani) really brought Zenna out of her shell and after 5 or 6 months, she'd hang out happily in the hood of my sweater.  She hated being held for the most part, but she loved hoodies!  It wasn't until she started having health problems at the age of 3 that she started to appreciate being pet.  The last 2 months of her life, she became very sweet and snuggly.  I always admired her spirit though, even when she was a brat.  Spunky little thing  XD  Rescued from awful conditions, sister died, then she lived for 3 more years!

My nickname comes from two words, uni and inu. Uni means sleep in Finnish and Inu dog in Japanese.  When they are combined it turns into Uninu.

Moonstorm was the first pony I created. I couldn't use Moensli because my boyfriend (at that time) couldn't know I was into ponies.
Moon= I'm almost every night awake, so every time I take a couple of minutes to stare at the moon and stars.
storm =I love to be outside in storm weather, it gives me some sort of freedom XD
and thats how equestria was made.

I had a husky character named Cobalt when I was around 13/14... used it as my username once, it just stuck as my preferred alias ever since (finally one I could settle on!). Cobalt as a username was often taken however, leading to variations like Cobalte. Really simple, just shoved the first letter of my first name on the end, and it's short for a previous variation (Cobaltié).

Mine is the name I used to go by when playing in YuGiOh! trading card tournaments and groups. 'Kaiba' because he is my favourite YuGiOh character, 'Girl' because I am one (though older now) and the '007' is a James Bond reference my brother chose to add to it on one of my entry forms (I was mad at him at first but learnt to love it)

Surfstar was the pony I liked the best from the G3 line and I wanted a pony name when I got tired of being TAFSeashell (which I was for years and years - I joined the original MLPTP in 96). Everywhere else on the interwebs I go by Cyzzane though. It's a combination of names of my favorite characters from Final Fantasy 7 and 9.

Back in the day, when I was creating my first email address ever, I wanted to make is [email protected], but that was taken.  So, I thought, well, Psylocke uses Psychic Knives (she's an X-Men character, FYI), so "psyknife" came out of that.  It's just an online user handle that stuck with me early on.. so, I created the persona of Psy-Pony and rolled w/it :-)

See, that's awesome. I'm a sucker for strong-spirited-animal stories like that.

And I must lol, because when I got a baby rat to keep Shiver company since I couldn't give her as much time as I'd used to, Shiver never warmed up to her and got foaming jealous whenever I gave the baby attention. After a month or so I gave up and put them in separate cages. :/

Cindy was a grey kitten I had when I was about 4. I was the only person she liked, haha. We only had her for a year or two before she got ill, though, and I spent the rest of my childhood missing her.

But why I chose Sydney instead of Cindy is a little confusing to me, though. I suppose it has to do with one memory from a sleepover when I was 6 or so. We were all playing some stupid game and I had to make a wish, so I wished for Cindy back. There was a girl there named Sydney and they all thought I said her name instead of my cat's, then made fun of me a bit. I got upset at them but didn't want to tell them about Cindy, so I just pouted instead :'D Again, I have no idea why that silly little memory sprang up and became part of the username I eventually chose.

And...pie, just because this is a pony site, I thought of Pinkie Pie, and I felt Sydney alone would be too bare? I'm not so sure :P

Welllll...

Bee is actually a take on the Hebrew meaning of my name, Debra ( Deborah ). In Hebrew, it means, "Queen Bee". I had first heard about this in grade school, when my class did a fun thing on the meanings of our names.

It didn't hit home until I went to trade school, though. I was researching the meanings of names for my characters ( I wanted the names of two of my characters to match up with their personalities ). Then I became bored, looked up MY name in the book I was looking through, re-found out my name meant Queen Bee, and since I was looking to create a persona for myself anyway, I took on the whole bee theme.

My time in trade school just happened to be during my early anime fan phase as well, so I just HAD to have a Japanese pen name ( shoot me, please... ). I tried going with Mitsubachi, buuuuuuut... it didn't roll of the tongue well, and it wasn't fun.

So I went with Bee-chan instead. Why Bee-chan? Because I loved ( and still love ) P-CHAN from the anime and manga, "Ranma 1/2". I liked the pen name even more when I found out I was basically calling myself, "Little Bee", or, "Cute Bee".

However, since I am now out of that uber phase ( let's just say I'm in the sorta mature phase ), I myself have dropped the -chan part, but still allow friends and fans ( Oo... I have fans? ) to call me Bee-chan, and I still answer to it.

Bee is now my official nickname, though.

my story is a bit hard to tell but my best friend said i saw like a butterfly dont know why it stuck and even when she was in hospital she still called me butterfly.

Windsong came from misreading the pony of a similar name. There's a G1 and G3 pony named "Wingsong", but at a glance I thought it said "Windsong". I liked the idea of "Windsong" because it reminded me of a part on a level of Yoshi's Story for N64. And it's just a cool name. I ended up taking it and making up a persona (once I discovered that the real MLP wasn't named Windsong). Here's what she looks like (this adopt was made by badjuju86):

The baby (Lani) really brought Zenna out of her shell and after 5 or 6 months, she'd hang out happily in the hood of my sweater.  She hated being held for the most part, but she loved hoodies!  It wasn't until she started having health problems at the age of 3 that she started to appreciate being pet.  The last 2 months of her life, she became very sweet and snuggly.  I always admired her spirit though, even when she was a brat.  Spunky little thing  XD  Rescued from awful conditions, sister died, then she lived for 3 more years!

See, that's awesome. I'm a sucker for strong-spirited-animal stories like that.

And I must lol, because when I got a baby rat to keep Shiver company since I couldn't give her as much time as I'd used to, Shiver never warmed up to her and got foaming jealous whenever I gave the baby attention. After a month or so I gave up and put them in separate cages. :/

Zenna had incredible maternal instincts.  She adored babies  :)  She and Lani were inseperable!

When I was at pony camp over the summer (many summers actually) my nickname was "Ponytails."  It started out because my hair was always in a ponytail AND I was the best at briading the manes and tails of our horses and ponies.  I liked it, and it stuck.  When I was old enough to get email and go online I was surprised no one else seemed to use that name.  So, I kept it and have used it ever since.  It suits me still.  I did not get a persona pony designed for it till 3 years ago though, despite having the nickname for quite longer then that AND being on the pony-boards longer then that.

Last spring I was worried that one of my coworkers had found my blog, so I wanted to change the domain name.  My husband decided he would change his at the same time, and we tossed around names for a couple of days before I told him I was going to register coinoperatedboy.net for him, since we're both huge Amanda Palmer fan and she has a song called Coin Operated Boy.  He didn't want that very, but I discovered coinoperatedgirl.net was available, and decided to register it.  Then he wanted coinoperatedboy, so now we have matching blog names that are very much our style.  The nickname's stuck for a while and I like it a lot more than some of the other things I've used.

I'm obsessed with wild flowers and "weeds", because they always look so happy and random  :lol:

When I was three or four, I used to draw her over and over, played as her in pretend games, and often daydreamed about her. She remained with me to this day, hardly changed from when I first thought her up- of course, her name changed a million times since I could never think of the perfect name for her- it's a very important decision.

When I was 12, I was drawing a picture of the universe, and the name "Star Dragon" came up- something that I attached myself to immediately and began calling my character Star Dragon (it is a title, not a name, since I still can't decide the perfect name for her- like, "the" Star Dragon). Seven and a half years later, I am still calling her Star Dragon, and she still does not have a name.

So that is the story behind my character, of which my username is named after. ^.^

it was so much fun to read through these! 
i have several names at other forums and they all come about fairly randomly... but i think i tend to use dIGITS most often.  sort of from a variety of reasons...

1) i like the word
2) i have a love-hate relationship with numbers-- my father is a mathematician and my mother was also a math major and i suck at everything dealing with numbers... yet... i have this strange affinity towards them... "Pi" is among my favourite movies ;)
4) i used to sign my early online xangas with things like "musicmatchmath" "minusplusminusme" and one of my top 3 bands at the time was also "Your American Math"... oh and i also wrote this hilariously terrible rap about washing hands at the same time (during my first job) and the soap we used was "digits"...so dIGITS pretty much summed everything up.

so.. i've been dIGITS in various places since about 16.  <3

edit to add:
fun fact-- at the mlptp forum i'm Three_to_one which was another number related screen name (though that one also dealt with the heavier issue of overly-excessive weight loss/near anorexia i was dealing with in my angsty teen years)

My friends used to call me jaguar in school because I have always loved them, and was always talking about them. Then I was trying to fill out the information when it came to a log in and my husband said kisses as in he wanted a kiss and I just typed it in and hit send, and it stuck from there.

I've always tended to stick with one username across forums, instead of having a tailor-made name for each fandom. For many years I used "venusboi", since my friends would refer to me as "the love deity" (for many reasons). I've also always been a fan of mythology, especially Greco-Roman mythology, and associated myself with Eros, Aphrodite and Dionysus.

Anyway, shortly before joining the Arena, I decided I needed something a bit more up to date (I'm old enough where "boy" and "boi" are just stretching it), but still a nod to my old nickname. I have red hair, and decided on crimsondeity. Of course, that gets shortened to just "crimson" most of the time. Darn forum posters, not respecting my AWESOME powers! :P

I got mine from the first letter of my first name and my last name. That spells "kalanen", which means a little fish in Finnish. Combined with the fact that I am almost always surrounded by wires, cables and such it was natural to make the name as "Kaapelikala" which means "Cable Fish" in Finnish.

I make cakes, cookies, cupcakes, chocolates etc. in my spare time.  I picked buttercream because it's my favourite icing (fondant is pretty, and very trendy, but it doesn't taste good).  I guess it kind of describes the stuff I make.

Mine is simple, I was born in April (and my last name has to do with rocks LOL), it was also longer when we first joined a Pony board but got shortened when we came here and shorter again when my other half became legal age for her own account.  My other nick was already taken here, but I go by Rocket everywhere else that is not pony doms.

Gypsy is one of my favorite ponies!  And I am a horrible night owl!  Maybe even as far as to say a morning owl because its actually 5am right now and I havn't gone to bed yet! :P   When I say horrible I mean Horrible!!  There is a reason for it though.  My husband has a night job and I am a stay at home mom right now so we don't put the kids to bed until 12 or 1 am.  Our kids are 1 and 2 years old.  And I stay up late after that.  And on the days my hubby has off he stays up nearly all night so I stay up with him.  Make sense?  Or do you think I'm crazy?  Everyone asks "what are you going to do when the kids go to school?"  Obviously their schedules will be slowly adjusted to match.  Where eventually they will go to bed at like 8 pm.

I've been obsessed by foxes for years and consider them my spirit-animal.
It all started with the fox in the kids book "The Little Prince", hence my nickname Little Fox that I have used for the last 10 years or so. The story about the boy and the little fox is so beautiful and it always touches me even today, everytime I read it. I also love to have a nick that conjures up an image of a beautiful intelligent animal that is a bit "naughty".


So it defenitely has a deep meaning to me..

Well..
I got the sparkle bit from my ROBLOX name, sparklepop23. I added the r because.. I actually don't know. The "xx" bit because I'm very sweet IRL and 231 because it's my favourite number!
(also its my best friends birthdate.. 23/1/1995..)
A bit more about about the sparkler bit: I have a rabbit fursona called Cutz, and she has a pet lightning cat called Sparky. (:

Edit : I'll make it a bit clearer.
The "sparkle" in the first place was the fact that I used to have G3 Desert Rose(I still do, but not the big one), and she was one of the Sparkle Ponies from '04. I was going to be called sparklepop on ROBLOX but it was taken. Sparklerxx231 is my dA name and my YT name iirc. "pop" from my ROBLOX name was the fact when I signed up (2 years ago now) I was absolutely obsessed with bubbles. When I re-signed up for dA(because I lost my old one), "Sparklerpop" didn't sound right. So I changed it to Sparklerxx231 and it's my name almost everywhere (apart from on the TP I'm known as .cutz)
Edit: I recently got a name change.
The i bit is some thing I got off my friend when she called her bear character becky! and she added a upside down exclamation mark on the front and my other friend thought it was an i.
And sparkle because the same reason as earlier. She's actually the person who thought the ! was an i :good:

I'm really into the whole recycling/love mother nature thing and decided to make up my own Sailor Moon character with that in mind. Not terribly original but I had fun with it. Even made a Sailor Earth costume  :biggrin: I've been using Sailor Earth ever since on nearly all forums. My pony persona's symbol is actually part of Sailor Earth's brooch.

Since about 2005, my online alias Kodiak Sunset named after my horse. It was unique enough that no one had it so I just kept it. But as I got older, I started to feel like that just wasn't me anymore so when I joined Xbox live back in August of 2010, I chose to be PhyrePhy. Eventually, a friend and I changed our Halo tags to Toki and Doki. ;) but we had a falling out. However, my other friends just adopted me as Toki because we all felt it was more me. Then, one of them started referring to me as his Toki Bear and it just hit me. That was it. I had found my new online identity and thus, here I am today!

Hmmm i used to be in pageants leading into the miss america pageant. I aged out never took my state title. I lurked this site forever. Saw a mrs. America program and started doing pageants again. I have until i am 50 to win my state. It was after i picked my name when i realized it was a G3 pony name:)

I use my user name every where. On Ebay, Etsy, the TP, and now here. Whiskerz was my cat. She just past away last Easter weekend at 19yrs old. :( I changed the s to a z just because I like it and it's different. The 85 is the year I was born.

I guess to summarize (again), my original nickname is "Timer Rabbit". When I want to make my Ponysona, I wanted to make my own based on my name. Originally the name "Timer Rabbit" came from a mix of Timer (http://www.konami.jp/bemani/popn/music16/mc/04/cyberdigi.html) from Pop'n Music and Rodger Rabbit.

Anyway, back to origins of Timepiece. A graphic artist and fellow BEMANI fanatic over at Z-i-V named "Lord Toon" created these "User Song Title" banners, creating mock-graphics based on the DDR graphics, except original in some way. He made one for me based on my "Timer Rabbit" nickname.

"Timepiece Leopridae".

Those two words have been used on my other projects (like "Leopridae Magia") since I love these fancy words. When I created my ponysona, I knew I just have to use "Timepiece".

And so... She was born, as well have to use this name for a MLP-related forum. Also, you are free to call me "Timer" instead. I am attached to that name since 2006 because it's gender neutral... :V Timepiece too I guess.

These threads are always fun.
Mine has multiple parts and meanings, so... here we go ^w^
There is a DDR song called "Speed over Beethoven" (to the tune of Fur Elise) that has the line, "While my piano gently weeps, listen to Beethoven". I adore classical music and I always thought that line brought up lovely imagery.
Then, there was a band I loved (and still do) where the pianist\vocalist and the drummer were really close friends, and the drummer died. (They did a beautiful piano-drum duet together) so there is more "weeping piano" imagery.
The piano is my favorite instrument and I do play.
The term "weeping" is important too. I am not a generally sad person, but it sounds lovely. A piano can be so expressive. It can be happy or silly or melancholy or angry. Weeping is so deep and touching. It is not sad or crying or whiney. When you weep, it is a big deal, either out of sorrow or joy. Just think of a piece of music for the piano that is just so beautiful and moving that you feel like weeping. (yay more imagery)
Also, it feels artistic, mature, and meaningful to me :D
So when I got my first email address, Mom asked what I wanted it to be, and she would not let me use "eviler-than-you" so I picked weepingpiano.
Also, it is never taken, so I use it everywhere ^^

I just named myself after my favourite MLP character.  Boring, huh?

Well, there is a bit more to it than that...

When I was a kid and didn't have access to the internet, I would go pony hunting at car boot sales/charity shops etc., but I especially wanted to find "The Three Favourites" (Truly, Lancer and Lofty, who I loved in the TV show).  Alas, it was not to be, as Truly and Lofty were never sold in the UK and Lancer didn't exist as anything but a cartoon character.  I got Lofty almost as soon as I started buying online in 2005, and Truly at Ponycon that year.  I joined the online pony community soon after that Ponycon when I was still desperately hoping information would show up about the three Tales boys.  By that point, I had almost accepted that Lancer would never be a part of my herd, so I chose the name as a kind of tribute to a childhood dream could never be realised. :(

Well, that and I had a serious crush on Lancer's voice actor... :blush:

When I was in college, I worked at the dining hall, and every year the student workers would have an overnight campout.  One year, the student managers decided to come up with "indian" names for everyone, and the one they gave me was Pensive Pine (since I was pretty quiet most of the time).  I liked the sound of it, and so I started using it as my online handle in various places, including here.

Behemoth is the name of a blackened death metal band that i love :3 its also the name of a mythological creature, although i only chose this name because of the band, lol.

i was actually considering choosing the name Leviathan too, but being the idiot that i am, i didn't know how to spell "leviathan" at the time, so i just went with Behemoth.

When my husband's mother remarried, his stepdad adopted him and his mom told him if he was changing his last name, he could choose a new middle name if he wanted.  The fact that he couldn't spell Lamborghini Countache when he was about 11 is the only reason it's not his middle name.
