I've slowly been unloading some of my MH collection on Ebay. Most of my interactions have been very positive, but this last batch has had two NPB. The one contacted me and asked that I cancel the auction because she didn't want to pay the shipping. But I've just close the second, with no response from the winning bidder.

The bidder's Ebay account is 1120powers. Looking at their feedback, they have some spotty history; several sellers have given a false-positive, pointing out that they never paid after winning and did not respond to messages. I won't be leaving a false positive (since it's against the TOS), but I HIGHLY recommend that any doll seller block this bidder to avoid a potential NPB situation.

I'm with Galactica; if I'm doing someone a favor, hunting an exclusive/htf item and selling it at cost, I expect them to pay as a gift. Usually when I've done this, it's meant an extra trip somewhere (not to mention a trip to the PO to ship it) and I think it's perfectly fair to not be charged PP fees when I'm doing someone a favor.

The only other time I ask that payment be sent as a gift is when the buyer has zero feedback, and only here or other forums. I've been around for a bit, and my Ebay/forum cred is perfect. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that a brand-new person with no reputation give me the benefit of the doubt. I know that when I first started buying on the forums, I typically paid via gift (from established sellers). I've never had a problem, although I would never pressure a new buyer to use the gift option if they weren't comfortable with it.

I recently had a NPB on a MH auction. The winning bidder was international (Brazil). After six days of no communication or payment (I did send a couple invoices and a message), I opened a NPB on them. That got their attention, and they messaged me stating that the cost of shipping was too high compared to the cost of the item, and that they no longer wanted the item. Now, I clearly stated in the auction that while I did accept international bidders, the cost of shipping might be high and to please message me if they wanted to verify the shipping to their country (since sometimes the automated Ebay shipping thing is incorrect).

I would have had no problem had they bid, then realized the cost and contacted me. But since they just decided to ignore me until Ebay got involved, I will be blocking them from all future auctions of mine. They have 100% positive feedback (with 135 transactions), so they may slip underneath the radar. And we all know Ebay rarely penalizes bad buyers/time wasters.

Been cutting back on my collecting, but I think I need that DC Rochelle. I adore her makeup! And I need to replace my Gil. I'll also need to get Heath from the double pack, although whether or not I keep Abbey will be determined once I have the set in hand.

since they're different shades of white girl too.

 :lmao:

I really hope we see a different face mold from the protos, which is thnakfully pretty likely. Mattel has a history of using stand in body parts for display models. Ie. Scarah with frankie's head at SDCC

I don't want to sound rude, Doom, but they have all shades of white covered in that line o,o
Pale, tanned, mediterranean type, redhead, etc.
Needs more diversity beyond "different white girls" ;)

I sooo hope they'll have different face molds.
Someone pointed out that the prototypes looked a lot like Lala!

I think she meant that in the art, the characters have different shades of white skin; so she hopes that this will be reflected in the dolls as well, instead of just eye/hair color making them unique from each other.

I just saw one (MH Cupid) at TRU about a week ago- I think they are still be sold.  I recall that there were a million on amazon at some point but they seem to have hiked in price since that time.

I really hope the Ever After doll has actual feathered wings- but I am preparing myself for plastic.

I actually always thought that the daughter of Cupid would be a monster with bone wings-  I mean, why bones exactly?  Cupid certainly doesn't have bone wings. Who exactly was her mother ?

They gave her some more backstory. Apparently, she was left on Cupid's doorstep as a baby and he adopted her. One of the characters (Ghoulia, I believe) thinks she might be a Bone Elemental.  I am curious to see how she fits into EAH; will she actually come from the MH "dimension" and just be given a new look because of the world she inhabits? Or will her backstory change and be presented as a new character in the EAH storyline?

« on: May 31, 2013, 02:56:11 PM »
Clearing out a few more dolls from my collection. In most cases, priced below current (sold) Ebay prices for quicker sales. Open to REASONABLE offers. Prices do not include shipping. Since I'm offering these at a slightly lower rate than current sold Ebay prices, I'm not doing holds at this time.

Holt: Sold.

GB Ghoulia- Sold

DotD Lagoona-$55. In excellent loose condition, mohawk still intact. It's actually nicer than new out of the box, because I took a little water and re-gelled it using the excess goo in her hair. Comes complete (minus stand, and collector card)

SS Clawdeen, Cleo and Frankie (color version): $18 each. In excellent loose condition. They come with complete jewelry, clothes and shoes (no stands)

SS Lagoona, Abbey, Draculaura and Ghoulia: $8 for Lagoona, $10 each for the others. In excellent loose condition. Lagoona is missing her earrings and bracelet; also, while most dolls from this wave still had the elastic stringing, this Lagoona is particularly floppy. This is why her price is a bit lower than the other three. The other three come complete with all accessories and outfits (no stands)

Quick question about frizzy, flyaway hair.     What's the best thing to use on the doll hair to help smooth it down?

One of my friends uses Garnier Sleek and Shine Anti-Frizz serum. She has impeccable dolly hair, so while I haven't used it, I trust her judgement.

Handmade clothes I can understand. But I was talking more about clothes from the dolls. $15-$17 for an outfit for a doll that cost $20? That seems really expensive to me.

And why are a pair of shoes $10 without shipping?

A lot of people are willing to spend $15 on an outfit they can use on several dolls as opposed to spending $20-$30 on the outfit and doll. If you aren't wanting the doll, it's a savings. And a lot of items are unique and "retired". So those will fetch a higher price, because they aren't available anymore.

Since she's still available at retail, and she's damaged, I'd say maybe $10? I might suggest listing her and her clothing separately; you could probably get $10-$12 for the outfit, and then sell her nude as bait. Knee joints aren't an easy fix, so it might be a little harder to sell her complete. Good luck on your sales :)

I haven't read any of the diaries yet. I just haven't gotten around to it I guess. So Jinafire and Skelita are being promoted heavily? How does this show? Other than the webisodes I mean? Could it be that we will get more of them at some point?

Last year's SDCC had a MH panel; their designers spoke in detail about their creation, and cultural inspirations. Both characters have recently had a webisode introducing them to the school them, and both of them have made an appearance in the latest book. There's also the MH Tumblr (The Gory Gazette), which has done "features" on them.

All of these lead me to believe that Mattel and the MH design team mean for them to be focus characters. With Cupid, everything about her was more of an afterthought; I've heard from a reliable source that she wasn't even meant to be a doll when she was conceived for the "Fright On" special. But the designers really liked her and jumped at the opportunity to release her as an exclusive. The fact that she's the only non-werecat to share a headmold with another character (Ghoulia) and that originally her monster heritage was vague (they've since expanded on it, showing that she is not biologically the daughter of Eros, she's a bone elemental he adopted) strengthens my opinion that she wasn't meant to be a regular character.

Obviously, I don't know whether we'll get more dolls of them, but they have had a lot of focus, and they chose designers for them who shared their heritage. Even if they weren't originally intended to become regular additions (and I believe they were), they've had a wide enough appeal to both adults and kids for Mattel to release more versions of them :)

I'd be shocked if we didn't get signature versions of Jin and Skelita at some point, with their pets. They were both pictured, and mentioned in the sketch books. Personally, I don't consider the sketch books to be the same as the diaries; they're more like the Classroom Survival Guides that came with the Classroom dolls.

For me, a signature release has to include a pet and a diary. Cupid has been the only exception so far, but she was different; she was an exclusive originally released for a specialty line. Why they decided to re-release her as a non-exclusive (and with a diary) I don't know. And they do "explain" her not having a pet in her original bio; she says she couldn't choose just one. Anyway, Jin and Skelita are general release dolls, not exclusives. And they seem to be getting heavy promotion, whereas Cupid was meant to be a one-shot character. They've done a little more with her recently, but she didn't have any appearances in the webisodes until recently. Of course, I could be totally off-base :P

Oh, and for anyone that hasn't read the diaries, I highly recommend them. They're probably my favorite canon. And I feel like they flesh out the characters better than any of the other canons.

The Dollhouse / Re: Do Kids Like Monster High?
« on: April 05, 2013, 09:51:47 AM »
Between browsing toy aisles for my own collection, as well as previously working at a store that sold MH, I can safely say that children do like MH. I've even gotten into conversations with moms who are shopping (usually for their daughters) about the franchise; in general I find that most parents are okay with the line, even if they don't understand why their child would be into it. Of course, you also have the parents who don't like fashion dolls, or who don't like the concept of monsters; but I rarely hear a parent actually disparage the line. While I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment, I can respect a parent's decision to not let their child play with them.

But there also a ton of parents (including dads!) who think they're pretty neat and appreciate the level of detail. I know a lot of parents really like the "be unique, be yourself" aspect of the franchise. Several parents have commented that while the dolls might wear things they wouldn't let their kids wear, they feel that the focus isn't necessarily all about the image. One mom told me she loved the fact that Frankie was into sewing, and that it had inspired her daughter to become more interested in it herself. I had a father tell me that he thought it was cool that the dolls were so poseable and came with so many fun little items.

I think one of the most interesting aspects of the line is how it manages to intrigue a wide variety of ages and genders. Even though it's rare for me to see a little boy actually buying them, several parents have mentioned how their sons play with their sister's MH dolls. I know that even my bff's nephew will engage in conversation about the characters and watch the webisodes with his sister.

Lala's pink bat ones are her DDG ones:) I personally don't mind recasts esp since some of the shoes came on exclusives originally (and it's a good way to save money on Mattel's part) but I figured they would include at least *one* original pair! Skipping out on painting details was being flat out lazy as well

Ah! The DDG 3-pack is one of the few sets I haven't had. Thanks, didn't realize that :)

I'm guessing the I <3 Shoes line will be exclusive, like the I <3 Fashion line. The exclusives are where they tend to use recast/no paint. Personally, I don't mind. I'm more bugged by Catrine and the upcoming Catty than I am about these shoes :P
