fixing brush n grow mechanism?

i've searched the forum and some other sites but i can't seem to find a tutorial for fixing a brush n grow pony's mechanism, is it possible?
my friend gave me one of her childhood ponies yesterday and i want to restore it :)

It really depends...
The example one I have the mechanism was totally worn out. I couldn't get her head to twist the tail back into her body even with having the ribbon in the mechanism to add length (and turning her head all the way around and round). However I did give her tail back the original length and cleaned up the rust.

It's still nice to know how to take them apart and put them back together properly. I used krazy glue to put the circle/bead piece back on top... she stays together just fine...

thanks mlp4me! i think i'm definitely going to give it a try, seeing as it's already not working, i don't think i can make it any worse :P
pony is currently having a conditioner session so tomorrow when the hair is dry and smooth i think i'll be pulling her head off haha
