Another hair styling question
« on: March 04, 2012, 05:21:47 AM »
Here is the scenario:

Your pony has a full body repaint and has been sealed in mod podge, and she is slated to have long, curly hair. Elegant curls that drape gently. You know that the hair is in there rather stiffly, so something will need to be done to the roots.

What do you do?

"I don't seal it in Mod Podge, I use (insert name here) and it works fine with boil perms" is a perfectly valid answer. Just.. you know.. insert the name so that I know better next time.

Thank you for your help :)

I've gotten ponies that were sealed with testors dullcote and have done boil perms on them with no problems.

I usually use testors dullcote too - but you should be able to pull off the curls with what you currently have it sealed with. What problem are you running into? Just the roots being difficult?

Where in the craft store would I find testors dullcote? Is it in a jar? A spray?

The only problem I am having is that hot water melts the mod podge and I'm scared the hair will stick to it badly if I perm it.

Testor's is by the model/hobby section at hobby lobby and michaels. It is a spray can.

Ok, so I have boil permed a pony who had been sealed with mod podge.  This girl:

I wrapped her hair around the straws and secured the ends with paper towels and tiny rubber bands.   Then I put one rubber band around the whole hair to keep it together and CAREFULLY poured boiling water over only the hair.  I completely avoided the head.  Then I just stuck a little plastic baggie between the hair and the body while it dried to make sure it didn't touch the paint.  I left the straws in for a week and the curls came out perfectly.

i have previously used modpodge exclusively for sealing and altho the glue turned white and got sticky once everything dried ti was fine. clear as a bell and yeh i had to pull the hair out of it while it was wet but even if you have a spot of clear modpodge in the hair i don't think anyone will notice because i doubt anyone iwll brush out the straw curls
