Pony Corral / Re: Is this mold?!
« on: July 18, 2014, 01:59:07 PM »
Of course ponies can get moldy. Sure, the vinyl is non-organic and the mold is not literally living off the vinyl. But the vinyl is porous and organic matter can get on and in it, and the mold can grow on that.

Ponies can get mold the same way your shower can get mold. And similarly, the mold can be removed.

Pony Corral / Re: Sun-Damaged G1 Playsets - any tips?
« on: July 18, 2014, 08:54:45 AM »
What kind of damage are we talking? Yellowing of the plastic, or fading of the stickers? Not sure much can be done for the latter, other than printing new stickers. Hydrogen peroxide can certainly help yellowed plastic, though - I have used it successfully both on ponies and on hard plastic accessories (never personally on a whole playset, but the material is the same as the accessories). I have heard that peroxide treatment can make the plastic more brittle, but that hasn't been my personal experience (though any plastic that is 30 years old is a bit brittle anyway). But I know H202 is corrosive, so I have just always checked mine 1-2 times per day and made sure to wash off the peroxide as soon as it looks acceptable.

I got all my tips from this lovely page: http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/accessories.html (she has some playset stickers too!)

Wanted! / Re: Seeking **PHOTOS** of Whinny Winks Inn Stickers

I'll send them to your gmail. I hope I can get adequate photos for you - please let me know if any of them need to be retaken and I will do so. I am going to the MLP Fair in Nashville, though, so I won't be able to retake any til Tuesday. And I am not in a rush to replace these stickers on my own set, so please take your time.

Also, curious on your thoughts of submitting them to the playset stickers section on MLP Restoration Project - they have some Petite Pony ones, but not the Whinny Winks Inn (because I've looked). Of course, that is up to you! Just a suggestion, since I work in software, I am very into open-sourcing things. :)

I have one! I can take pictures tonight. My stickers are a bit damaged from time (I've had it since I bought it in stores), so if you make replica stickers, would you send me the files to print myself, as well? This is actually my photo: http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Whinny_Winks_Inn

I currently work as a vet assistant in a small vet clinic :) I will be starting my second year in veterinary technician school this fall :D I also have a bachelors in animal science. I love what I do and can't wait to be more involved in saving animals :)

I used to be a tech too! Unlicensed, though. I loved it, but the stress (I worked emergency/critical care and exotics) and the terrible pay forced me out. Now I am a front-end web developer and I love it.

Of course I don't believe in these things (or anything supernatural/religious), but I still certainly enjoy reading speculative fiction.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony Hair Help!!

Haven't done this myself, but I know you can use a real iron (like for clothes), and those usually have low settings for synthetic fabrics so they don't suffer the same fate as your practice pony's hair.

Pony Corral / Re: Rerooting eyelashes?
« on: May 27, 2014, 04:14:48 PM »
They are a bit of a pain to reroot as the holes for the eyelashes are tricky. Have you already got one without eye lashes, I take it?

I think the eyelashes are probably kanekalon rather than traditional nylon - if you reroot them with nylon you may struggle to get them as thick and curly as the original [although thats maybe not a bad thing :P] As you are rerooting with a thinner hair, I would just make sure to reroot with hanks which look too thick for the hole as you will need to get a good cross over to ensure it looks natural. There are a couple of good Sindy and Barbie eye lash tutorials about which will probably help you out. I am sure I have one in my favourites if you need it.

Thanks! Yes, I have one without eyelashes. I had her as a child, and she is otherwise in perfect condition. But at the time (and maybe a little still now), those eyelashes creeped me out, so I cut them off!
